i feel HUGE lack of 'LOVE' button beween LIKE and DISLIKE. Although i am more Commodore fan, i can tell whether something is good or not. Definetely this implementation of Doom as well as its music completely ROCKS
I was going to say this looks like crap, but then I looked at the hardware specs and couldn't figure out how they pulled off as much as they did. I wouldn't want to play it myself, Brutal Doom has spoiled me, but as far as the ZX Spectrum goes this is friggin' awesome.
***** Smaller display = easier job. Not even to speak of the San Disk's 80MHz 32bit CPU va, the Spectrum's 3,5MHz 8bit CPU! That's about 90times the performance on the Zips's side, while still only considering CPU. So what's awesome?
***** Sandisk Clip Zip (and almost every other MP3/MP4 player with color screen) is a lot more powerful than the Spectrum: they use to mount a 60 to 100 MHz 32-bit ARM CPU rated at 60 to 100 MIPS, while the Spectrum uses a 3.5 MHz 8-bit Z80, capable of up to *one* MIPS. Also, the screen resolution for the Spectrum is much higher (256 by 192), so it has to paint five times more pixels every frame. That's why this is really awesome :-) .
As someone who played doom on a 386sx16mhz laptop, orange monochrome plasma screen, dooms screen reduced to minimum postage stamp size, double pixel size setting...... I gotta say this looks atleast as playable as what I put hours into at 11 years of age.... Well done.
The 128K came with a new 3-channel sound chip that is similar to the C64 SID sound. That's why. The normal 48k had only a single channel that produced chirps and bleeps mostly.
Really... I don't know why I put the descriptions here if nobody reads them. Check out this thread (you can get the games from there) and delete spaces " worldofspectrum . org / forums /? show thread . php ? t = 25860 " And load it on your own ZX128K.
No, very first techno was created at the beginning 90's and game is from 1996. Some composers tried to make such soundtrack for video game but only on Amiga it sounded good back then. Good example is Project X and Stardust soundtrack.
I always am inspired by the ingenuity of coders in situations like this, some people can make hardware do backflips if the will is there, a way can often be found, things that to some extent seem when suggested an impossible idea on such a platform. long live the coder.
This is an amezing port with lot's of details qnd that tune is freaking awesome,it even remembers those killed zombies you have shooted down, even the gba version does not do that. This is a mind blowing achievement, only problem might be that it will overheat & meltdown your beloved zx spectrum because of being overpushed to it's ultimate limit.
People better be glad this was able to work on the ZX Spectrum..... It looks amazing for it, not much color bleeding which surprises me and some people, but only the gun has it. I bet the controls were BUTCHERED due to how he is moving.
absolutely amazing, people just dont realize how capable this machine really was
true
The enemies actually turn around unlike the SNES version.
I think they also turn around in the original PC version and ports made since the PS1?
It's 1985 and Sinclair's new 128k model comes bundled with this.
What a Christmas that would have been.
Sometimes it's hard to tell where madness ends and genius begins.
That music's an actual banger
Can’t stop dancing.
The music in this version of doom is amazing!!!!
Love the OS red boot screen... like something out of Terminator or Robocop. 😆
I think the same, it really excites.
This shouldn't even be remotely possible. Really good job!
I liked this music
I can hear AVGN's voice screaming...
DOOM ON THE ZX SPECTRUM ?!
i feel HUGE lack of 'LOVE' button beween LIKE and DISLIKE.

You think that's awesome?
Sandisk Clip Zip can play Doom on it's little 96x96 display if you install Rockbox.
...
Yeah.
Kaka carrot cake
***** Smaller display = easier job.

Ali Arib
it's TINY?

that music is so awesome
This should've been the launch title of the machine, back in '82 ;)

anyone here because of the AVGN?
Yup. Couldn’t believe it could play on a spectrum
✋️
me
I am cry about music...
I came here because of a doomworld post.
Holy cow, check out that rockin' theme!
+SuperJustinChannel so damn catchy !... I would like to listen to the whole thing

