Well the comedic climate was way crazier back then. I don’t think Shane’s controversial jokes came from a place of hate, but ignorance. And he’s shown more and more remorse for it as the years go by because he’s been growing as a person. Honestly I don’t think he was ever racist. The culture of comedy at the time was to stretch the boundaries. The absurdity of the obvious exaggeration is what made it funny. I think people that are trying to be hurtful are doing things in a mean spirited and harmful or violent. I don’t think he ever did that. Is it distasteful and unacceptable in the current cultural climate. But honestly look into all 80s through early 2000s comedy. Everyone would be cancelled. I think he learned why it’s hurtful.
