Afterburn Review, Carowinds Bolliger & Mabillard Inverted Coaster | Cedar Fair's Best Invert
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- Afterburn is the Bolliger & Mabillard inverted coaster at Carowinds. This attraction originally opened during the Paramount ownership as Top Gun- the Jet Coaster, but it was renamed Afterburn after Cedar Fair purchased the park. This is one of the best paced inverts with the lack of a brake-run and 6 forceful inversions.

Afterburn is fantastic. Extremely intense and very smooth. It was a top coaster for me for a while and imo the 2nd best ride at Carowinds
I prefer Copperhead and Fury and sometimes Intimidator.
Afterburn IS a cool name. Carowinds is almost like a "hidden jewel" except to coaster lovers. I can see CF adding another B&M of some kind and pulling this park into the "next" tier. This coaster has a mix of not only forceful looping elements, but those trenches & choppers makes for great riding.
They could use another depth coaster.
I've rode all of the B&M inverts in the US other than Talon and including the Dueling Dragons. Afterburn is the second best behind only Montu for me. The Batwing element is awesome. Back row edge seats are the way to go on this ride!
How does Raptor at Cedar Point stack up among those you've ridden? Cuz I thought it was incredible and it's easily my favorite B&M invert I've done over the Batman clones and Great Bear at Hershey
@@sprawlz6466 I have Raptor 4th of the 19 I've been on. Just ahead of Flight Deck at CGA, and right behind Alpengeist. I think it is better than the Batman clones and Great Bear as well.
@@alantrotter2077 okay so it isn't just me then lol. The drop is incredible, the cobra roll is incredible, the corkscrews are fast as hell, and all the helixes are insane. The pacing is perfect and it's the most intense ride at CP in my opinion.
I wish more inverts had batwings.
This is definitely around the top of my bucket list inverts around the world. It looks so amazing for a ride with only 2,900 feet of track.
Also a fun fact, towards the end of my 8th grade year, our school band played a song called Afterburn at a high school concert and it slapped👌
I agree it packs a lot in for a ride of that length.
It really is a pretty decent ride honestly. It’s underrated. There are plenty of inverted coasters that are better for sure, but it’s a SOLID ride for what it is. Packs a good punch and is never boring. That’s all you can ask for honestly!
My personal favorite invert, including Montu. I love the pacing and sequencing on this ride. I tend to think the smaller scale really suits inverts well, to the point that Batclones are one of my favorite examples of the model. I’ll take a little whippy thing every time with these rides.
The Batman clones are even more intense than this one.
Afterburn was the first B&M invert I ever did, and it's absolutely phenomenal. As of my last visit in 2017, its my second favorite ride in the park behind Fury. So many sustained positive G's and great whip, and I frequently lose my vision on this ride on a hot sunny day. 9.5/10
Nice!
That last row whip is phenomenal!
Good tip of leaning forward on that last inversion to avoid head bang. Which is the only one in the back row. The front has way more. However, an empty train will be really shakey as well
Yes
My favorite coaster in the world
Nice!
Afterburn is my 4th favorite invert. I love the layout and intensity. The fighter jet and other props are a nice touch.
Its also my 4th favorite the pacing isnt as good as montu
It's a strong ride.
I love Afterburn!!!
Me too.
This is undoubtely one of the best inverts, it's #2 behind Montu for me (I haven't been overseas). I love how forceful and smooth this ride is.
It does so much well.
Just got on this for the first time and I really loved it. The batwing lives up to the hype. I slightly prefer Silver Bullet to Afterburn, it gets progressively more fun and intense and I love its finale.
That's a hot take to prefer Silver Bullet, but I think that ride is pretty good outside of the first drop.
Originally themed to Top Gun, I think both Afterburn at Carowinds and Flight Deck at Canada's Wonderland have are inverted coasters with inversions and over the shoulder restraints, but...
The Canada one has bad tracking.
Afterburn is one of my favorite family coasters. I'm only joking, because it was running very slow on my 2021 visit. We finished the batwing, and I didn't even notice that we went upsidedown, and it was quite gentle throughout. They were having problems with how it was running at the time, which is why they struggled to run just 1 train. However, I remember how strong it rode for me in 2018, and I know that is how it normally runs.
