hey man just wanna say i had about 2 days to change my clutch to be able to get to work monday and you made it possible! i would have had to trial and error figure every little thing out if it weren’t for you. so thank you very much
Mine has been a nightmare, used the 24m, no budge. 15/16 no budge. Used a torch and vice & grips still no budge. Now I have a mangled fill bolt. Not sure what to do from here
@@Andres-300 I had the same type of issue on my s13 fill plug. I ended up having to use a pipe wrench like what plumbers use since it bites into it more. I went and got one from harbor freight for cheap. I think I still had to put a pipe on the end of the handle but it worked out nicely
For me the car was a daily driver so I didn't go with Anything fancy. Just the Synchromesh that was available at the local parts stor. I run royal purple in my Skyline and it's a bit thin. The transmission feels a bit notchy with it.
Thanks for the video man, really helpful! Quick question for you though... I believe my issue right now is that I have too much fluid in the transmission, so that's why I'm going to flush and refill. How will I know if it's too much fluid when I'm refilling? I know you said you used just under 3 quarts, which is a helpful starting point, but I don't want to overfill it again. Is there a way to check it? Background on my issue: (automatic transmission) Car seems to shift fine, but when I get on it, it doesn't seem to have much power. It downshifts and the RPM's go up, but it doesn't seem to add any power to the car. I cleaned the MAF, throttle body and replaced the air filter this morning. Car seems slightly better, but still not a lot of power when it downshifts. I live up a pretty steep hill and this is where its really noticeable. Going up the hill the car struggles, even when I apply more pedal (forcing it to downshift). I checked the transmission dipstick after driving for 20-30 minutes and it's about 1" too high on the dipstick, which is why I'm thinking that it's having this issue from being too full and planning to drain/refill. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
+Marc Ochoa The automatic will be different. If it shows too high on the dipstick on level ground then it likely is overfilled. The auto takes 2.5 on a drain and fill. It kind of sounds like the trans may be slipping from your description. (hard to know for sure without actually seeing the car/driving it though) I would start with a basic drain and fill with Toyota type IV ATF.
So yesterday i attempted to drain my 5 speed is300 and started to break loose the 24mm drain plug and saw that it was tight when loosening. I might have a feeling sometime had cross threaded it. What should i do guys. And special kits out there that someone knows out there
If it has not been removed in a long time it may feel hard/tight the whole way out. Also, sometimes they have thread locker on them. I doubt it was cross threaded but you can get kits to repair threads.
Hey man does your transmission warm up where the trans is in the interior? when driving around? Ive driven other cars and my trans warm up the interior alot , just wondering if it happens to you to
Built For The Streets BFTS It's funny how you mention that. My 04 IS has similiar symptons to yours as well. It does get hot around the shifter and transmission tunnel area. All that heat is rising up that region for some reason 🤔. It's probably because of how the headers and downpipes are routed.
Built For The Streets BFTS yes man same problem here I have an 03 manual lsd trans are we just low on fluid or is it cuz I took my splash guards out so I have free look into the trans thru shifter
I saw your video on checking the clutch. You poured the gear oil into the top of the transmission (where the shift knob is seated). Can you refill it that way?
Yes, it can be refilled there. It does drain a bit slower but you can do it from there. I would just pull the fill plug and fill from the top until it starts overflowing.

@@DIYAUTOCAR I came back to the car a day later, gave it one last final ugga dugga and she finally broke loose! I was so happy
@@Andres-300 awesome man. Glad it worked out
Debating on going OEM or Royal Purple 75w-90. Which is better for aftermarket performance clutch and lightened flywheel?

Two hundred and SIXTY THOUSAND MILES?! Dayum
peculiarmadman haha, yeah. It runs great still. I do need to do some suspension work soon though.

I have an Automatic IS300. Is this a different excercise to change the ATF? Can't find a video on RUclips if there is. Many thanks.
It's quite different on an automatic.
I’m scared to change mine lol. It’s never been changed so I think I’m gonna leave it alone
Just go for it, you'll be fine.

I don't recall this car ever doing that. I sold it a while back though. I recently picked up another and I'll have to see if I have that issue.
What is the oem fluid for is 300 automatic?

@@DIYAUTOCAR Thanks. Your video on changing the clutch on is300 was very helpful. You saved me thousands of dollars changing the clutch on my is300.
Good to hear. I'm glad that it was helpful.
How do you know when to do transmission fluid change? How many miles?
Beeastman123 every 30k
Depends, check service manual for your specific vehicle.
Do I have to use a pump to put the new fluid in? Or can I pour it in through the dipstick?
This is a manual transmission, so there is no dipstick. On the Automatics you should be able to do it through the dipstick.
Is that the ra62 transmission?
No, it's a W55. The ra62 I believe came in the IS250.
