2021 Harley-Davidson Low RIder S (FXLRS)│Test Ride and Review

- Опубликовано: 14 янв 2021
- The 2021 Low Rider S is back after it's debut in 2020, on the new Softail chassis. The Low Rider S is arguably the most popular cruiser within the Harley-Davidson lineup. This year the motorcycle comes back in mostly the same fashion. The barracuda silver has been subbed-out for a new paint color the Midnight Crimson. Matt and Nick from Laidlaw's Harley-Davidson go into the details of this bike and give some information to consider when comparing this bike to other H-D Models.

Im a simple kid, I see matt laidlaw upload I watch
I'm still a simple kid at age 49. Love this channel as well.
HaHa why complicate things right? Thanks for watching
@@mikeessary4925 49 years young lets go
@@MattLaidlaw damn straight lol and its my pleasure

Thanks Matt and Nick. Once again you guys set the bar for describing the bike honestly and providing great talking points for who you feel the bike is really for. It seems like when i keep looking at the Low Rider S you are talking about my next bike. Keep up great work fellas and ride safely!
Thanks for the vid, it's always nice to see 'my' bike featured. I have a 2020 Lowrider S (in black) sitting in my UK dealer waiting my return to UK July this year. Meanwhile we're fitting the 131ci engine, heavy duty clutch, sundowner seat, pillion pegs and a few other cosmetic changes. Nice to see I'm not 'out of date' before I swing a leg over it. Not that that really matters, this bike is, for me, a 'lifer'.
Awesome in-depth review. Just got my class M for my license and took the riding course from Harley. I was waiting for the 21 models to come out and had my eye on the Lowrider S for awhile. Thanks again and cant wait to take this bike home.
When I see a new Matt Laidlaw video I like before even watching
As usual, great video by Matt Laidlaw and crew. The best thing about this channel is the honesty and factual information. I find the Lower Rider S is one of the best of this model year. I’m not in the market since my old bike still serves me well, but still like to look at new stuff.
Glad I went with Midnight crimson on my 2021 purchase!
That color is cool as hell
Your videos are Stellar Matt”. I’m a big fan of your channel...keep up the great work”
I like your videos because you don't just tell the positives of the bikes. You are honest enough to point out any negatives. Some dealers would never mention a negative because they are so focused on the sale. Good job.
There is definitely no cost cutting on the paint from Harley. That red is on point. If I wasn’t waiting for the Pan America, it would be difficult to keep this one out of the garage.
My first HD was an Iron 883, and the Low Rider S was my next and current bike. I love it. Had to buy the luggage rack, and now it's a great bike for multi-day road trips
Great review guys! To me with a set of soft bags, rack, you can ride it anywhere for 30 years and it will still be cool bike!
I’m 6’2” and 230lbs. Fits me perfectly. Love the power and that monoshock rear end is MONEY! Perfect bike!
Question. Would someone 5'7 180lbs.. be good fit for this bike?
hey dude, great to hear with the nearly same volumes :)) u use the stock bar? I did order bike and 12 inch factory 47 like in video. hope it fits well. a bit arms on or over shoulder. cheers man
@@baseline6786 I'm 5'8 with a 30" inseam and it fits me fine. I have the reach 2up seat on order and gonna see if I like it better but its not needed.
I like how you're incorporating other people into the videos. Amazing video quality too and well rehearsed and read.
Drop dead gorgeous color! Great review and such a beautiful bike!
Great vid and bike. Low rider fan from the beginning.... and glad they brought back the newer Lowrider S!
My biz is also in Baldwin Park. Enjoy recognizing the town on your test rides 👍🏼 Keep on keepin’ on.
I bought my first Harley ever last year and I went straight for the low rider s, I’m 5-7 and never riding a Harley so I have nothing to compare it to, but I love it I installed the bassani radio sweeper exhaust and it sounds amazing and feels great!!!
Best LRS review I’ve seen! Appreciated
Thanks Matt & Nick. Love this scoot and color!!!
Great review Matt. Cheers from Italy
Great video production. Kudos to you two. Think they should come out with more color options when released for a new year.
Haha sick photography right in the first two seconds! Reminded me of your awesome original video introducing the Low Rider S, with that gray one on the hillside! Sick video.
