Muay Mat is very much like Justin Gaethjie and allot of Dutch kick boxers, heavey KO punchs and powerful low kicks and they end fights and really good punch and kick combos and are very condition, they are great at boxing.

Probably the most similar style to general MMA striking. Since most MMA strikers just punch and low kick. Not to say there aren’t guys you could name that represent each style.

The way my hips developed it's difficult to throw body kicks. Over time I developed a forward pressure punch heavy style with leg kicks and clinch fighting. I like to press forward and wear my opponents out with leg kicks and clinch fighting then box when they're depleted. So I guess I'm Muay Mat but I also enjoy clinch fighting a lot.
Can i ask you how do you effectively clinch against a taller opponent? Do you use bodylocks a lot? Do you go for throws or do damage on the clinch? Any tip would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I chose Muay Mat because of my predominantly endomorph body type. 186cm/6"1 with over 132kg/290lbs having relatively short legs this seemed the most optimal for me.

I am 185-187cm (not sure) and my reach is exactly 185cm. I weight around 120kg and I am bulky, like I have a lot of muscle on my traps, chest and shoulders (bench press PR 145kg) but also I have a fat belly and fat thighs. I was always thinking for guys like us. We are not short, we are not that tall and lean, what would be the best style for us... Of course we could lose fat if we would compete, but still we are naturally heavy and strong, but still some guys have bigger reach and can be exact strong
@@JVJ_2000My experience is that you need to understand distance. You need to look at your opponent and see if he has long legs or torso. If he has long legs and do kicks you either catch it or if its roundhouse you just temp the time and go in. If they have long torso and long arms they will try to reach you with your jab, whenever they try just throw a low kick, your leg gotta be longer that someones arm, and also use a high guard

Does Muay Mat & Muay Khao styles compliment each other? I gravitate towards keeping the pressure on my opponent and wondering if Knees and clinching will mix greatly with some boxing (liver shots) and lowkicks.
They are very similar, but not identical. Muay Mat includes the elbows and clinch while Dutch KB includes Kyokushin Karate Kicks. But yeah their philosophy is very similar.

Prayuth was one of the most "beautiful" ( no homo ) nak muay in term of physique , they nickname him the white horse for his Herculean like built ( there's several pictures of him online ) , every weapons of him was precise and venomous ( hands , knees , kicks and elbows ) he was never booed even in defeat everybody loves him , he was like today's Buakaw in that no one disliked him . So they fought several time against each other , in that fight Somdej was getting burned feet to neck by Prayuth's kicks , but Somdej just took the pain and punch Prayuth jaw with a right straight the reff counted till 300 second and Prayuth was still down and unconscious ... Grandpa said no one hit harder than Somdej ... later my Grandpa was befriending the legendary Saensack Muangsurin and was even trained by him , to this day when i ask him who hit harder Saensack or Somdej he just stayed still and think for 10 seconds before saying it's Somdej who was a little bit more powerful .
Well dutch fighters fought that way ( late dekkers/ rob kaman/ maybe even hoost etc ) and dominated in kickboxing so we know it as dutch style in the West. you can find people how will tell you that dutch style is more about the combinations and muay mat about the power strikes but it is basically the same thing or at least falls under the same idea.
This definitly my style didnt notice but since ive trained muay thai for mma ive been more comfortable with heavy boxing and low fast kicks I love elbows but I got a stocky buitlt whoch makes it hard for me to throw fancy elbows only can throw basic ones
If you train Muay Thai, is it possible you can create your own version of Muay Thai? For example: Muay Thai mixed with the ancient style of Muay Boran or Muay Thai mixed with Muay Chaiya (correct that) or maybe Muay Thai mixed with BBJ.
Muay Thai is derived from all those styles you mentioned. For example Saenchai uses boran techniques in his fights so you definitely could! For self defense chaiya or boran is better than muay thai though..

Being a western culture they had great appreciation of western boxing and kyokushin was also a fundamental art in its conception. One of the original gyms Mejiro Gym is named after one of the districts in in Japan where the originators studied kyokushin.
Not really. Dutch style is a kick boxing style Which mean no elbows and no Thai clinch and all the trows, trips swept and dumps. But has similarities. When a dutch kickboxer like Ramon decker make the transition to Muay Thai they have to learn how to use elbow and defend elbow and the Thai clinch so end up using a Muay mat style.

Honestly I’m thinking I may have the same issue as you mate I can’t kick very high but I’m pretty good with punches and low kicks
I prefer punching and definitely low kicking only being 5ft 9 but I definitely prefer footwork and feints compared to just walking someone down.

You can tell where the Dutch got the idea of their style as far as using heavy punches and low kicks.
