Portland is such a great city...
In the 1980s, I lived in Vancouver (BC) but bused it down to S.F. or L.A. *many* times. The thing I remember most about Portland is that my bus connection meant I would have to remain in that city for at least two hours, so I just sat inside the Greyhound terminal, munching on candy bars and drinking sodas from the vending machines while I watched coin-operated TV. There were *always* black guys hanging out inside the lobby and they always tried to get my attention so they could hustle me for some $. I also remember sitting at a TV with my suitcases by my side; the moment I decided to leave my seat for two minutes to get a candy bar, some kid hopped into my seat and started watching the TV show I had just paid for...and my suitcases were right there, too! I was bigger than that punk, so I thought of grabbing him by the ankles and pulling him off my seat, but then decided that *I* would probably be the one who got busted.
