When I first got my apollo, I had some frustrations and had not realized how strictly integrated everything was, and I was kinda pissed. But the more involved I get, and the more I use the software, the more I watch these Office Hours.... Y'all have so much integrity. And so much love goes into everything you do. I know that we're all guilty of asking a lot in these chats, kind of flippantly, but I just wanted to say, as a full fledged convert: thank you so much. Y'all are my favorite pro audio company out there, next to Roswell Microphones. These office hours are such a highlight to my week!
i can completely echo the above sentiment... but after having moved to the mac ecosystem first and uad next, its not just about being “locked in” .. its about things working the way it should with least bit of tinkering from my side. people who like the excitement tinkering , more power to them. i just want to switch it on and make music.. there is a price to pay and it will be in cost as well as lack of compatibility across systems.. but too many choices can kill creativity.. hence waiting for the neve console as i have mainly neve plugins :)
this whole concept is truly mindblowing. truly revolutionary, guys. great work. this is truly becoming an integrated SYSTEM with luna, apollo and the plugins. just so impressed.
I have been using UA Apollo units for quite sometime in my studio and it has truly helped me take a step forward at the tracking stage using the Unison technology. There may be arguments that it is not exactly the same experience as using an analog outboard gear and that could be true. But for many, this is a game changer in the digital realm and I am extremely thrilled to see the steps UA is taking to turn LUNA into a true recording system. Looking forward to the Neve console emulation to come out. This would be epic.
An AMS Neve DFC version would essentially turn Luna into Skywalker Sound. Since nothing is “modeled” and it’s a direct port of the exact same digital console... Everyone who works on film or video could use Luna exclusively for those projects, especially with the Cedar plugin they just released. If publicized properly, perhaps along with some robust video features it could constitute a sea-change in professional use with thousands more Apollos sold.
Love ❤️ Luna 🌝 and all its stars ✨; This is the future worthy of the phrase “Analog Sound and Digital Ears”; it’s an Universal Audio vision into the Galaxies. Thank you for the tools and special thanks to Apple for paving the way! Am on Mac OS 12 Monterey and all is well except Marshall Plexi Classic GUI not showing.
Ask Apple to include you ! M3 iPad plus desktop. Could the processing be shared ? Sliders and remote operations ? Flash Based Updates have been used for years !
How is the gain flow structured when audio clip is inserted on audio track? Utility -> audio clip -> tape -> console emulation? Or audio clip -> utility -> tape -> console emulation.
I'm still confused about how the actual summing is done in LUNA (I have sent a question to UAD about it). Maybe it was answered in this video but is the summing at the end done by first adding all the tracks digitally and then adding an analog emulation after on the 2-bus / main/master track? My guess is that's a huge difference compared to actually emulating the summing circuits of all the tracks. Lots of nonlinearities in the analog circuits for summing all the tracks together into a single stereo track. Something that cannot be done in an ordinary DAW no matter what plugins are used since in those DAWs all the tracks are first summed digitally before going into the mastering chain.
@@UniversalAudio I'm still unclear about the last stage summing. Are the individual tracks summed digitally and then analog emulation after that? That's different than actually emulating the analog circuits summing the signals from all the tracks which involves a lot of nonlinearities. So for example putting an analog emulation plugin on the master chain in an ordinary DAW and having analog emulation plugins on all the tracks still involves the linear digital summing.
LOL basically saying "buying this means you don't need to use all the other UA plugins you bought that take up your DSP". A common theme from UA when discussing the fabulous merits of their latest releases. When they finally release a version of LUNA that you can use hardware inserts to use all your expensive UA hardware that you spent all that money on like the 1176, 6176, LA2A etc., you'll hear them trotting out, "Now you can use hardware inserts with delay compensation, like a proper DAW and not have to use our plugins, that sound a bit like the hardware and sometimes, just not at all. Oh no! Does not compute, ERROR ERROR, CONFLICT, HARDWARE SALES/ SOFTWARE SALES CONFLICT!, SELF DESTRUCT!"
I guess it depends on how you choose to interpret things. In a real studio with a real console there are still insert points so you aren’t stuck mixing with only what your board offers. Here’s a similar scenario where now you don’t have to eat up dsp having an api channel strip on your session but still get the benefits of the UAD plugins, the you still have the option of using your dsp based plugins. Since a lot of people who use UAD use as much UAD as they can this is a game changer as you now can use api without burning up dsp on it so you can run more UAD plugins in your sessions, ad this up with the tape extensions moving to native processing, Luna allows you to more UAD plugins than you could in other daws.
Not the full end to end version inside LUNA like we just released for API. We do have Neve and SSl Channel Strips, and yes you can mix and match those as you like.

