Hope you doing well with you move to new home and covid - 19 but new idea comes from challengings time . Always appreciated your organized and clean work . Yes , as a son of engineer with had 4 engineer degrees I just learn to love and breath organized approach to tasks . Thumbs up 🤓
*Wow, I'm truly amazed by your dedication and creativity in renovating your garage on a budget! Your resourcefulness and ability to transform the space into something functional and appealing is truly inspiring. It's so refreshing to see someone take on a project with limited resources and turn it into something incredible. Keep up the fantastic work, and I can't wait to see the final result! Your efforts are a reminder that with passion and a little ingenuity, any space can be transformed into a wonderful haven. 👏🛠*
Personally, I think that it says a lot about you that you captured and released the spiders rather than killing them. Found some useful ideas for my own messy garage. Great video, I'll be checking out more of your content. Thanks!
Yeeees totally agree! They're so inexpensive but I hardly see anyone use them. I used to wonder if they were just a gimmick but I won't paint without them now 😄
Only if you have a very smooth surface, don't need a very clean cut in, and don't have the skill with a brush. A brush will give you more control with how much paint you put on and most people don't use enough. However, I started painting as a pro 25 years ago so it is second nature and I can cut in left or right handed with contrasting colors better than many tape jobs........many corners are not straight and I can compensate with a brush to make a line that appears straight on a textured surface. Use a pole on your roller and keep it wet, it should not have a noisy sound of the dry nap pulling away from the wall. You are right about brushing and rolling giving better coverage than the small airless. Nice job on the light cords. I have the same lights and plan to trim the wires after I finish the major rebuild I'm in the middle of for my garage.
Next project, Paint the floor with garage floor epoxy paint. You wont believe the difference, it really gives the garage a clean finished look! best of luck.
Nice titling blending into the video content! Nice space after the renovation! Very professional feel to the video editing. All the best, Rob in Switzerland.
I watched this video while on a random RUclips binge and I would not have thought in a million years that this was someone first video on a RUclips channel. So freakin good!
Should add some edge banding /trim to the front edge of the work surface. If it's all chewed up, you can cut a clean edge on it with your skill saw and just use a bunch of wood glue or construction adhesive. Would really polish the look.
Danny, you are THE man!!! It really is easy, if you have patience and a little know how. I stumbled on your channel and showed my 12 year old son (we both agreed the editing and music are great). We are starting the garage reno next week and got some great ideas From your video. God bless and keep makin videos please. Much like TV, RUclips is quickly getting littered with trash.
Nice clean & bright look. Can’t wait to see u fill it up with tools and supplies/materials. I can’t wait till I can get a shop and get my tools out of storage and do pretty much what u did.
Thanks man! I am so excited to build it out more as well. I'm thinking French cleats, workbenches, dust collection, storage cabinets.. who knows what else. Good luck on your future builds! If you make a video let me know!
Thanks Doug! My original plan was to paint the whole thing, but when it dawned on me how quickly it’ll get beat up I changed my mind. I think I prefer this way anyway!
Immediately purchased those lights from your link! Just installed half of them today and it blew me away! Thanks for that man! Somehow I never saw these and they have stellar reviews!
Dude. Danny! Man, it has been a minute. I saw you post on FB and checked out your RUclips. This video is so good! You're a natural. Can't wait to see more. I hope all is well!
I really enjoyed watching, can't wait for part 2. Those painting pads are fantastic, I have several rooms with feature colour on one wall and those pads are fantastic for neat corners and no messy bleeding edges. Brilliant video, keep up the great work. Consider me Subscriber 384... :)
Painting tip--unless rolling in a very tight space, always extend the handle on the roller. A simple 3’ wood handle will double your speed and give you a smoother finish. Painting a full wall using only the roller is choppy, slow and eventually beats up your hands & wrist. A+ on the remodel. You really invested time in places where it matters.
Nice video! There are tons of these channels on RUclips, but not many that say “I did this, but I messed up” That’s very inspiring to a (very) amateur DIYer!
Amazingly easy to watch . First time viewing you channel and do not know your professional background but you make a pleasent easy to follow , well done !!!! You are on your way especially shop nation ( engineer ) making a positive comments a bonus 😎
You got what it takes calmness, humor accompanied with practical projects. Into today's world environment with uncertainty is a magnet thus keep at it and run with it 😊
I don't have a garage but I do have work to do around the house. It is often hard to find motivation to do repairs and improvements, but watching this video helped
I love that thanks for sharing! I can say what I’ve found to helps me personally is the practice of “chunking” where I break a task into smaller parts so it doesn’t feel so overwhelming. So instead of thinking “I have this entire project/video to do this weekend”, instead I will just say “I’ll work on this for 30 minutes whether I want to or not”. Once I’m in it, I tend to get in the flow and work much longer. Anyway I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Hell yeah. As for under the work bench... mini fridge, LEDs to see better, a stereo. Or like you said, drawers. Maybe leave room for a vice. Looks a lot better tho. Good job.
