@@Jimmy-z2g it wont because pantlaza only discovers on ETB, while a cascade spell stays on the stack. tibalt's trickery needs to counter one of your spells to allow you to cast another.
Ive gone against this deck several times on arena brawl. Its payoff is normally a cultivator colossus that gets as big as they want since the rest of the deck is lands, and just banking on the opponent not having removal.
@@KeganKirby I played this deck in historic brawl, people tend to focus on the cultivator too much and the zombies from field to notice all the taplands are hiding a maze sometimes
@shonmatthew real. To be honest, I never let them finish comboing off and would always just scoop since I was always playing mono green stompy and my only creature kill spells were just nearly useless fight spells.

@@timburgener9004 There's a couple lands you can play that'll help with that, e.g. Mystic Sanctuary (which is an Island and can return Trickery), Cave of Souls (making your commander uncounterable), Mirrorpool (copying trickery if you have extra mana) so it's not like you're guaranteed to lose if somebody's got a counter up. But yeah, interaction makes these types of jank decks much harder to pop off with, thankfully (otherwise everybody would be running this)
magic as a broken game and being easy to win ISNT a new concept but I am glad guys like this are joining the game and feeling the same rush we all did the first time. hopefully they evolve into an actual player tho because this sort of thing is toxic garbage, we all have to go through this phase but Its important to evolve into an actual player.
I've seen a similar idea except with the new pantlaza, sun favored with the discover. Commander is pantlaza obviously, then the deck has 95 lands(filled with stuff like ancient tomb, city of traitors, crystal vein, depletion lands, etc, to cast her faster than turn 5), long road home, creative technique, decree of annihilation and barren glory. You cast pantlaza, discover long road home which blinks pantlaza and brings her back on the end step with a counter so you then discover creative technique, you demonstrate it to get 2 copies and it finds you decree of annihilation which wipes put everything, then barren glory so you win on your next upkeep and nobody has any permanents or cards in their hand to answer it lol.
Another way to do something like this is maelstrom wanderer as commander, with only etali and displacer kitten and nonceature spells with CMC 8 or greater to loop etali
Throw in “mask wood nexus” and every creature you cast becomes a sliver so you get to continue to cascade even more:) it even works for creatures you cast with etali.
This screws yourself over. Maskwood Nexus is less than 5 mana, so you're no longer guaranteed to hit Tibalt's Trickery. Doing nothing for 4 turns just to play The First Sliver cascading into Maskwood Nexus is an atrocious gameplan.

A substantial amount of cards in your deck needs to be creatures for maskwood nexus to have any value, so if you do mull to 0, you probably won't be casting The First Sliver until turn 6 or 7. And finally, even if you get Maskwood Nexus out on turn 4, what would it achieve actually? The gameplan is play The First Sliver, cascade into Tibalt's Trickery countering your own The First Sliver, and then you flip a wincon. At no point will The First Sliver ever enter the battlefield.

Holy shit I played against this deck last night, had no clue what was going on. They resolved the trickery and then scooped so no clue what happened lmao.
The more I think about it, cultivator Colossus would be insane because it lets you power out all of your lands in order to play another 2 or 3 big mana cards the following turn as well
@@jamabr2000 it genuinely isn't. If anything the issue is that they're mostly in blue. Having to observe what interaction people might have makes the game actually have a more interesting layer than largely "who spent more money on their deck"
Probably use something like aetherflux reservoir or tendrils of agony as your win con and figure out ways to still continue chaining spells while having it early in the stack. I might experiment with this now as a troll deck against my friends.
I would add a Bloodbraid Elf and Shardless Agent to act as 2 additional copies of Tibalt's Trickery, and simplify your color requirements, allowing you to go off earlier than turn 5. You could also add some grossness with Mirror March, or a storm finisher.

With no additional card draw, you're looking at a 1 in 92 or 91 shot to hit the other lower-cost cascade spell off of the trickery, and decent enough odds to just hit both on the way through to the Trickery. Having cascade stubs also prevents you from crashing out entirely, if someone has access to a board wipe. You should probably also run a Possibility Storm in here, which also allows you to cash in for massed cascade triggers later, in the event that your first 3 tries whiff, entirely. It forces you to reassess whether or not a storm finisher is a wise endgame, but it's another possible piece that trades consistency, in this case, for robustness, keeping you in the game if someone drops a Flusterstorm on you. Also, Trickery chaining into the lower end of your already high curve makes things kinda rough, as it leaves you having to wait even longer to fire up the chain again, but with people now aware of your entire game plan...
I built this with eternal dominion but then found you you can flat out just win with a mazes end combo on the turn you cast it using primal surge & deserted temple.
Would have loved keruga companion. But tibalt trick does it dirty, channel lots of removal to keep tempo, suspend ramp is good to play teh waiting game, delve also helps accelerating the deck. Also on the removal//cantrips idea adventures are also good to set up
I feel like this could really benefit with impulse draw and impulse draw payoffs a la Faldorn. Only problem is that you want this deck to be stacked with lands ( I assume).
The world tree and its Tribute to the world tree friend, Maskwood Nexus, Gods to ping along including the god of passage to protect, Elvish piper, Braids Conjurer Adept, that and haste enablers to make the etb and swing possible (not sure on the god of passage ruling against a wipe)...*edit piper effects to keep it rolling with minimum mana requirements*

If your using the combo he's talking about, it won't work. The point is the only spell that's less than 5 MV is Tibalt's Trickery. So that's the only thing Pantlaza would Discover, and you couldn't cast it off Discover since there wouldn't be a spell to counter on the stack (normally).
i much prefer first sliver into cascade tibalt trickery into cultivator colossus into maze end and 10+ gates into win (it needs you to mull until you have tibalt trickery and maze end in starting hand)
Ok I must be missing something. When you cascade to Tibalts Trickery, what spell do you counter? Doesnt it just fizzle and then you dont get to mill to one of the other big boy cascade cards?
I prefer the slivers wanna stomp on people with all the sliver lords lol but add profane tutor it's a zero drop tutor add that or hypergenesis if your a monster

Cast first sliver, hit tibalt’s trickery, cast reshape the earth, search 9 gates, maze’s end, and then win next turn
just play a gate before turn 5 and get field of the dead for some extra blockers

Another "hope my opponents don't play interaction" deck.
Cascade is a cast trigger, so even if the original spell gets countered, the cascade trigger will resolve. They need to use Stifle etc. to stop you.

Cultivator colossus. It comes down, all lands go down, now you have a 85/85 to hit your opponents with or win with mazes end!

Nah you counterspell the first sliver so they don't get a 7/7 in play and trickery fizzles
And this is why my table banned any and all counterspells. Boring as hell and frustrating to play against

I have a maelstrom wanderer deck that does something similar. The only cards that cost 3 or less are Combat Celebrant and Vizier of Tumbling Sands.
The commander quarters made this deck ages ago. They used one of the epic spells

Problem with this is if you hit them off tibalt's trickery you brick. Might be a low enough rate to not matter but it does add inconsistency.

its a sliver deck, it wins automatically for being the best type
Verridant rejuvenation + Scholar of the lost trove. Slam at least 5 permanents to emmidiately slam at least seven more

I just do First Sliver Living End. definitely technically doable without slivers but would probably be a pretty rough time