Thanks guys! Good in-depth discussion. Think I'll wait for the SSL and Neve versions 😁
I was thiking in the same , What About SSL Version . Can be great product to have in our arsenal

Once a controller gets integrated (even if it's Softube Console 1), it will be perfect.
This console is a beauty and so much joy to work with. Like a dream come true
The console plugin is AMAZING!! It really makes the workflow so much quicker, sounds good, AND looks awesome!!
Looking forward to the Neve console....>_> (I'll be saving my pennies)

1000 x YES
Totally but they'd have to make the Pye compressor first.
👍🏻
🎉🎉
a helios and a trident a range and i'll never go back to the analog world.
Great video, thank you. I was thinking, what about a chandler/abbey road luna console emulation? Now, that would be something very special!
Are you guys working on a Neve version of this? SSL? Trident? Chandler?
Respect to the ua Luna team! Loving this daw so far!
That thing sounds so good... But I'm waiting on the Neve one though 😁
The new api preamp was a instant buy. I love the new eq on it
💪🏻
Ironically, there is a lot of rumble in the audio of this video ;) Love the API!
starts at 10:15
If I already subscribe to Spark, do I need to also buy the A800 non-native plugin for it to integrate with LUNA?
Great Video. Super Informative.
👍🏻
Can you only use the NEVE Summing with an apollo? I have the 30 days free but it will not let me buy it without an apollo...
Hei:) I wanted to ask if Universal Audio does things like sponsorships?
I am so excited about making music in a few month
👍🏻
UA still ignores PC based customers and not offering Luna for us. I guess we will continue to use our favorite DAW that supports us
yesterday i found out that you can scroll console, tape and monitor controls when using „alt + mousewheel“
regarding C-suit
tell me when you apply a good discount and I'm in
:D
Does anyone know what resolution size you need in a monitor to get the window to fit that much information?

Is there any DSP Limits using this ? I have the Apollo Solo, so I don’t have a lot of DSP.
Yes, all live inputs still need to fit on that 1 chip. But on playback, it's all CPU!
I also own an Arrow and using both inputs tracking while playing back the session is not an issue; Arrow is a thunderbolt 3. So no issues there.
How is the gain flow structured when audio clip is inserted on audio track? Utility -> audio clip -> tape -> console emulation? Or audio clip -> utility -> tape -> console emulation.
Signal always starts with the audio.
@@UniversalAudio Thank you!
You're welcome!
why there is no windows platform?
can you guys add the c-suite to the sale? ;)
I hate that I own all the individual plugins and I still have to pay 192€ as an “offer” to get this integrated into Luna. Doesn’t make any sense.
I hope the unison ring isnt related to the xbox ring of death

Summing occurs at the bus and 2 mix stages. Combined with using individual channelstrips on tracks, you get a full console emulation.
@@UniversalAudio I'm still unclear about the last stage summing. Are the individual tracks summed digitally and then analog emulation after that? That's different than actually emulating the analog circuits summing the signals from all the tracks which involves a lot of nonlinearities. We've modeled the act of summing all the separate signals together.
@@UniversalAudio Neat! That's an interesting advantage over other DAWs.
It also includes the pan laws and fader tapers which is why it's not available in other DAWs.

So far we just have API Vision, but as we add more, yes you'll be able to mix and match.