I totally get that 🤙🏻I didn’t paint it because I felt the paint would have been tore up pretty quick and I planned on putting doors on it eventually as well. It’s kind of grown on me though!
Maybe a mini fridge would be a good addition to the empty spot in the middle of the work bench. Also, what soldering iron is that? Looks like it distributed solder out of the end making it very easy to do.
Good suggestion! I may have to do that. It’s a super cheap standard solder I’ve had for years. I just pre-soldered the cables to make it a little easier on me because I’m terrible 😅
@@ModernRemade We've all been there. If you need advice or anything I'd be happy to offer it. You've taken a step I've wanted to do for years, start a youtube channel, so I commend you there.
Nice job. Looking for ideas for finishing my garage which is bare studs for the outer walls and got a number of them. The only thing I could suggest is the next time you paint the ceiling get the whitest high gloss paint you can find to increase the light in the garage.
Hahaha that project creep is a real thing, and probably how most projects get started... "if I'm doing this, I might as well go ahead and do this..." lol! I'm a little embarrassed to say your "dirty" garage looks clean compared to our mess, but this is super inspiring! Great video quality/editing too!
Thank you! 🤗 It really is a good/bad situation. Good because it forces me to learn but at the same time I often bite off more than I can chew 😅 Honestly, the “before” was after about 12+ hours of cleaning. It was baaaad before-before haha.
That's a good garage cleanup - thanks for posting. A couple of corrections and tips to help yourself and others: 1) That "beam" @12:20 is a post. Posts go vertically, beams go horizontally. 2) That's not how you roll paint @11:45 lol! Use an extension handle on the roller, do NOT use the roller handle like you did. Your way is way harder on the back and legs squatting like that, puts your face close for paint droplets flicking off the roller, and most importantly, ensures uneven coverage of the paint on the wall. When you use an extension handle (eg 5') you stand back from the wall and use leverage to radically reduce the movement in your arms making for much easier rolling for much longer for much less effort. It also smooths out the paint with much more even pressure on the roller and gets you well away from the roller itself for less paint spatter AND you can gauge coverage more accurately. 3) When you roll, use a "W" or an "M" technique which also evens coverage and reduces banding. 4) FWIW, I would go draws under the bench with foam cutouts for tools. 5) A very cheap way to improve your concrete garage floor would be epoxy paint with flakes in it. Looks great, is very hard-wearing, and relatively easy to DIY. 6) For the LED lighting, I would make a small ceiling hole above the fitting and feed the joining cable between lights through that. Much neater and no cutting / re-joining with solder.
1. Good call out thanks for clarifying. 2/3. Agreed! My intention wasn't to provide a painting "tutorial" so I left out a few details. When I say "long, overlapping lines" - I do not lift the roller, result in long M's and W's. I prefer this to the common 'random' style because, for me at least; it lessens the chance directional variation in the finish. As far as extensions go - I couldn't use one in this particular spot because there is another wall directly behind me. I would have ended up with more holes to patch 😂 4. I'm diggin' this idea. That may be a winner 🤙 5. I've considered this a few times! Call me old fashioned but I actually prefer the raw concrete look, cracks and all 😀 6. That's another good one. I did later clean the cords up with cable clips and it doesn't look half bad!
Love the details in the video and the fact that you mess up shows you're just like anyone else. Not perfect! I just got a garage and this vid makes me feel more confident about doing it myself. Thanks!
Well, the new, more extended lighting fixtures make a huge difference!! Jumps right out, in opening pictures! 1) dust, patch and paint walls, ceiling. Corner protection. 1a) Killz products for primer. 1b) Repair windows, window trim. Door trim. Paint trim. 2) vacuum, sweep, leaf blower. 3) install new lighting. 4) remove item, sort, declutter and keep only what you truly need, use. 5) repair work bench and wood shelves. Set to height for storage bins. Paint. 6) pipe column.... paint it, or wrap for decoration. 7) upgrade door knob, lever style hardware. The end.
What thickness of drywall was in place? Did you use/have any green paper board for mildew resistance? I'm currently in year 4 of my garage retrofit; remove '70s wood paneling, put up pink rolls in the stud bays, but haven't moved on to drywall yet. Also in the process of putting pink batts above the garage to control temperature extreme during summer/winter.
That sounds like a great plan! I’m pretty sure the previous owners finished the garage themselves and from what I can tell. I doubt much effort went into either mildew resistance or insulation. Good on you for doing it right!
