Greetings, I stumbled across RUclips searching for information on Dante and your video is very helpful as it is similar to the application I have in mind for my setup. The question I have is; How well can your external hardware be used similar to a plug-in? Also is it more advantageous to route each hardware device individually to the network? For example I have a 1073 routed into a distressor in my vocal chain. If I route them individually to the network and utilize the virtual mixer to route them can I expect the same results? Thanks
Essentially, yes you can as long as they are single devices, but not from one channel “out” to an “in” of the same multi-channel device. Hope that makes sense… I am using a lot of 500 series where you can link (in most units) between channels to create a chain, and then send into DAW. I am about to do a vid of the use of Dante for outboard, from DAW… watch this space. The routing is the main reason I have used Dante.
What input and output sensitivity do you have set on the dante avio adapter on the Neve 1073? I want to use these on the Rupert Neve Masterbus Processor, is the audio quality not affected in any way?
Not 100% sure what you are after. The 1073OPX has selectable headroom of +18/24/26 (I have it on the 18), but the Avio has no sensitivity as it purely provides a transition from the analog out on any device output into the dante network, where it can be routed to one or more locations, or if the avio is an output adapter, then into some output such as a monitor controller, amp, hardware input etc The converson on the audinate products is excellent. All products with dante will have audinate chips. So any input /output levels or sensitivity is set on the sending/receiving device. Apologies if this is information you already know, and obvious. The workflow of Dante has transformed how I work, so I would strongly recommend. Thanks
The latency is listed as 4ms through computer. Its unclear if this is roundtrip. Realistically, I am unable to notice any delay with monitoring, however, delay may be worse with plugins engaged. I recently recorded a guitarist DI’d in and we were using Logics own amp sims, and again it was fine and the artist had no issues. This was all on my mac mini 2014 16Gb with a quick SSD - some would regard as an old computer. Not sure what processor -i5 I think. Hope that helps…
Thanks, that gives me some hope of my Avid Thunderbolt gets unsupported. Figured since A I’d quit selling it, the lifespan is shortened for support…smile.
Nice video! Just a question? How are you plugging the Dante into your computer? Via the switch or do you have a Dante device? Sorry if this is a dumb question lol
Not a dumb question at all. I plug it into the ethernet port on my mac mini, or USBC ethernet port on my macbook. The dante virtual soundcard software picks up the data (you select the ethernet port in the settings of the software). Hope that helps explain.
One more question if I may 🙋🏻♀️ Does this set up basically omit the need of A/D converter going into the computer? Just curious how good the quality going in is

@@tmmmusicstudio Thank you.

Just curious about the latency and if it is low enough to monitor and track via the DAW output? Thanks.

I should note this was through my Neve 1073 OPX

Ethernet Cable to computer is from the ethernet switch in rack
