    Interestingly enough, in the original series, they mention Lucy Grey briefly but not by name. Which adds to the song she's named after.
    "Then he reads the list of past District 12 victors. In seventy-four years, we have had exactly two. Only one is still alive."

    the snake was not venomous, even in the book it wasn't. Coriolanus' inner dialogue was insane in the book, he thought the whole way through Lucy Gray belonged to him, as almost property. What is really heartbreaking is that Tigris believed in him so much that Coryo could be a good person, and he just couldn't do it.

      He has a mental break. He is pushed to choose between the life he wants and the girl he loves and just snaps. He starts making up stuff in his head about how Lucy Gray is a Victor and dangerous and how everyone that crosses her ends up dead. Its all crap but he needs to amp himself up to pull the trigger. Then the snake bite, which confirms to him his delusions. @@LifeWithHeather818

    Honestly, i dont think Lucy Gray planted that snake. In the books, they mention that its cold out. I think that Lucy ran from Coryo knowing he was lying and she dropped the shawl when she ran. The snake could have just wondered under there because of Lucy's lingering body heat. Coryo just assumed she did it on purpose.
    Great reaction! Suzanne writes such a good story.

      The shawl isn't even on the ground in the book. Its snagged on a branch. How do you plant a snake there? Either she snagged it when running or used the branch as a hanger before she went to the river to get the Katniss.

    BTW Lucy didn't know he was responsible for that...she only got OFFICIALLY suspicious when he said "3 is enough for me" if you watch carefully.
    That's when things took a turn and her distrust became clear. After that, you can see that she already concluded to run away from him cause he inadvertedly admitted to killing more people (including his friend).
    That's why she still met him by the hanging tree cause she still tried to believe in him. But realized in the woods and in the cabin that he was crazy lol and that she might be next.

    I love the transitional moments with Lucy Gray-the snake down the dress gets everyone’s attention, but the way she casually told the peacekeepers to just give her a moment after the mayor hits her, that tells a story, and the way she addresses the peacekeepers after her little performance is gold too, “C’mon, boys,” she says like they’re just going to grab a drink after another bad day in Twelve. 👸🏻

    The movie was a decent interpretation but I do recommend people read the book (I know, annoying book person saying that lol), which delves a lot more into Snow's sociopathic mindset and the atmosphere at this time period. They softened a lot of the edges for the movie, which I understand why, but it's worth a read! I really liked the movie, I think they hit everything they needed to, but it's cool to get some context.

      I think that, instead of focusing on one Victor's Hunger Games, perhaps a book (and a film) giving snapshots into different tribute's experiences (kind of like a highlight reel of their Games) and using them meeting other Victors as a segue into other Victors' lives. For example, a short view into Mags winning her Hunger Games and becoming the first Victor to go on tour, then her meeting a future Victor and how they won their Games, then them meeting Haymitch and showing flashbacks of his experience in the Games and what happened to his loved ones afterwards, then Mags mentoring Finnick and how he became the youngest Victor and got exploited, then him bonding with Johanna and us seeing Johanna become who she became, etc. That would all lead us up to Katniss and Peeta's Games. It could kind of be a "History of the Hunger Games" book and movie - not to be a huge blockbuster necessarily, but to give fans more insight into the former Tributes and the lives of the past Victors in more depth.

    Short info - in the book, Sejanus was bought out of trouble by his father (after his stunt in the arena)
    Coriolanus thought that he might buy him out of this one too, but then realized he was wrong when the commander said that Sejanus would be executed.
    The recordings also not played in the book. So Sejanus might not have known about the betrayal - here, he definitely figured it out because he was careful that nobody would listen in on them.