@@ABrazHouse Unfortunately not, my Instagram game is pretty weak 😅 Looks like only about 15 views came from there. Just about everything else came from RUclips browse features 🤙
trying to close on our 1st and forever home...it has a 2 door garage with an office/mancave area that will eventually have a full bath...but 1st I got to paint and add spray foam insulation... thanks for the pole idea but will try to do 2 colors weaved together
Hey congrats! The pole was one of my favorite aspects of the reno, it looks really cool 🤙🏻 if you post yours online please shoot it my way I’d love to see it!
definitely one of those videos where you start at „ugh 15 minutes?! I’ll just skip trough it“ and end at „HOW THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH THE ENTIRE THING?“ haha! great job on the reno and the vid 👌🏻
Haha thanks so much! I was really surprised how much I had to speed up and cut out and still be 15 minutes 😩. I also found out getting the whole thing cut down under 1 minute for instagram was impossible 😂
I love how you’re funny, too!! There’s a really cool guy (I think his logo was Carma) that turned his garage into “showroom white!” He did the floors AND insulated the garage door and insulated the walls, added drywall and even put up an amazing air conditioning DIY kit. Pretty cool! Love the blue shelving btw!
Thanks Jay! That's super cool! Some of the garages I've seen on YT are mind-blowing. You may be interested in @ABrazHouse. He built a whole studio and a freakin-attic lift; puts mine to shame! 😆
@@ModernRemade whoa really?? Checking it out now, thanks for the suggestion!! Btw the guy I was telling you about installed a split DIY mr. cool kit a/c unit that can be controlled with your phone!!
@@ModernRemade Excellent! I have my first video of the rehab completed, and I am almost done with the second. I’m holding off on posting the series until I have a few shows done, so I can post with more regularity than I have in the past. Quality, not quantity? Right? I think I know your answer… :-)
Thanks Ryan! Since it picked up in the past few weeks I’ve kicked it into gear for the next one. I am 90% done so it should be out this weekend 🤞🏻So glad you liked it!
Love this video! I'm currently working on a small outdated garage and found this super inspiring! NO JOKE on how terrible sanding is 😭😭😭 Glad you got through it, the results are wonderful :D
You mentioned that you removed the drywall tape on the ceiling. May I ask why? Tape is usually placed onto the joints when the drywall is installed, and I don't understand why one would remove it. Also, did you float the ceilings with fresh mud after removing the popcorn?
That's a great callout - I didn't even realize I left out that explanation! ha. Over time, the tape had began to crack and peel away from the ceiling/wall in a few spots. For the ceiling, from what I can recall, there were only a few spots that required some touch-up with mud, but for the remaining 95% I got by just sanding. Thanks for watching!
Just had our offer accepted on a house and I’m excited to get the garage set up for projects! This video was a great watch in the meantime! Keep it up!
I seriously cannot believe you only have 889 subscribers. Glad I found you this early. It's going to be fun watching your channel grow! Best of luck to you :)
I think some cabinet ambiance light, epoxy floor and wall or hide-o garage utility hoses (air, water, vac, power washer?), Some creative power tool storage and charging station for lights and power ools. Ryobi make a dope garage door opener that's modular taking the power tool battery and having accessories like air, fan, Bluetooth, WiFi, just out of my budget. I need a poor man's version of that. I have a 2 car garage with little to no room to work with and two giant garage queens
All great ideas thanks! 🙌 Epoxy floors have been one of my most requested. I may have to do that sometime soon! Otherwise, I'm 100% onboard with better storage and kind of where my heads at right now. Thanks Garrett!
I've been using those same Ryobi cordless finish nailers for a few years now. Absolutely love 'em! I really like that color you chose for your workbench as well.

At 10:59: Those trim pads are the best kept secret in the industry. They are totally awesome. One is crazy to do trim without them period.

That sounds like a great plan! I’m pretty sure the previous owners finished the garage themselves and from what I can tell. I doubt much effort went into either mildew resistance or insulation. Good on you for doing it right!
Nice job! Using your video and countless others as inspiration to update my garage. Thank you 🙏
Love that thanks David! Best wishes for your garage reno 🙌🏻
Wow! Nicely done. Inspired to update my garage as well. Great tips. Thanks.
Get a hold of me when you do; I’d love to see the before/after!
Great video! Hope to see more content in the near future.
Thanks a lot!
Great video and great idea on the pole. Also liked the lights! Great video and checked out some of your other vids. Good Job and keep it up 🙂
Ayyy thank you! Really appreciate the kindness 🙏
Nice video man! Great work!
Thanks Ted!!
Great job fixing up that bench, cleaned up nicely
I appreciate it! Was definitely worth it 🙌🏻
Looks great! I have been on my own garage quest for a couple of years and finally started a channel! Subscribed!
Hey thanks! Your garage looks awesome!
@@ModernRemade Thanks! Means alot coming from you! Did you find having an Instagram page helpful with growing your subscribers?
"Questions choices" is inevitable in any project. Love this video!