I didn't ride this in 2021, but it rode great for me in 2019 and 2022.
I just learned about the potential Godzilla theme a couple days ago, that would have been so odd. The current theming works super well with all the planes flying into Charlotte 😂
Especially on an invert.
Afterburn sure looks like the best B&M Invert. If it it the most intense than it would be absolutely my favorite. The theme is awesome and as It may not have anywhere near the intensity of a fighter jet, its intense for a coaster and even an Invert. That batwing and zero G roll look to make it for me.
It's one of the strong ones.
This ride looks super fun, and probably the second best ride at the park. On a side note though, it is physically impossible to hit 62mph with a 113 ft drop, so the speed provided by the park is most likely incorrect.
Afterburn reaches its top speed after the first vertical loop where it dives underground into a trench leading into an Immelmann.
The exact drop height and elevation change have never been reported, but the lowest point isn't the bottom of the first drop.
Hey, Canobie Coaster! This is one of the only few B&M Inverts to have a boomerang element!
I wish more had batwings.
Afterburn is sick. I think I liked it more than Fury. If you haven't ridden it at night, you need to try it. There's no light in the tunnel and you feel like a bat diving into and out of hell. I marathoned this and decided back row left side was my favorite!
It looked like there were some children that were shorter than the required height that were getting on the ride at one point. They looked a bit traumatized coming back from their journey. It was pretty funny...
I much prefer Fury myself. I hope the riders on Afterburn were the proper height!
This is my favorite B&M invert, and I've also done Raptor, Batman the Ride (SFGAd), Talon, Great Bear, and Alpengeist
Nice!
That model airplane is very cool
I love how it's on the support.
This is such an awesome ride my second favorite in the park well second or third, depending on how copperhead is running I personally found it more forceful in the front though you really get pushed through some of those valleys, making it super forceful, and the sense of speed is far better up there too I will admit the batwing is slightly better in the back
It fits in well.
Afterburn is near perfect. Theming, layout, and intensity is great.
I agree.
This is easily Cedar Fair's best B&M invert imo
Yes
Man this ride is the bomb!!!! It’s a TERRIFIC invert! I always find myself laughing like a demon on this thing! Also I love the theme of the ride
Me too.
This is my favorite ride at carowinds. Don’t get me wrong I like fury and it’s great but I love the inversions and intensity of afterburn
To each their own.
It does look like a great ride. Canada's Wonderland could use a ride like this. It would be really awesome. We already have 3 B&M coasters. I do like the looks of this ride. Neat.
I agree they could.
I prefer Raptor personally as it's just as intense but smoother and has a better layout.
I prefer this layout and smoothness.
couldn’t agree more I do prefer raptor I just like the intensness of it and smoothness and I like raptor more becasue it also was my first invert and it’s awesome!
Afterburn at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina USA 🇺🇲 it's Soul Cool Roller Coaster in the Southeast Untied States.
It's a good one.
I'm about to ride it for the 1st time within 6 days from now and I think I'll like it better than any B&M invert I've ridden except Raptor. However: I think I'd like Montu, Katun and Pyranees and Alpengeist better; Banshee too if it wasn't for the rattle due to soft ground K.I. sits on.
Enjoy! It's a great one.
@@CanobieCoaster Thank you. Every time I do this I can't believe it until it happens. It that just me?
Just went on this 3x. Very intense.
Nice!
Great review! I definitely have to ride this to see if it's as good as Raptor at CP (or even better). And speaking of Cedar Point, I will be going there for a two-day trip with my brother George next week on June 14th-15th. (It will technically be my thirteenth and fourteenth times visiting the park)
And June 14th-15th are both on weekdays (Tuesday and Wednesday) which means that CP will be less busy! :)
Enjoy! Cedar Point seems to be busy a lot of days now unfortunately.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah, but that's only because I visit mostly on weekends. Here's hoping things are a bit different this time.
I agree, sometimes i petend to greyout and if i do its actually enjoyable.
