There is one such town in South Asia. It is half in India and half in Bhutan. the Indian half is known as Jaigaon and is in the West Bengal state. The Bhutanese half is known as Phuentsholing. It is a single town and you don't even notice where the one half ends and the other one starts. Both currencies are accepted in all shops and establishments, both Bengali and Bhutanese languages are known and freely spoken by everyone, there is no bad blood between anyone. As you go walking away from the city center in one direction, you see more of Buddhist monasteries, more cleanliness, more happy faces, people having the typical facial features of Bhutan/ North east India/ China/ Japan, etc. (I don't want to use the anthropological term). Similarly, as you go walking away from the city center in the other/ opposite direction, you see brown skin, crowded streets, paan stains on footpaths, Bengali being spoken, buses going towards Kolkata/ Siliguri/ Darjeeling, etc.
Cool. I lived for a while in Bad Reichenhall in southern Bavaria, it was mostly in Germany but one suburb, Grossgmain, was in Austria. Austria was not in the EU in those days so there was a border with the usual armed guards and motorists were stopped for passport checks, but if you rode a bicycle across they just waved you through, thinking you were a local. All the streets stopped short of the border, all except the one where the checkpoint was. The actual border was a small river and in many places locals had thrown a plank across so they could visit their neighbours without troubling the border guards. Back then you had to carry both Schillings and Deutschemarks if you wanted to shop in all suburbs. There was even a walking trail through the forest that zigzagged back and forth between the two countries, marked every 20m or so by a white stone with a black line on it. The locals had a saying, "Here a man can stand in Germany and piss in Austria." I proved a woman could do it as well!
