Good report. I am a Tesla owner and soon VinFast. For my Tesla I don’t believe I need Petro Canada or Electrify Canada. BUT, funny to see that while our USA friends are having tons of issues with Electrify America, it seems that we have bigger problems with Petro Canada. That is a shame.
Indeed. Electrify America is not doing well, but for us the opposite is true with Electrify Canada. They are way more reliable than the American counterparts. I am still (and have always been) very dissatisfied with Petro Canada. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy your VinFast!
I am referring to the Porsche Taycan which at that time was the fastest charging EV on the market due to its 800 volt battery architecture. You can charge it from under 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes on the 350kW charger that is available at that location. Today, however, we have two cheaper fast charging 800 volt options in the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Hyundai Ioniq 5 which charge as fast as the Porsche. The best chargers in Canada are the Electric Circuit in Québec. Although they only at the moment have either 50 or 100 KWh units, they always work exactly how they should at either at $12.50 or $15. an hour😅😊
Cool video. As a Tesla owner I know I shouldn’t complain given the amount of Destination and super chargers on the market but the fact that these gas stations and electrify canada only support Chademo or CCS is a bit of a bummer. I would hope they expand to J1772 so that we can be agnostic of where we charge in the future esp since Tesla is opening up to non Tesla owners. Great video and channel. Thanks so much for your support. In Europe all new Tesla cars come standard with a CCS port. This is due to European laws which prohibit automakers from using proprietary connectors. Not so in North America where Tesla uses their own connector and thus excludes owners from using other networks. You can always buy a CHAdeMO adapter and use that to charge on Electrify Canada but the max speed you'll get will be 50 kW. And the adapter is super expensive to buy. Once Tesla opens up their superchargers to other users in North America they might start installing CCS connectors in their future vehicles. PS: my son says thank you!
what's on the market right now in canada that provides fast chargers? petro canada, flo, electrify? do they all charge a price or some of it is free? so I would need to download every app to use each specific charging brand? is electrify canada all across Canada? i plan to travel from Vancouver to Ontario sometime soon.
Right now in Canada we have Petro Canada, Flo, Chargepoint and Electrify Canada. These companies are in most provinces. Then there are some province specific companies like BC Hydro in British Columbia and Coop in the Prairies. Petro Canada and Electrify Canada both accept credit cards at the stations but for Flo and Chargepoint you need an app. Just get the Chargepoint one as it also allows access to Flo. As for the other ones yes they accept cards but many times I've seen the terminals not working and then you need to use an app. So I just decided to always use an app and not bother paying with a card. Plus with Electrify if you sign up for their monthly membership you get a nice discount when you charge.
Electrify Canada is currently only in BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. If you're doing a trip from Vancouver to Ontario then you should also use Petro Canada. They have a cross Canada network all the way from Victoria to Halifax.
Not true. All of the Petro Canada locations are fast chargers. The CCS outputs a max 350kW and the CHAdeMO max 100kW. Now, you're not always guaranteed these speeds (see my Petro Canada review) and it also depends on your car. That being said I've charged with Petro a few times since my review and have gotten better speeds but nowhere near as good and reliable as with Electrify.
Possibly your bad experience with Petro Canada is the software in the KIA not fully compatible with PetroCan software, I would check with your KIA dealer and mention the "concern" and see if there are any software updates to your on-board charging module.
It could be a possibility. I will have to speak with Kia next time I’m in for a service. However, since that review I used Petro Canada on my summer road trip twice and had a better experience. Not as good as the other companies (like Electrify Canada) but at least I didn’t get disconnected on a constant basis. I hope that they can also look into these issues on their end as many other customers are reporting problems while charging. Thanks for your input and I will definitely speak with Kia to see about an update.
Yes, the canopy is a great idea. I wonder why Electrify America didn’t implement the same thing. I will need to go and check these American chargers myself.

This would be the equivalent of BC Hydro where I live. They have 50 and 100 kW units and are always operational and super reliable.

@@LeftCoastEV Rocky Mountain Tesla has videos with similar issues with PetroCan chargers (using tesla with an adapter)
At least this one has a canopy, many of them in the US don't have them. EA also has lots of charging drama from other youtubers.

I have seen many of your reviews and they are very subjective, not comprehensive and you may definitive statements with out a valid test base.