Thank you! We are trying to up our videography game.
That Midnight Crimson is really nice color. Great video guys.
I bought a 2020 Lowrider S in 2019, I love the bike, yes I have added things to it, Stage 2 kit, 2 into 1 exhaust, saddleman seat, bags, and the road warrior fairing. I am very happy with the look of the bike and the performance.
I fell in love 😍 with the low rider S since the Dyna days.... it’s the reason I got into riding, currently my iron 883 is serving me great 👍.... but eventually the Low Riders S is my goal 😃
sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my login password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Maximo Quinn Instablaster ;)
Wow, that's a great video.
I love the design of the bike.
You look so cool when you run.
I'm glad to see your great channel again.
Always stay healthy.
👍👍👍🤝🤝🤝🤙🤙👌
Thanks again for another video. The colour midnight crimson is nice to see, and good ride out too.
Best Harley channel IMO
Thank you!
"imo"....lol,.....
kinda unnecessary, of course its your opinion, youre the one saying it 🐒🐵
Best review I’ve ever heard. Nov 23, looking at a low rider S. Thank you
Get it. You’ll like it.
I just bought a 2021 low rider s today. This comment is for reference, it's my first HD and I'm soooo stoked! Merica 🇺🇸💪
So...where we at? :)
@pjdiver3 thousands of dollars of upgrades in. Thats where we're at 🤧🍻
Great video guys, with lots of great info. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Good advice...I think if you can think through your choice you’ll probably be happier but I’ve also found riding the bike helps even more than thinking about it😎
I love the way you introduced the Low Rider S 114, the first time I seen this ride. I fell in love serious business. I will be honest I have checked out the Sport Glide I like the 2021 S.G. I will be doing hwy riding and some in town cruising.
Great job Matt.
I love how you guys are using the LiveWire to help film. That's genius.
The best filming bike out there!
Tbh the Laidlaw crew are killers in terms of quality of videos.
Its amazing how they have made huge progresses since 2 3 years.
I hope Harley sees that and understand they probably are one of their best advertising vector on YT.
Yeah buddy, get it in! Those new Softy Lows are the business and being an 02 Night Train owner it's so refreshing to hear that the new ST frame is the best handling frame to date after 20 plus years of Dyna Bros rubbing it in haha. Also, I feel bad for the hater's, they have know idea what they're missing, including a rich history and long standing community brought together by the most beautiful bike in the world, Mr. Harley Davidson. Great video Matt.
Crushing it as always Matt - I’m still going to miss that barracuda silver though
Yeah I love the silver also put that with a stainless steel bassani pipe beautiful!
Oh hey there :)
This bike looks great, love this new midnight crimson color
Thanks Brother
@@MattLaidlaw Saw 2021 SG & RG Specials the on the website...nice that they are offering chrome AND blacked out for all colors, but what's with the crash bars? They look significantly smaller.
Dude thanks for these vids. I’m a tall guy 6/4 and I’ve worried about sizing and bikes this was really helpful from a giant man😎
Still one of the coolest looking bikes running around today. Love my '23 LRS 117. Extremely happy........
Matt, you videos get better and better. Just like HD.
On point, both of you. All legitimate reasons and another great overview on the Low Rider S. Love it! Coming from a sport bike that would be my choice for sure. If they would ONLY have it in Denim Black:) But, vivid black its good enough. Awesomeness
This is a good move for HD. I personally like the touring bikes. My son had the low rider s with the 110 he loved it.
Thanks for the review!
Excellent review really like the look of that bike will be visiting my dealer for a test ride may trade in my 2009 fatbob cool thanks Matt👍🇬🇧
Great reviews guys....lots of good information
Yeah it's definitely a great looking bike... but I absolutely love my Fat Bob and have zero regrets. Wouldn't trade it for anything!!
What are the pros and cons w the fat bob? I’m torn between this and a fat bob
@@GODSWORD11 To be honest, there are very few cons with the Fat Bob. Maybe the two things I'd mention if I'm getting picky, the stock tyres are not great and sometimes in a sharp corner it wants to stand up a little but not in a big way. The other thing which is a personal preference I'd prefer the speedo on the handle bars as opposed to the tank. These are small things and can be fixed if you really want to. Butt just head to a dealership and test ride both, You'll soon see what you like
@@saulgoodman1390 thank you so much for your response, sir.
