Michael Owen Jackson arranged And he shall purify and he was in the Lynwood Adventist Academy Lynaires when I was a freshman in 1984. Supremely talented and gone far too soon. Miss him greatly! Glad that Mervyn and all the Take 6 guys did this! So great! In constant rotation of my Gospel music even now.
I met MOJ at Oakwood University. He was introduced as the real MJ!! He played some breathtaking stuff I wish I had recorded. Do you know anyone who has any recordings of hm playing. He and MW played some stuff I heard too which was quite interesting!!
Thank you for this. I play various cuts from this epic album all year. The Clark Sisters with Commissioned! Bomb! Please, some conversation about those groups and the process leading to the song. I grew up in a Hispanic American Pentecostal Church where we sang in Spanish and sprinkled in the occasional Black Gospel selection, and since the Clark Sisters and Commissioned were also from Pentecostal Holiness Churches, we counted them as OURS too. So much love for them. They were pioneers in creating a whole new sound and audience for grounded Gospel. Again, thank you!!!
I remember talking to Mervyn after a concert that he did with Take6 at Morgan State University in Baltimore just before he left the group. When i asked him what was he planning, he spoke about his interest in reimagining Handel through the eyes of African American music. I thought that was an amazing goal, but the Messiah is held in such high regard, i didn't fully understand how he would even take the first bite of that huge project, musically, lyrically, vocally or philosophically! Several years later, I was in a Christian bookstore looking for some fresh music for my church and i stunbled upon the CD! What can say? Mind totally blown and the entire project gets played throughout the year every year! ",And He Shall Purify....!❤
Patiently awaiting the Documentary!! Patti Austin, The incomparable Daryl Coley AND V. Bell-Armstrong, Tramaine Hawkins (And He Shall Purify…OMG!) to The Clark Sisters, Harlem Boys Choir to Richard Smallwood, Dianne Reeves, and so many other greats!! This masterpiece should have been performed L-I-V-E! Additionally, this project should be RE-mastered to reflect Dolby Atmos and /or Spatial Audio…pretty please Mervyn.
Awesome event and most appreciative and proud of the impact Oakwood College, my Alma Mater, now Oakwood University had in bringing together the 2nd generation of Alumni’s children, which led to Mervyn, Tony and Claude coming together and intersecting with Quincy, Tevin, Will, Gail to bring us this awesome Album, my favorite Christmas album, that I can play year round and get the same esthetic reaction to the musical genius of voices, arranging, producing and engineering talent to create this album. Thank you
I have been singing Handel’s Messiah since I was a teenager in school choirs. I actually bought & listened to the entire vinyl set of albums several times. The same for “Handel’s Young Messiah” (1990) CD…then came “Handel’s Soulful Messiah” 1992. For the last 32 years that recording is played for the whole month of December in my home or car. I have bought CDs for my nephew/niece’s family to have for their Christmas Day music in their homes with my grandnephews/grandnieces to hear. A shout-out to Tony Shepperd from Riverside, CA. 👋🏽
Right?! Whether it does turn into a documentary or he just wants to upload all that raw footage, I will watch every second of it! 🙌🏾 What a masterful body of work.
Fabulous !! I still have my 'Messiah' CD that I bought when it came out, and I listen to it at least every Christmas and Easter season. I also still have the first TAKE 6 CD issued in the late 80s, and "A Quiet Place" remains the ultimate track that still thrills me every time I play it.!!
A great presentation of a timeless classic both the Soulful version and original. Fascinating insights from today's musical masters that will inspire generations of musical talent.
Thank you for this 🎶 Merry Christmas ✝️ But Mervyn not listening to this album in over 20 years and Claude having never listened in its entirety is mind blowing 🤯
Now, I see why he left Take 6. Initially, i thought it was for some arrangement problem. When you have 2 great arrangers in one group, it’s difficult to create space tp explore their greatness. But I see that M W wanted to do a lot of things he didn’t have time to do touring with Take 6
Thank you all for this. I never stopped playing Hansel’s Messiah A Soulful Celebration since it came out in 1992.
Same here! I cannot get But Who May Abide the Day of His Coming out of my head and spirit.
I listen to this masterpiece every year during the Christmas season and in between! Just a work of art!
Thank you all for doing this! This album ranks among my all time favorites and will forever be a classic.

@ check Sybil Beaulu. She was in the Michael Jackson Singers
I went to LAA looooong time ago. You probably went there with my kids.
@ class of 87
@Jaycee37 I've felt like 👍🏿 that they've passed the torch 🔦 to Mervyn

That’s the way Daryl Coley was. A magnificent great talent gone too soon. R.I.P.
Absolutely Daryl! My husband washes just a phenomenon voice and then Vanessa omg!!!!!
Thank you for doing this. This is one of my favorite albums to listen to, especially during Christmas.
Really great giving a shout-out to Thomas Whitfield.
Love the story about Vanessa Bell & Daryl Coley

THIS ALBUM HAS BEEN A STAPLE IN MY LIFE FROM IT'S INITIAL RELEASE, AND REMAINS ON MY PLAYLIST TO THIS DAY! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much for posting this. Music Nerds need more of these 🎶

Would love to hear about the Clark Sister/Commissioned collaboration
I am so happy to see this!!!!! Loved Take 6! Love the genius of Mervyn Warren. A masterpiece work.
Thank you for tuning in! We appreciate you letting us know how much you enjoyed this special event.
This is probably one of my top 3 favorite Holiday albums….play it repeatedly every Xmas season since its inception….
It was a musical game changer!
A great presentation of a timeless classic both the Soulful version and original. Fascinating insights from today's musical masters that will inspire generations of musical talent.
A Christmas classic. Simply amazing.
The sounds that inspired us and continues to.
Thank you 🙏🏽
❤❤❤❤❤
Incredible production. Timeless!
this is Amazing and Inspiring 🔥

Greetings from Argentina. Love Mev Warren Music.
O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion was arranged by Cedric Dent
#THANKYOU ❤️🇱🇨!!!
He’s such a genius!
Genius defys time
I wanna know, if Qunicy Jones were alive to see 👀 this, I wanna know what he would say???
i know my redeemer liveth is my favorite tevin campbell song, period.
Yea, thats my favorite track on the album vocals on it are insane and the arrangement is just so good !!!
For sure! If Tevin never sings another note in his life, he sang that song !!!!

Give to the Seventh Day Adventist Church Organization some credit for operating Oakwood University.