This ride is great.
My favorite invert for a whole year. Then I rode Banshee and had my first major disagreement with Canobie Coaster
Banshee ran great in 2021. My issue with that ride is it can get rougher than the other inverts if you're in the wrong train.
@Canobie Coaster
I like these B&M Inverts (this, Banshee, Patriot, etc) that have unique layouts as opposed to "Batman" clones.
I prefer unique layouts too.
I've been on 5 B&M inverts and Afterburn is #1 followed by DD Fire Dragon, Raptor, Alpengeist, DD Ice Dragon. Unfortunately, Montu was down for rehab during my visit to BGT.
That's a bummer on Montu.
Underrated
Indeed.
I’ve been on this ride a dozen times and for some reason, I keep riding before the wheels get changed. I like it only in the front.
I prefer it in back. Front is good too though.
I love trenches on my inverts. Definately a top tier invert, although I do prefer Montu.
Me too.
i really wish canadas wonderland got a b&m invert like afterburn instead of the horror that is flight deck
Me too.
this was my first roller coaster, and let me tell you it almost killed me haha i had to lean on my friend when i got off (it is really fun though 10/10)
It's intense.
At Carowinds, what do you think about those coasters to ride, Carolina Cyclone, Flying Cobras, and Afterburn?
I really like Afterburn. The other 2 are fine.
the corkscrew is good when you expect it but I almost always forget its there and smash my head lmaoo
It does sneak up on you.
I learned to lean my head to the left and forwards at the right time just after starting the corkscrew. If you lean too early you'll still get smashed because of how whippy it is
Afterburn is a good one but I prefer talon at dorney and the classic raptor at cedar point
I prefer Afterburn to both since it has more power.
I was asking you which restraints does Afterburn at Carowinds use? And do the restraints cause you headbanging on Afterburn, Canobie Coaster?
Hard over the shoulder restraints. Afterburn is smooth.
Some of the teardrop loops look different like the ones on Great Bear
This reminded me of Great Bear's loop.
Can you review Pyrenees?
I don't have any immediate plans. There isn't enough footage available for me to do a good one.
what do you prefer, great bear or this?
This
Where would you recommend what row I sit in this as I’m riding it in October for my first time but I don’t really like positive gs too much but still want to try it out
I'd try the middle.
What's your favorite part of Afterburn at Carowinds? Which restraints does Afterburn at Carowinds use, and do you like the restraints?
I like the batwing best and it has fine over-the-shoulder restraints.
is there headbanging
Not much
prediction: afterburn rider ship will go once the new * not confirmed 2023 flat rides are built
I could see that boosting its ridership too.
I prefer Afterburn over Montu, easily
I'm the opposite, but both are great.
I Greyed Out A Lot On This Ride
No Wonder Why People Say It’s Intense
The snap through the inversions is great.
The corkscrew feels so forceful especially entering into it
Yes
do you like kirby
Kirby is ok. Prefer other characters in Smash.
Do you know what color are the restraints on Afterburn at Carowinds? Do you think they are an issue? They are over-the-shoulder restraints.
Blue Tornado at Gardaland also uses over-the-shoulder restraints. But...
Blue Tornado is rougher.
Originally opened as Top Gun, what do you think about the B&M invert at Carowinds and the Vekoma SLC at Canada's Wonderland? The ride on both?
The B&M is way better.
Would you like to ride Afterburn again? What do you think?
I was also asking you between Afterburn at Carowinds and Blue Tornado at Gardaland. I say that because those two are inverted coasters, a B&M invert and a Vekoma SLC. So if I recommend you riding the two again, what do you think?
Afterburn is great. Blue Tornado is not.
I actually prefer this ride over Montu. Montu may have the trenches and theming, but Afterburn has much better pacing in my opinion. The rapid fire transitions from element to element, make this my favorite B&M invert. The batwing is easily the highlight of the ride for me, especially since the batwing is my favorite roller coaster inversion.
I think Montu has more force and the visuals.
Personally prefer raptor, but it’s still a great ride
I definitely prefer this one.