Great video, guys. Been wondering about the forks.
Nice video as always guys! Would love to see a review of the new Street bob 114 tho! Cheers
The information in your videos is SO valuable. Thank you. Wish you were in Texas.
with the color matched bags on the sportglide, i think the lowrider s will have competition for a top seller this year
He's a good salesman for you matt....good knowledge and good explanation from him...nice and good review..
Very nice explanation of all the different lines
I love the S series with the improved HP and performance.Ill be looking seriously at this model.
Mobbin' the Low Rider S 2021...Wow !
Just bought my first bike and I got a 2021 Low Rider S. I didn’t want to trade in my bike after a year or so, so I got what I wanted. I love it.
Went from a dyna fat bob to a Softail street bob to a low rider s. I loved my ugly fat bob. The street bob was an improvement. The fxlrs has everything the street bob was missing. Harley out did themselves with the new low rider s. They packed in that much performance and technology without loosing the Harley feel. It handles like a heavy sport bike.
ive got a sportster and i love it although i dont get to ride it as much with the crappy weather in britian although i will say i love the look of this bike and if i ever get tired of my sportster this is one id go for. great review boys
Just bought me a 21 lowrider S and its amazing!!! I went from a 2019 iron 1200 stage 1 and I didn't want to loose the nimbleness of the iron. The lowrider S is the sporty on steroids!!!! I'm in love obviously 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. Sickest bike ever!
Hell yea man. Enjoy.
@@MattLaidlaw Thanks Matt! It's winter here in Reno and I'm still getting as much riding in as possible but when summer comes??? Look out!!!
You do a great job with all your videos. I was torn between the LRS and Fat Bob. Ended up with the FB, but sometimes regret the decision! The Fat Bob is an awesome bike, but the 3.6 gallon tank is an issue! Thanks for sharing!
Im glad I got a silver 2020, sad to see the color already taken off the lineup
Not going to lie, I heard about the Fxlrs about early January. And even with the release of the 2022 low rider S, I was just more in love with the 21 version. And I'm glad I got one of the last few brand new 21'S
Great video Matt & Nick.
The Dana and lowrider S it’s definitely a bad ass bike! But I’m glad I went with the Softail Slim S. Because I don’t see them around a lot. A rare breed! Lol
Believe it or not a lot of people don’t even know about the slim and especially the Slim S. I always get a lot of props it also turns a lot of head! People are always asking me what bike is that..? Feels cool to have a not so popular bike. 🤘🏻😎
I’m currently riding a CRF450L. I’m keeping it in full offroad trim so I’m looking for a cool, sleek, comfortable , powerful street bike . I want to rip it up , but also drop back and relax .
When you said “spirited riding “, that’s what I’m looking for . My old school bearded friend my fathers age introduced me to this bike .
I’ve been going back and forth between fatbob and this low rider S . Great video .
This would probably be a perfect balance of cruiser and ripper for you.
Which bike is right for me?? That one right there!! Love that color, it really sets off the wheel color. 2021 will be the year I add that bike to the garage collection........ Thanks for the review!
Great write upon one of Harley's best bikes!
I’m very glad the MoCo didn’t change anything on our beloved FXLRS. The Midnight Crimson is sick! My ‘02 FXDL is gonna be jealous when that ‘21 comes home later this year. Yes sir Matt, I’m pulling the trigger before they change or cancel anything else.
Thanks for the video review with all of the detailed pros/cons. I would have not thought to swap the Heritage rear shock in it and would have most likely paid much more for the aftermarket.
gorgeous bike for sure, i'm coming off a 13' Kawasaki Versys 650 which I LOVED but was looking for something more comfortable with more power, I sat on one of these down at Daytona Bike Week this year and it felt SO good on me (I'm 5'11") I knew it would be my next bike, deposit is down and hoping to have it by mid-August, got the Black as I hate the color Maroon haha Super excited! Great review, I like the honesty and it was done very well!
