It's a bit of a mess for me. It's logistically impossible, for Haldir and his troops to have got from Lothlorien to Helms Deep in time they would have had to have left before Aragorn and co even arrived in Rohan. Secondly in order to get the story back on track with the book all the elves have to somehow just die off screen in the battle, not a single one survives which is in utter contradiction to Super Mario Legolamb bouncing about Mumakil single-handedly and taking orcs down while surfing shields. An army of Legolambs should be invincible as portrayed in these films. I have no idea what narrative purpose it serves to ruin the books sense of utter hopelessness against the numbers by having elves turn up, and even less idea why its there when they just all drop down dead to no purpose anyway. As far as I can tell PJ felt he needed a vaguely recognisable character death so shoehorned this whole elves at Helms Deep thing in there just to have a slowmo death scene. It's very cheap writing.

At 3:45, the actions of the Uruk-hai pounding the butts of their spears against the ground were semi-improvised. There was a lot of down time between actions, while the lighting and sound guys were setting up and adjusting their equipment, and during these lulls the Orcs (many of whom were Maori, or native New Zealanders) and the Elves would trade good-natured jibes and catcalls at each other. At one point this evolved into the Orcs rhythmically pounding their spears against the ground, which the director (not sure at this point whether it was PJ or one of his assistants) liked so much that he worked it into the action. At one point it mutated into a real Maori haka, or ceremonial war dance! The Battle of Helm's Deep took four months to film, longer than many full movies, all shot at night in the rain (real or artificial). The stunties had T-shirts made that read "I survived Helm's Deep." You should watch the Making Of videos that accompany the DVD version--lots of good anecdotes there.

the main reason why so many prefer the extended cut, is not just because there's more 'content' in it.. (without giving spoilers) there are important / good things that happen that they removed from the theatrical release.. if you watch the theatrical release for the 3rd one, basically there will be many plotholes or things that arent explained.

The scene between Boromir and Faramir and their dad was cut from the Theatrical version of the movie. It's the main reason LOTR nerds prefer the Extended version, as it explains many of Boromir's motivations in FOTR. There's another critical scene near the beginning of ROTK that was similarly cut; you'll recognize it when you see it.

Hi guys, you seem to be confusing Isengard and Mordor because of the similar towers. As the title says, they're two very different places : Isengard is the one where Saruman is, and where the Ents (the trees) attacked. Mordor is where Frodo and Sam are trying to go, and where Sauron is. The big black gate you saw in part 3 of the movie is Mordor. So the Ents attacking Isengard at the same time Frodo was captive couldn't have helped him with entering in Mordor like you seemed to think ^^
I hope it clarify things for you, can't wait for the third movie, i hope it will be the extended version too (scenes that were cut are actually much more important than Merry and Pippin smoking weed xD )

Though not covered in the Lord of the Rings books or movies, there were battles in other parts of Middle Earth, and the dwarves fought in a major battle against Sauron's forces in the north in the Battle of Dale. This was the area around the Lonely Mountain where much of the Hobbit is set.

While there are scenes in the extended version that I really like, I much prefer the theatrical version of Two Towers. The Merry and Pippin scenes with the ents REALLY drag and affect the pacing in the extended version.
I think people tend to get a bit carried away with forcing the extended versions on reactors. It’s a big trilogy and the movies are VERY long. You’ve got to ease yourself in gradually as a first time watcher. There’s nothing wrong with the theatrical versions; they are the ones the director intended the audience to see in the cinema after all.
Overall though, I think this was a much better reaction than your Fellowship of the Ring video, where I could tell you weren’t as into it because you were talking over it so much. In this reaction you were a lot more focused and I think you enjoyed it more because of it.
I wouldn’t mind at all if you watched the theatrical version of Return of the King, it still absolutely slaps and is usually the one that converts first time watchers into fans. ☺️

Very very bad idea to watch the theatrical version of return of the king. Of all of the trilogy, return of the king is the one most chopped up by the theatrical version. I saw it first in the cinema and i was horrified at how bad it was. It literally just cuts a couple of major characters and never mentions them, while introducing something new with no explanation. It was almost incomprehensible - and id read the books dozens of times by then. I took my dad along and he didnt have a clue what was going on. The extended version of ROTK isnt just a better version - its the only version that contains the coherent story. And if you watch the extended version, you’ll still want more at the end.
The battle of helms deep is not lengthened from the theatrical version compared to the extended version. The only difference is that in the extended version the trees are shown to have moved to the riverbed outside helms deep, which is what happened in the books - the trees get their vengeance on the orcs. Without that scene the trees are made pointless and helpless when, in fact, its the trees that destroy the orcs at helms deep.
The extended version of two towers gave more of the ents, trees, and pippin and merry storyline - chopped to almost nothing in the theatrical version.
Ive watched all of these movies from start to finish many times. But i dont watch the theatrical versions, because the extended versions leave out a lot, and the theatrical versions are worse.