I was asking you between Afterburn at Carowinds and Blue Tornado at Gardaland because those two are inverted coasters. Afterburn is a B&M invert and Blue Tornado is a Vekoma SLC (765m Standard w/Helix). And seeing in photos and videos, I think both have airplane theming placed between the line and the station. So what would you think about the two to experience?
I won't ride Blue Tornado again, but I like Afterburn.
See in RCDB: Afterburn at Carowinds and Blue Tornado at Gardaland. Based on how they currently run, I recommend you riding the two inverted coasters again. What do you think?
Afterburn is great. Blue Tornado is awful.
See in RCDB: Afterburn at Carowinds and Blue Tornado at Gardaland. Those two are inverted coasters, so try both again. What do you think?
Afterburn is far better.
What do you think about Afterburn at Carowinds, Vampire at Walibi Belgium, Tornado at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, Silver Bullet at Knott's Berry Farm, Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa, Dragon Khan at Port Aventura, Anubis the Ride at Plopsaland de Panne, Flashback at Six Flags New England, Goudurix at Parc Asterix, Scream! at Six Flags Magic Mountain? all that use over the shoulder restraints
Vampire is the only one of those rides I hate.
What's your favorite part of the ride on Afterburn at Carowinds? The corkscrew?
Batwing
How many other roller coasters in the Six Flags chain and the Cedar Fair chain, opened as vast improvements and/or upgrades to their park's previously rough coaster lineup? What do you think?
Goliath at La Ronde and Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland are two that come to mind.
Carowinds, in the 1990s, in Paramount era, had a coaster lineup, and were all coasters considered as smooth or as rough? What do you think?
Their lineup definitely wasn't what it is today. Afterburn was much needed.
This ride was a let down. I don’t think it’s much better than a Batman clone. It’s a far step down from Raptor, Banshee or Montu
I'm sorry it was a letdown.
I personally think it's better than Intimidator. It's extremely intense
I agree it's more intense than Intimidator.
Which restraints does Afterburn at Carowinds use? What do you think about the restraints on the ride? An issue?
Over-the-shoulder restraints. They're fine.
Was this rougher or smoother than Raptor at Cedar Point for you?
Smoother, but both are smooth.
BEST INVERT FROM CEDAR FAIR
Yes
Yeah this ride is really overshadowed by vortex
I much prefer this to Vortex.
@@CanobieCoaster im joking lmao
CAN-O-BEAST!! After Burning the motherbleeping house down, SON!! Woooooo!
Hi!
In the 1990s, when Paramount owned Carowinds, the park had roller coasters, but many of them, like Vortex, Carolina Cyclone, Hurler, were considered as...
A) smooth
B) rough
B is the closest answer.
One thing I noticed is the F14 is really well placed relative to the track. On the camelback, it looks like you're in a dogfight with the plane
It is nicely placed.
Definitely my favorite in the park after fury. It’s just so much fun!
I prefer Fury and Copperhead, but it's a great ride.
I’ve been waiting for this review!
Hope you like it!
its also one of the loudest rides at the park. that roar is incredible
Agree!
Looks great. I think montu will be better (havent ridden it but i might soon)
Montu has even more power.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah, havent ridden afterburn but i have done month
At Carowinds, to ride, what do you think about Hurler, Carolina Goldrusher, Carolina Cyclone, and Afterburn?
Love Afterburn. Not the others nearly as much.
At Carowinds, Afterburn, Carolina Cyclone and Vortex were not placed in your video of top 25 worst roller coasters in the world (2020), but Carolina Goldrusher and Kiddy Hawk were. So if I ask you, why?
Both were uncomfortable experiences with bad layouts.
Which restraints does Afterburn at Carowinds use? Do you like or love the restraints?
What do you think about Afterburn at Carowinds, comfortable ride or uncomfortable ride?
What's your favorite part of the ride on Afterburn, why?
I like the batwing best. The restraints are hard over the shoulder harnesses, but the coaster is smooth so they're not an issue.
So what would you rate Afterburn at Carowinds? Why?
See the review.
What do you think about Afterburn in comfortable or uncomfortable?
Comfortable