Good informative video, a tad long but good. I think this bike would make an excellent platform for an updated FXDXT which was a real riders motorcycle for those that didn't want the heft a touring bike but still needed functionality. Also although the gauges look great on the tank mounting them behind the nacelle would really by much more functional and I think is one of the number one complaints of this bike. I also find it funny that this bike only has 30 degrees of cornering clearance meanwhile back in 2001 my FXDX had 34.5. The problem is what makes a good bike and a bike that sells are totally different. Since you seem really dedicated to the brand maybe you could pass some suggestions along to the higher ups. Thanks
Good video and I like the bike. I would still like you to talk on what’s not coming out and what you thinking is the future of H-D.
Thanks, Good review
Southern california yes, we have Snow Here , my Harley is aging in my Garage
Snow and ice….I’m so over it….😕
Another great video! Thanks!
1. If my FXDL died and went to heaven it would come back as this iteration. Killer!
2. I've said it before, I'm a sicko and would love to see the square headlight as an option.
3. Can we take a moment and appreciate how perfect the LiveWire is as a chase bike? I can't wait to see how that bike evolves as they improve the technology. Great job as always Matt and Nick
i have a 07 dyna i think these bikes have alot of potential do want one
Thanks for the video. I watched beginning to end. Very informative. If I can rewind back time, I shoud've gotten the LRS but instead I bought the Sportster Forty-Eight (which is also a very good bike).
Enjoyed this review. I love the versatility of my Low Rider S. You mention quite a bit about “guys” wanting/needing things. Don’t forget women ride too!
I love how you guys stress that riders get the bike that best fits their riding needs, versus the biggest sales profit margin! 👍
We play the long game here. Getting people on the right bike for their needs is a big part of that.
Agreed!
Loving the new Midnight Crimson
It's funny how I would go to California (fromt Texas) to buy a motorcycle from Matt and not my local dealership. Keep up the good work Matt, one day soon I'll be over to buy a motorcycle from yall.
Come on down! We’d love to help you out!
I just love my 2020 low rider S. Best bike I ever had...
They are hard to beat
Does the low rider s have cruise control
@@m.garcia2353 no it hasn't...
@@m.garcia2353 not from factory but is available from hd
@@m.garcia2353 it's an easy add on. Probably $300.00 to $350.00 counting labor.
Excellent use of the LiveWire as your chase bike!
If you are cramped on this bike.... a different seat will sort the issue... I have a seat from whiplash and it basically moves me back an inch... I’m 6.2 ....I love this bike. Ex-sport bike rider.
I’m the same height. Thinking about this bike but didn’t ride one yet. One of my main concerns was having to put forwards on it right away..
@@jaredwehr1431 if you are going to put forward s on then it’s the probability buying the wrong bike as that setup negates the sporty capabilities ... I have a heritage OEM shock on mine and it raises the back of the bike maybe an inch...you steer the bike with your but cheeks as apposed to most other Harleys... it’s a great handling bike. I would recommend putting bung king highway crash bars instead if you are looking for that forward feel. It is more in keeping with the So Cal Club style bike that this bike is.
Not many people talk about the sport glide I believe it's one of the most versatile bikes imo. You can ride it with bags and fairing or strip it down in 2 mins and have that raw stripped down look. The sport glide should have had the 114 option though
I saw it in alesso's music video "I wanna know"
Since then..it's my favourite..and now that i am earning...i want this bike so madly
The fat bob would look awesome in that red color 🖒 can't wait to see that color in person, still believe the s models should come with the 117... then the s has meaning...
Hey Matt, excellent video.
I've a Fat Bob 2019. Are any of the larger gas tanks in the Softail or Touring range, i.e. larger than the Bob's, able to be fitted on to the Bob?
There are two HD's I'd have in the UK. The Lowrider S and the FatBob, both with forward pegs. This is a mixture of our narrow twisty roads suiting the steeper rake and my 6'5" (196cm) frame needing the leg room. I really love the idea of all that down low power though. Also that midnight crimson is stunning, the red Fatbob is nice but this is on another level.