That being said, I do feel like they add another level of immersion and lore to the world that you otherwise would never have been aware of without reading/listening to the actual books. I do love the way you edit/created these though. Too often RUclipsrs do so much editing and cutting of content that it makes me want to stop watching the reaction, but you all are spot on. People need to understand that the extended editions are for fans. Newbies should not be watching the extended editions. They are great and I do a marathon twice a year of those editions. But most LOTR fans started with the theatrical. The theatrical releases are perfection on their own. The theatrical has better pacing and tension with the extended giving information away too early so we see stuff coming, like the mithril in the mines in the first movie, 5 minutes before the fight in the cave.
If they like the theatrical then recommend the Extended. Because the extended is not made for them and you can tell that they got tired and overwhelmed. Come for the story first, then return for the world building.

This is hands down my favorite film series ever, and the number one trilogy i always look forward to watching my favorite reaction channels post for us to experience with them for the first time. That being said.. after this reaction I wish you guys never chose these movies to react to. Your attitude towards them and inability to take them as serious as they are presented ruined what should have been a great reaction and enjoyable watch. The fact that you gave more weight and interest to Harry Potter than LOTR is such a let down and underwhelming turn out that I have no interest in watching you guys finish this trilogy and that’s never happened for me before. I get that it’s a complex story with tons of characters and names or locations to remember but I’ve seen people who have never been into fantasy at all find a love for it through these films, but you guys seem to have already made up your minds about how much you’re going to like these movies overall. Sorry guys, I usually enjoy your reactions, but for the first time you’re guys constant choice to talk over important dialogue or moments, Monica’s indifference and eye rolling attitude towards them as well as homies constant comparison to other films that took heavy inspiration from LOTR, not the other way around, made this my least enjoyable reaction watch ever

    • @RicoPresents
      @RicoPresents  3 месяца назад +2

Each to their own, not everyone is gonna like everything and if you didn’t enjoy the reaction sounds like a you a problem.
Also HP will Always be number one for me, if yo watched the reactions you know why, if I’m being completely honest the fandom of LOTR out of all the franchises I’ve watched have been the most toxic entitled group of people I’ve come across, and that alone has made me not enjoy the films as much as I think I would have or seen them the way they were intended to be, which is actually very telling, and sad.
Also as a huge Harry Potter fan the fact you think something I’ve never seen before will hold more weight than a franchise that I’ve been in love with since I was a kid, compared to a franchise I’ve just started watching and the way in which their fandom has been so rude, to my partner and I is crazy to me.

@@RicoPresents Well, you've shown you didn't pay attention nor understood any of the criticism levied towards the both of you on the original video. Or you did and can't admit fault. Not sure which is worse, but both are terrible.
Your behavior in that video makes the same dismissive and arrogant behavior in this response very predictable and a great justification for my abandoning your channel for good.
Reaction is not the same as commentary and speaking over well-written dialogue is not good on either front.
Quite frankly, your wife and yourself perfectly showcased how much intellect and emotional maturity you both have. Not much of either, if I wasn't clear enough.
      Good riddance.

Take everything people are saying in the comments from this video and the fellowship then combine it with the fact that you watched the extended edition for the two towers, but said it was too long, so you’re only gonna watch the regular theatrical edition for the Return of the King…. You guys are literally shooting yourselves in the foot with this trilogy. What should have been the highlight of your guys channel is literally going to mark the beginning of its downfall.

I love these films but I wouldn't recommend the extended editions for you first time watching. I saw all three films in theaters, but I watched the extended versions at home where I could watch over the course of a few days. It's like piling a bunch of food on your plate at a buffet you've never been to.

I think you guys should have stuck with the theatrical version, it's paced better. The extended cuts are great for those who are already fans as they flesh out the world and the characters better, but they lack the narrative momentum and intensity of the theatrical cuts. With the Return of the King, you should definitely see the theatrical version, as the extended cut has numerous scenes that ruin the pacing.

The theatrical version of Return of the King completely cuts out a very important character which never made any sense to me. Even the actor who played him was very upset.(Leaving out the names incase Rico hasn't watched it yet.)

If you do the theatrical for the third, after doing the extended for the second, it would be such a huge letdown and disappointment. No one‘s(including myself )going to watch the reaction for the third movie theatrical version just so you guys know. Just work through the technical issues, every other channel does.. plus you’ll be shorting yourself on the full experience that movie brings. But at the end of the day, it’s your choice, just know you’ll be the only one who wants the theatrical version for the final movie and it’ll be the biggest missed opportunity of the channel so far. If the length was a problem, you should’ve just done the theatrical for the first two and then done the extended for the third because that’s where it matters. Also, maybe the chick could sit the third one out so she doesn’t bring the mood down and you can enjoy it to the fullest extent. She’s kind of a buzzkill.

Si.
