"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Bestie, Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! Thanks REn, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!
"About Us" is a heartfelt lament of the effects that the Covid pandemic had on the world. The Maids were restricted from performing live concerts and foreign travel because of the total shutdown in Japan. Band-Maid lives to perform before live audience and everything about this performance proved that. It was included in the video, but Saiki gave an emotional speech about their sadness of not being able to see their fans. For those of us who lived through those restrictions after discovering Band-Maid, this song is especially poignant. You should check on "Memorable" by Band-Maid. It was written on a tour bus while the band finally got a chance to tour the U.S. again. They were really scared that their fans had forgotten about them and had abandoned them after a three year interlude. They were surprised about the love and loyalty from their fans during the U.S. tour and Kanami was so moved by that that she wrote the song. It's another mid-tempo Band-Maid rock ballad I'm sure you will enjoy.
It's all about feel. Miku will decide, with Saiki's help, which words should be in English. And she will even sometimes rhyme an English word with a Japanese word. Cool right? Saiki wrote the lyrics for 'Hate?'. She just really liked the way the words, I Hate You sounded in English.
This is what I recommend for anyone thinking they have figured out the Maids. This isn’t a rock band playing their version of a ballad. It’s a group of musicians exercising their artistic powers. Name another band who could pull off “Shambles,” “Black Hole,” “From Now On,” and this beautiful jam. I can’t think of any Maybe Band Maiko would come close 🤷🏻 As far as lyrics, Miku writes lyrics in both Japanese and English. She will work with translators to ensure she’s picked the right words for her poetry and emotions. Notice how she will often even rhyme an English word with a Japanese one. Band Maid includes lots of English words in their songs because they want to appeal to the widest audience possible. This is also why they write a lot of “yeah yeahs” and “la la las” so even if you don’t know any words, you can still sing along.