Sir I have taken exception to your remarks about the 88 twin cam. At the time the 88 was a big step up from the EVO power. Now with a stage one and a good aftermarket exhaust power improves just like all Harleys. If you go to a stage 2 with a good cam the 88 tc steps up power to a very respectful level. If you go to a big bore kit 95 the twin cam becomes a beast. It's short stroke makes rpms much quicker. It almost turns the 88 twin cam into a drag racer. I like the M8 but of all the twin cam motors I like the 88 best bang for the buck.
Damn i wanna trade my deluxe for this now. Maybe. No. Great video guys
great video . i'm in the market for a bike for longer rides but i'm going to be in trouble if the Heritage doesn't come in Midnight Crimson and there's a LRS on the showroom floor when i go shopping !
Can you do another heritage review soon? I need that updated perspective on it
I bought a Low Rider S as my first bike so I'll answer honestly as I only ever rode 250cc bike in the MSF course. Is it possible for a beginner to ride this and be ok? Yes. Is it the most sensible? No. Ideally, I wanted to start on something smaller to increase my skill quickly and then upgrade, but the financial impact of that just makes it a pain in the ass, you'll essentially be losing out a few thousand when you trade the sportster back in for a FXLRS in 6 months. I just decided to risk it and i'm happy I did.
Matt and Nick are so experienced they probably don't know what trips up beginners with this so i'll say it: slow speed maneuvers. The first day I picked it up was 25 miles north of Austin, in the pissing rain, on roads I didn't know with no GPS. Definitely felt some adversity but the bike handled amazing and I made it home despite flooding conditions which is a riders nightmare. I learned the friction zone and throttle have to be mastered quickly. That might seem basic to people that have ridden before but a 250cc bike is 100 times more forgiving to clumsy inputs, something which new riders, including me will make. The FXLRS pulls like a train in 1st gear and a few times at the start it will pull you out of a lean and straighten you up easily running you wide, you have to beware with that. The clutch comes on strong at the end and so use smooth, light inputs with minimal throttle until you are used to how it takes off. I went to a parking lot with no one around and just rode around practicing the turns. The handling and the breaks are great, and at high speeds it feels like a dream. That said, you have to respect the machine, go easy and learn what its capable of because as well as learning the bike, you are learning situational awareness and the behavior of other riders on the road. Turns come up quick, cars behind you come up quick, gravel and inclines come up quick, and if you live in a 4 story parking lot you are going to need to learn the friction zone with rear break turning up inclines, then slowing the bike down enough on a turn coming back down. Just things you don't think about until you face them and being on a 650lb bike you can't muscle yourself out of a mistake like a light bike.
Overall, the bike is amazing and I would have bought one from these guys had I still been in LA, just be careful until you learn how to ride it. Don't bother with a sportster if you are willing to to be conservative, practice and ride outside of peak hours to get better. Put crash bars on to put your mind at ease.
Sorry for the long winded post but as someone who spent forever deciding on whether to get this bike as a newer rider I hope to help those that are feeling the same way.
I’m currently 16 can’t wait till I can finally buy a low rider s
fell in love with this bike, i'm thinking about getting a low rider s 2022, but i really love the midnight crimson color. hope they gonna do more color variants with the 2022 models :/
Bought my first Harley guys....2022 Low Rider S Gunship grey. No regrets. Just did my 1,000 mile service. Purrs like a lion
Very nice. Great bike. Enjoy 🤙🏼
Update...Bike still hauls arse! Loving it! Keep doing what you're doing! You inspire ✨️
Matt do you guys ever get famous people for customers? Musicians ect..
Love the channel!
Mine is at Harley getting the 131 kit fitted ,looking forward to picking it up next week
Nice man. Hang on tight
My favorite Harley just looking at it. I test rode one and damn it was uncomfortable for me. I’m thinking forward controls and a seat putting me in a bit of a different position would fix it.
I own a 2018 Heritage only because there was no 2018 Low Rider s it serves me well only wish they made a club fairing that fit passing lights uggg. Could also benefit from the front dual disks as well ,
I really liked the silver but the midnight crimson looks good too
great video, very nice work, i really enjoy watching your videos
i think i ma one of many who started harley riding with an Iron 883 and after couple of years changed to the Low rider S (both Black)
the Low Riser S offers many advantages mentioned in the Video, but i think i would like to add some parts to make it fit to my riding style. parts for Stage 1 performance + forward controls and pullback risers are bein installed now