Thanks so much Danielle!
definitely one of those videos where you start at „ugh 15 minutes?!
You may be interested in
@ABrazHouse.
Great video! You should've done a cost breakdown!
I look back and wonder why the heck I didn't do that haha. Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this! Easy sub! Not sure if there are others out there like me who would never do this but still enjoy watching!
Thank you Adam!! I'm a RUclips-aholic so I can totally relate! 😄
cool video mate, keep up the good work dude! Giving me inspiration and ideas for my new house
That's awesome thanks Sam!
@3:38 ☠️☠️ 😂😂 this made me laugh cause I’ve been there so many times with just enough material and cut it short
Haha it's the worst! My look of sheer defeat was very genuine 😂
I can tell how much effort went into this video! Good job
Thanks so much I appreciate it! I surprised myself with how long this took 😅
What a great video! I’m at the beginning stages of a garage rehab, and I like your methods. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks Mike! You got a new sub - I want to see how your garage turns out! 😃
@@ModernRemade Excellent! I have my first video of the rehab completed, and I am almost done with the second. I’m holding off on posting the series until I have a few shows done, so I can post with more regularity than I have in the past. Quality, not quantity? Right? I think I know your answer… :-)
@@MikeFyxdt Haha yep you've got me figured out 😄 I think that's the way to go! 👍
where's the update?!? I went to look for more videos and I only see this one. you did a great job and I wanted to check out more from you
Thanks Ryan! Since it picked up in the past few weeks I’ve kicked it into gear for the next one. I am 90% done so it should be out this weekend 🤞🏻So glad you liked it!
Nice outcome, and yes, I enjoyed the sense of humor.
Thanks for the feedback Lou!
Love this video! I'm currently working on a small outdated garage and found this super inspiring! NO JOKE on how terrible sanding is 😭😭😭 Glad you got through it, the results are wonderful :D
Haha thanks Rebekah I appreciate it! 🙏 good luck on the reno!
Awesome video! I think some interlocking floor mats would really finish up the look. Though, it might get a little messy with the saw dust...
Keep them project videos coming! Fantastically done!
bmxbang 7 Thank you my good man much appreciated! 😁
The 550 cord was genius!
One of my favorite parts for sure!
Some entertaining approaches to things. Glad you didn't get hurt. Now subscribed. Cheers.
Thanks for watching!
great video, definitely giving me ideas for my garage
Great to hear thank you!
like the cord around the post idea. 👍👍
Thank you! Also one of my favorite parts 😁
Really like the paracord idea! Kudos man. Looks awesome.
Thank you! One of my favorite parts as well 😀
I saw something about wet sanding… like a wet car wash sponge and just wiping the drywall mud
Outstanding job both with the makeover and the video editing. Put me down as a subscriber.
Much appreciated, so glad you liked it. Thank you for the sub!
I like the cord wrap idea on the metal posts 👍
Thanks Richard! One of my favorite parts as well!
Looks really nice, way to go.
Thanks a ton!
LOL the "questions choices" moment got me. I do that all the time when I start to undertake a job I hate doing.
Haha! every.single.time.
Great job!! One thing, my OCD went crazy when the screw for the outlet cover wasn’t vertical or horizontal lol!!
Hey thanks! brb, grabbing a screwdriver... 😂
You asked for some ideas for under the Cabinets go with
Cubbies
And if you buy inexpensive Cubies from IKEA you can alternate the levels of shelves.
Very nice!! Love the color!
Thank you!
Just had our offer accepted on a house and I’m excited to get the garage set up for projects! This video was a great watch in the meantime! Keep it up!
Oh heck yeah, congrats! 🤙 Thanks for watching!
I seriously cannot believe you only have 889 subscribers. Glad I found you this early. It's going to be fun watching your channel grow! Best of luck to you :)
Thanks Kyle! Really appreciate the kind words my friend!
Nice video my man, let's see what else ya got! Johnny Builds is pretty rad, too.
Thanks man! Ya know, I actually _just_ subscribed to Johnny after seeing his castle joint bed video. Great stuff!
Thanks Carl! Aren't these nailers great!? One of those "why didn't I buy this sooner" tools :)
this was awesome can't wait to see more videos!
Thank you!! I'm hoping to ramp it up soon :)
Wow, this is a terrific video. I'm excited to see more!
Thanks a ton, so glad you enjoyed it!
Me too. It’s nice to see someone else who thinks little details matter.
What's a good way to learn how to do electrical outlet replacement, home wiring, etc?
I think RUclips is a really incredible resource. I've learned everything I know from it! I wish I had a reference, but honestly I haven't ventured much beyond the most basic electrical work.
@@ModernRemade Thanks!
Amazing work!
Thank you! 🙏
Time for a garage floor epoxy video! I did mine. I could help you!!