    While finishing the book, I'd pay close attention to the epigraph quotes, and the Frankenstein one especially: "I thought of the promise of virtues which he had displayed on the opening of his existence, and the subsequent blight of all kindly feeling by the loathing and scorn which his protectors had manifested towards him." This is supposed to represent Coriolanus, and how he is a product of his war and his mentors: starvation, family tragedy, etc. are not easy things to live through, especially given that Dr. Gaul is ironically the only influential figure "on his side", versus Dean Highbottom who has the potential to influence him in a good direction but instead only shows resentment. Suzanne Collins explained how the other quotes show the views of his "protectors", aka. Dr. Gaul with the Hobbes quotes on the brutality of human nature that needs to be controlled versus the Lockian view of the natural rights of humanity (Sejanus + Lucy Gray).
    I know it's a popular take that Coriolanus was born inherently evil/sociopathic, but I think the theme of the novel itself is that our circumstances shape us, but we always have a choice. Coriolanus (as Tom Blyth said) was born into circumstances that seem tailor made to make him into the dictator he becomes, but the tragedy is the fact that we see he might have ended up differently if he had chose the difficult, good path.

    I don't think Katniss was supposed to have the same accent as Lucy. Lucy says that she's not really from District 12, so it makes sense that she has a different accent. Besides, the way people speak changes over time, so even if they had an accent now, it could change in 64 years. We see that in the Capitol, people don't sound exactly the same as in the original movies.

    Regarding accents: The Covey aren’t necessarily from the Appalachian Mountains since they’re nomads & they aren’t from District 12; they were merely placed there. So an accent for Lucy Grey isn’t entirely necessary/accurate.
    There are studies showing that many accents are fading and in due time they’ll either be meshed together or lost completely so Katniss doesn’t really have to have an accent nearly a century later.

    • @euphrasiepolly5575
      @euphrasiepolly5575 6 месяцев назад +2

      I mean, the covey isn't from 12 but Lucy lived most of her life there since she was a child. And children tend to adopt the accents of the people around them more than adults do. Think immigrant parents and their childrren. Even if both of them lived in an area for the same amount of time, the child is going to acquire the native accent but the parent would still keep their accent.

    • @Taewills
      @Taewills 6 месяцев назад

      @@euphrasiepolly5575 The Covey travelled through southern states before 12 & have a “Southern” accent. So they all have non-Appalachian accents but it didn’t matter to peace keepers- it was close enough lol
      There are children who don’t adopt accents of the surrounding natives btw. Especially speaking multiple languages- sometimes they have a hint of their primary tongue/ accent. This often creates new dialects/accents altogether which is how the Appalachian accent was created in the 1st place.

    loved the movie but i really hate the use of the it's the thing we love most phrase at the end. snow did not love lucy he saw her as his posesion, while the end makes it seem like she betrayed him (she didnt, she realized he was going to kill her too and run) and that's what made him become what he ends up being which uhm no, he was always a little bit of a piece of shit and then he became a full piece of shit

    This is actually a decent watch in my opinion. I mean, for a Hunger Games prequel with no Jennifer Lawrence goes, that’s about as good as it can get. It’s not that bad of a prequel.

    Hard to believe that it’s the end of the year. Happy New Year Tim. I used to be obsessed with the Hunger Games books and movies. This movie has its problems for sure. But overall I enjoyed it.

    Strangely for me, I enjoyed the movie more than the book, bc I thought the movie polished up the story and left out unnecessary details. It is definitely helpful to read the book to get Coryo's inner dialogue tho. I saw the movie first so maybe that's why...

    Everyone blames Snow so much for betraying Sejanus ... And while I agree that he did betray him he was just looking out for himself. His character during the entire book makes all his decisions out of self interest/preservation.
    Snow honestly believed that he would have been in trouble just by association with Sejanus. Just like when he was forced into the arena and Gaul said "you chose to be friends with him" and just like at the hanging tree how lil was arrested just for loving Arlo. Snow would have been punished for Sejanus had he been discovered.
    Also at Sejanus hanging they didn't play the part with Coryo's voice so she didn't know for sure until the mess up saying he killed 3.

    Oh, yeah I heard they were making a prequel. XD I may just skip this reaction and watch it myself (no offense Timmy my good man)(also thanks for reading my serious comment it means a lot someone with a big per audience actually cares to read and listen to someone going through something ridiculous 😊❤ thank you Timmy no really. , I’d go more in detail if your curious Timmy, but the past is the past. You gotta move forward and not care what judgmental assuming meanies say on deviant art. XD not everyone is the same. (Including humor) Everyone is different and that’s ok. ☺❤
