  • Here is a video of replacing/restoring the door tops on my Series 3 Land Rover. This task is pretty much the same for the Series 2 and 2a Land Rovers.
Since doing the video I have stopped the scuttle vents leaking. See • How I Stopped My Serie...
The Land Rover is an on the road restoration. It is safe to drive on the road but has needed a lot of work to get into decent condition.

Fitted new door top to my 101 last month after 4 years of rattle and rain. Isn't it great when it's done. Cheers

It must be a common put off job! Just started painting my new frame from Paddocks - they must have either changed supplier or listened to customer complaints as the primer coat was very good on mine. Great hints and tips on reassembly. Cheers

Very informative work, thanks, can you please advise on removing the door tops as this is always the hardest part,my L/R is a 1963 Series 2a 88",and is kept in original so do not wish to replace but to fix the door tops, thanks again and regards from Cyprus.

If you are having trouble removing the door tops you will need to soak the two long bolts that hold the door tops on with penetrating oil. You have to do this daily for a while, possibly a few weeks if they are really stuck to ease the bolts out. Take the doors off and turn upside down whilst doing this to let the oil run down the length of the bolt. You have to be patient with this. I once had the steering track rod end stuck on my Westfield and it took a month of soaking with WD40 to get off. When it finally freed off it was really easy to undo.
I understand your desire to keep things original. I try to as well, but sometimes things are too far gone and have to be replaced if we wish to keep using the vehicles on the road.
      Good luck.

Hello Jack, Yes the fixed window was originally puttied in but I was unable to obtain the correct putty so used the sealant shown.