I can't believe this is an actual port.
Had ZX as my first computer. Never heard music as good as this 👍
Doom in a club!
ABSOLUTELY TECHNO
This looks pretty nice for a ZX Spectrum and nice chiptune music theme, guess the audio channel is not available for sound effects ^^;
+Gato303co I guess so, unless they'd be made on beeper.
+yerzmyey Take my *thumbsup* 👍 since votes are disabled ;-)
I think this engine would be better suited to Wolfenstein
But then you can't claim your running doom on a zx spectrum
Still better than Call of Duty.
Better than 32x music
Wow, even booting the computer is cool.
It's like from the point of view of terminator.
Exactly what i thought
The music is so great in this game it's like retro
+Hanh Nguyen It's on an old computer with simple music capabilities.
Не ожидал) если бы застал спектр в своё время, эта игра была бы одной из ходовых. Музончик крутой кстати
I'm sure I liked this video 14 years ago. 🤔🤔🤔
15 now.
@@Bluemustacheproductions Well, f-ck me... 15 years ago?
Да, было время, убил несколько дней на эту демо-игру двадцать лет назад.
It's definitely an upgrade on the C64 version that I saw.
Alright this is actually pretty good for a zx FUCKING SPECTRUM
WTF? why is this music so JAMMIN!?
agreed, this is snes donkey kong 1 or golden axe on the genesis level of hard driving beats.
Really... I don't know why I put the descriptions here if nobody reads them. Check out this thread (you can get the games from there) and delete spaces
" worldofspectrum . org / forums /? show thread . php ? t = 25860 "
And load it on your own ZX128K.
Hi, yes - it is actual ZX music. It is PSG, which means it uses AY chip.
that’s not even the main theme of doom💀
It's like running Battlefield 5 on the Neo Geo.
Awesome!
The Calculator version was great as well 👍
Then I guess Crysis is out of the question?
The BGM is still awesome as hell !
Hell, yeah! Speccy forever! Still play it.
That soundtrack is kinda better than E1M1!
this would have kicked arse in the 80s
Yuri Gagarin Hell Yeah!
incredible work, am amazed at how fully this seems to work
1:28 Doom Guy Appeared To Have Had A Stroke...
Nice, dude. There were also several "Windows-like" desktops for ZX Spectrum but finally I think the best are "NortonCommander-like" GUIs for ZX.
The music at 2·20 then 3·30 is brilliant
YES
This soundtrack has gotta be some of the worlds very first techno
No, very first techno was created at the beginning 90's and game is from 1996. Some composers tried to make such soundtrack for video game but only on Amiga it sounded good back then. Good example is Project X and Stardust soundtrack.
Ahh, see theres my mistake, i was thinking this was from the early 80s
Techno-Doom
Music cool
😎
I feel the same lol
Its amazing how far gaming has come, respect to the beginning stages.
music
HEAVY CHIPTUNE MIX BRO!! XD
I'm here cuz avgn
Is there a way to get this soundtrack because it's amazing!
its free give it
Impressive, it's really amazing what alot of the old 8-bit computers like the speccy and the c64 were really capable of
thats beautiful.
Seems like it'd be hard to judge distance in this. But that soundtrack is kick-ass. I want a midi of it. Or at least a youtube upload of it.
WOW!
if only this could have been available back in '82!
Amazing stuff, AND our 3 month old loves the soundtrack!,
Fantastic! Amazing we can still squeeze more technical chicanery out of these old machines...Now just waiting on Rage for the Vic 20.
Nice music! That would sound incredible if an actual band did a cover of that with real instruments.
I miss the days when FPS had more colour than black, grey & brown.
Thanks for showing this game.
Awesome music!!!
soundtrack is amazing :-)
I like the song
The music is badass here. :)
music is awesome !!

I don't know if someone will read this comment, but here's the in-game music:
zxtunes.com/author.php?id=453&play=11838
Sweet, thanks!
Wait... this is sweet, but what's an .ftc file? I've never heard of that before, how do you play it?
That's a Fucking heavy SoundTrack Dude.
WOW ❗❗ 😮😮😮
💖💖💖
I would love to play this version on ZDoom. Somebody get on that!
Awesome! Looks challenging
Nice music!
So many games I never realised got ported to the spectrum.
that's really well made omg
the music here is awesome
This Game looks uNreAl !!
Spectrum ZX always wins on music terms
Gotta love how the picture with the logo and the doom guy in it says DOOM, but the menu says DOOM II.
It says Doom I. They removed the extra Roman numeral.
***** Ah proven wrong again... Well... Why didn't they just use the Doom 1 logo? Like the one with the doom guy in it?
Yeah i don't get it either.
looks like it could have been the gameboycolor
It is also a 4-bit sound chip. It's called AY. As for the game, it was a "home brew" game, as far as I know.
Despite looking horrific, this would have blown my tiny little mind back in the late 80's on my ZX.
Awesome soundtrack too.
man the ZX can pump some good tunes, the castlevania soundtrack on the the ZX is amazing too
Haaaayyy Weeeyyyy, that music is freaking bad ass!!!!
That's for sure. It slaaaps hard baby!
The jammin music has to be the best thing to come out of this.
Does anyone have the track that plays during gameplay or knows it's name?
+SpiralPegasus see my comment above
It's limited, but the fact that this was accomplished at all is amazing.
I loved my spectrum, but this game was virtually unplayable....
Because many people plays the games. There are about 100 new quality games for ZX Spectrum per year lately. And people still want more.
i like this soundtrack better than the original
There may be no sound effects, but the excellent music more than makes up for it!
Is rtx on?
No. If you want RTX go somewhere else
more like wolfenstein :P
Hey, the music is damn good! It's awesome.
Sheer excellence.. mind blown
Atleast the music is kick ass!
Yes!
Even doom guy agrees
The horrifying reality of what we settled for 30 years ago, with the added benefit of 30 years of game design knowledge. Great stuff mate :D
People better be glad this was able to work on the ZX Spectrum..... It looks amazing for it, not much color bleeding which surprises me and some people, but only the gun has it. I bet the controls were BUTCHERED due to how he is moving.
