TOP SPEED TESTING. Custom Race Tractor Pre-War Racecar Style. Crazy Back Road Drive.

- The Hot Rod Tractor is a custom-built vehicle that is far from your typical race mower. I see it as more of a car than a mower or tractor. the spirit of the design is based on pe-war race cars of the 1910s through the 1930s. In an effort to get more speed out of it, we are swapping to a Spicer 6 speed transmission with different gear ratios and sending it down a twisty road with absolutely no brakes. Let's see how that goes.

You need a white scarf blowing back in the wind, like Snoopy wears whenever he flies his dog house.
Hahaha, that's great. That would definitely fit the vibe of this machine.
Well done, she looks as great as it sounds. Looks like it would be right at home climbing Pikes Peak in 1935! Absolutely love it!
Thank you. I'm glad you said that. That's the vibe I was going for with the build. I always wanted to refer to it as the "Pre-war Grand-Prix Tractor" but that's a bit much to fit in a RUclips title lol. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it
Your faith in those front wheel bearings is deeeeeep 😂
Bet the steering geometry keeps it interesting 😮
Hahaha, yeah, I never give it a second thought. I used to run rear 3/4 keyed bore mower wheels on the front. Just grease with metal on metal. I actually put probably 50 or more miles on that setup with routine sustained 40mph for 3 mile drives. However, I never pulled actual cornering Gs with that setup. I'll definitely be doing trailer idler hubs eventually. I also want to add some caster to the front axle. It does drive very well for how it's set up, but caster should improve the high speed stability tremendously.
@@DieselFuelNetwork - it definitely looks like it would be twitchy on the high side.
Would a custom chain drive rear axle be stronger and more reliable?
That thing is absoloutely psycho!
Hearing you shift this thing is pure joy to the ears !!
😁👍 🚜💨💨💨
Love the video as always, but you gotta get a helmet my man
With no brakes, maybe it's best not to wear a helmet. Darwinism. Plus, the quality of life after crashing might not be worth living. 😂
Thank you. I appreciate your concern. I will certainly consider wearing one next time. Thanks for watching
@@JickJackJake I won't reply to that the way that I want to, because a return viewer will always get my respect. So all I'll say is, thanks for watching 👍
@DieselFuelNetwork no matter. l'm not thay sensitive. I would say that to my best of friends, but not as polite.
No brakes? Being dangerous isn’t cool. So many things could go wrong
This machine is dangerous with or without brakes. It should be obvious that it slows down quickly with engine braking and shifting down. I've been doing this long enough to know the limitations of the machine and have never in over 15 years had to use the brakes when driving one on the road. Pulling it down a couple of gears will literally lock the tires. No one said it was cool not to have them. And btw, do you know how youtube works ?
@@DieselFuelNetwork You don’t gotta so defensive thats how I know I’m right and still what if you need to come to a sudden halt? And thats not even street legal so you have no say in asking “do you know how youtube works?” You sound ridiculous. And what does knowing how youtube works have anything to do with YOU PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK!? You are so confident in engine braking and you probably disregard safety and laws. Not the brightest youtuber.
@James12554 I thought my response was technical and to the point. No laws were broken here. A Lawn Tractor can travel on the road legally. Confidence comes with experience. My remark about youtube is in regards to the fact that putting "no brakes" in the title gets people's attention. I don't mean any disrespect towards you, I just think if you don't like what you see, then don't watch.
@@DieselFuelNetwork Yeah I still think having brakes would be better but after all its your stuff and safety.
@@DieselFuelNetwork Yeah I saw the title, I’m not blind. Sure the video was great and everything me being concerned does not mean I don’t wanna watch the video (I kinda just quick viewed it anyway). Being safe is important (I know you know) try not to risk it more and more, its not worth playing with death.
At around the 44:04 mark, I was waiting for the sonic boom when you broke the sound barrier. Really like your channel! Look forward to your videos.
You sure have a lot of nerve now that said are you running dual carburetors or would a custom intake and single barrel automotive carburetor help. 😊
Super sweet build man. This got me fired up to go cut my mower up now.😂
how did you make the header for the vtwin i have a kohler are they the same bolt pattern and spacings?
Wow I’m impressed hell of a rig you have there definitely looks like a wild ride
Awesome machine! how did you make the tach work?
I love the sound of this machine! I'm waiting for new episodes :D
Thanks. There's definitely plenty more that I want to do with it. And I have another build planned as well. Thanks for watching
How are you shifting gears? Does it have a clutch or? I’m just very curious
The transaxle is belt driven. The clutch releases tension on the belt. It can also be shifted without the clutch as well.
and 72yrs. old and come on young ones out there keep your heart and minds in the right place and not just on greenbacks.
INTROS SUCK!!!, JUST SAYING BUD, OTHER THAN THAT COOL!!
Thank you. I actually hate intros. Like the ones that are the same in every video and you have to skip through. In my videos, I refer to the first bit as the "teaser shots." it's only what's to come in this video. I honestly feel that it increases the chance someone will watch. The actual beginning where I'm moving the tractors in the garage just seemed way too boring. But thanks for giving me some feedback, and I really appreciate you watching.
Diesel what do ya do when ya trade with a person like me I traded my 86 vette to this middle age boy and he's supposed to bring Mr a nice running 99 ford ranger.sport and a Kubota tractor with a loader that supposed to run good and a double axle trailer 6'4"×16' trailer with steel gate and 4new tires and rims fir the truck and the title for the trailer and he started over here and had a flat on the road with the trailer and ge called us and we went and the rim was still on the trailer but the tire wasn't no were to be seem and the tractor didn't run and the truck misses in idle like crazy and he didn't have the 4 new tires for the truck with him nor the title for the trailer and I had already signed the title over to him and he already had my vette title and he already gave me the title to the truck and said he'd bring me the title to the trailer and the 4new tires and rims for the truck and he hasn't yet brought them yet and I've texted him and texted him and yesterday he brought a 22 pistol over here waving it around and today I texted him and told him that she sent pics. To our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters and she had sent all those text were he promised to trade all those things to us fir the vette and bring it all to us and he's not supposed to be around guns and I told him even I a man of GOD I'm a ordained minister and he still hasn't brought them yet or got ahold if us yet and he's already drove my vette out of the driveway that I have been slowly restoring all these yrs. but I needed a tractor with a trailer so I sacrificed my vette and this punk boy that even didn't serve in the service and doesn't work is thinking he's getting away with ripping me and her off and his name us Glenn Cody Parker and he lives in silver springs, fl. in the forest corners just down past the library road and what he said but I wrote to ask you cause he's around d your age and you ain't that way so do ya know what's wrong with him that vette wasn't just mine it was hers to it just isn't right what's going on these days cause we haven't never did this to anyone in our entire lives. Period.u
Huh?
Sounds like someone was lacking in the sense and street smarts area.
@Sludge73 we just took him at his word we born and raised old school not punk style we weren't in a self conceded world like it is today and we're real country folks not city slickers of yesterday or today the world is just to funny and it doesn't have nothing to do with street smarts it has to do with what kind of person is inside of you. Period.
I did notice that 6th and 5th on my MST are basically identical
Yeah, that was always something that annoyed me about the MST. The MST I had before the one I have now, I actually chipped 5th gear, so I put 6th in its place and just added a spacer to make it a 5 speed. This eliminated that issue. But I like this Spicer a lot more. It has perfect spacing in every gear. We'll just have to see how it holds up to abuse.
Very informative and otherwise great video!!!
Hats off to you bro that’s a nasty machine definitely old school racer vibes🤙
Thank you
You need some bomber goggles fs
Gong faster is a must man.
It always is. I'm definitely looking forward to squeezing a bit more out of it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
One word: Awesome!
Locked or not itll be the same the only time that comes into effect is when your spinning one wheel
Awesome build sounds so good to
Yes, and when spinning the input shaft on these mower transaxles with open diff to check the ratio, typically only one axle spins, therefore only taking half the amount of turns of the input shaft. When I first checked the ratios, every gear worked out to exactly half what it was. So I initially thought I had a 6.1:1 6th gear, but it is 12.2:1. The same is true of an open diff on anything. If you spin the pinion gear with both sides unloaded, it will be half.
@@matthewanderson7766 Thank you
Looks like you going to
have a bent axle
Yeah, maybe. I'll be adding bearing supports to prevent that. I've put a lot of miles on one of these transaxles set up like this without bending. It's off-road and big bumps that will bend them.
I got a 49 cui Briggs intek block if your interested
Thanks. Is it a complete engine or just a short block? I might be interested depending on where you're located
@@DieselFuelNetwork its a block with the crank and pistons and camshaft. it needs rings on the lower piston the bore looked ok. And the crank is a 1 1/8 and I’m in southern Maryland
Guys please follow laws and stay safe and be a bright youtuber! 💪
I agree completely. No laws were broken here. This is a Lawn Tractor that can legally travel on a road. Laws vary by state, of course. Regardless of whether you and I agree on what is going on in this video, I will simply have to start adding a disclaimer to the videos. I'm here to entertain, not encourage unsafe or unlawful behavior. Again, neither of those occurred here. Thank you for watching.
@@DieselFuelNetwork a high speed lawnmower is legal where you are? You are clearly going well over 40 mph or whatever speed you were going and you are telling me thats legal?? Tf
@@DieselFuelNetwork As long as it looks like a lawnmower its legal. I don’t know where this takes place or the laws but you could very much lie to me.
@James12554 that's not what I said. As far as I know, a lawn mower is legally allowed to travel just like a farm tractor. Mowers typically max out at around 7 mph. My machine doesn't just look like a lawn tractor, It literally is a lawn tractor. Everything about it is.
@@DieselFuelNetwork What are the limits to traveling? (Law speaking)
What’s your pulley ratio?
0.43:1. I have a 7" engine pulley and a 3" trans pulley.
Yeeyee
🚜💨💨 😁👍
Helmet
That has been suggested before. I used to ride a motorcycle every day for about 5 years, and I would never even think about riding without a helmet. This is not a motorcycle or a quad or a go-kart. To me, it's a car. Driving an old T-bucket or Model-A roadster hot-rod is just as dangerous. This doesn't mean it's out of the question, though. Certainly, as I make it faster, I will likely be wearing one. Thanks for your concern, and thanks for watching.
Hell yeah 😎
Yeah man 👍 Thanks for watching
