The Pleasure Seekers - What A Way To Die (1965)

- New video cut from rare archive materials, featured in the new documentary SUZI Q (www.suziqmovie.com)
The Pleasure Seekers 1st single is now a recognised garage-rock classic - featuring Suzi Quatro on bass and vocals, Patti Quatro on lead guitar, Diane Baker on piano, Nancy Ball on drums, and Mary Loo Ball on guitar
Justice for Suzi Quatro to be inducted in The Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame.
Her and my Aunt that was part of the Band were inducted into the Michigan Hall a few years ago. Suzi couldn't make the trip, which sucks, I was finally going to meet Her.
I'm from Brazil, I was born in 85 and Suzi Quatro's first record was still part of my childhood/teenage years during the late 80s: to see Dolly Parton or Public Enemy being inducted to the RnR Hall of Fame but not Suzi Quatro, who had hit after hit, it is in fact "Rock" and reached the charts in a lot more countries than those two, makes no sense.
Yes!!! She will.

Pois é ....
Eu sou de 1962, e lembro bem do sucesso da Suzy Quatro no final dos anos 70...
Her sisters too...
I grew up on the East Side of Detroit. There was a club called The Hideout that had bands on Friday nights. Suzi Quartro used to work the snack bar. She then played there with The Pleasure Seekers, which included other sisters of hers. Her brother, Mike, was also a musician, classically trained, and a local music promoter. They were a very musical family.
Do you remember where The Hideout Club was? Was it VFW hall on Harper Ave in Harper Woods?
Thank you for your comment. I allways guessed that there was something of a classical education in Suzi
That band included my Aunt, She was best friends with Suzi. Chances are my Grandfather, a professional Photographer, took many of the pictures in this video. I have hundreds of pics and negatives of their performances.
That would be really neat to share!
@@imontop4u Mom has them now, all but the ones I kept for myself. I have a big picture of my Aunt in the garage. Being Mr. Goodwrench it is my Man Cave
Punk before anyone knew what punk was.
This band is sooooo good what the fuckkk
Well I love you baby
I'm telling you right here
But please don't make me decide baby
Between you and a bottle of beer
Baby come on over
Come on over to my side
Come on baby (My side)
Well I may not live past twenty-one
But WOO!
What a way to die!
Your lovin' fluctuates baby
And everybody knows
But the temperature always stays the same
On an ice cold bottle of Stroh's
So baby come on over
Come on over to my side
Come on over, honey
Well I may not live past twenty-one
But WOO!
What a way to die
And when I start my drinking
My baby throws a fit
So I just blitz him outta my mind
With seventeen bottles of Schlitz
And baby come on over
Come on over to my side
Come on
Well I may not live past twenty-one
But WOO!
What a way to die
You've got the kind of body
That makes me come alive
But I'd rather have my hands around
A bottle of Colt 45
And baby come on over
Come on over to my side
Are you coming now, baby?
Well I may not live past twenty-one
But WOO!
What a way to die
I’m British - I often criticise America and Americans for what I see as your failings (blowing up stuff, insularity, racism, Jimmy Osmond) but what I will NEVER criticise is your wealth of talent. This band were 30 years ahead of their time and nobody knows they existed. At least Suzi went on to have a LOT of hits in the UK during the 70s. They were crap hits, mainstream stuff compared to this brilliant track. The coolest forgotten band ever.
Suzi is the ORIGINAL.. Joan Jett is the IMITATOR.
These ladies make real raw rock music, I am thankful to hear this gem 💎
suzi's like 15 or 16 here....young and talented..oof..
Not the kind of girl you take home to meet your mother. She'll ask your mom for a light and eye up the liquor cabinet, but hell yeah!
@@scdevon LoL my mom would've hugged her.
Raw rock n' roll!
This is four years before Iggy's first album. Incredible.
Not really ruclips.net/video/XsROsCLUPRs/видео.html&ab_channel=PUNK%27n%27DELIC64-67
No comparison. Iggy rocks!!!
Iggy was part of another Michigan group called The Iguanas before he became Iggy Pop (back then he was Jim Osterberg)
It's a great song but did they write it?? Dave Leone is credited. Who sang lead vocal? MaryLou Baker did the screams, apparently. Patti and Suzi Quatro are also cited as songwriters. Patti is given as the lead vocalist at the time. What a pain in the ass to find this basic info.
First time I heard this was 3hours ago in the movie Sting (2024) and the vocals reminds me a bit of Howlin´ Pelle from The Hives.
It would be awesome if the Hives covered this!
@@Kevvinm Yes. Someone tell them. Now I am gonna go on a Hives marathon before I go to bed 😀
When I searched for this song, YT forcefully slapped me with a suicide prevention ad before showing me the search results.
1:16 Wonder if Slash saw this way back when 👀
Clearly Suzi Q is NOT on vocals here, just bass., but the tune rocks anyway!
Patti is on lead here.
Would have liked to just watch the performance of the girls without all those posters and photos you had flashing up on the screen. It's distracting.
I remember the Shop Assistants version but only just realised it was a cover. Never too old to learn...
Those Suzi Q screams just melt me!
First heard this song being covered by The Shop Assistants on their debut album. I never knew it wasn't their song
Is that the shop assistants of " good thing" fame?.
@@mickymac6571 No.
Wow, some new pics and great montage! Love to see that video of Patti singing. So professional and a humorous bunch!
My Aunt was in the band and there is a good chance my Grandfather, a professional Photographer took many of them. I have hundreds of Pics and negatives of their performances tucked away.
@@mattm237695 share them somewhere?
Toledo Pop Festival - did you see that line-up? Wow!
Why is there a time stretch algorithm glitch sound to this? I heard the same glitches on spotify. Someone needs to go back to the original masters or maybe a vinyl collector has one they can make a rip from?
I'm writing from Poland. Today I discovered this song. 1st league of rock music.
yeah poland !!!!! support ukraine
Wow! That Was Great ! I Never even heard of them !
Pure Detroit garage rock!
i , first listen this song on What a way to die comp ( Satan rds ) more than 25 years ago ..... Suzi get the right thing !
The first female band! (Correct me if I'm wrong)
Pretty much correct, at least the first female PUNK band... Sisters Suzi, Patti, and Arlene Quatro and Nancy Ball, until they evolved into Cradle, and Jerry Nolan was their drummer prior to his days in the New York Dolls. Patti joined Fanny, another female band to come along after them, with the Millington sisters, for their final album. There have been many female singing groups, but they played their own instruments. All part of the early Detroit punk scene of the 60s with The Stooges and MC5.
@@davidreames8752 There was an all female british band called The Liverbirds that formed in 63.
Go go Suzi then you'll get to devil gate drive. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
It's a wonder these guys never made it big. Awesome music and hot as hell. I guess people were not ready for a rock and roll girl group (or at least that was what the record labels believed). Girls were relegated to Motown and pop music. Rock was too racy
Was it 66?I was 7,shit,this is good Suzi!!!
I heard this on The Record Roulette Club. Such a fun online radio show for stuff like this and more. Life-changing, dare I say!
i hope there is some material for an LP, i know Norton record re-issue this single, why not the rest Suzy ? i love the tone and all the songs of this band i hear on the tube. or compilation.
There is an album:
amzn.to/2YLYcyV
The vocals on the chorus sounds like the donnas...overall i way prefer this.
That's who I thought it was when I 1st heard it on tv show
This is wonderful. A true love ode to the magic of the beer buzz!
The Phone Jerks brought me here, so glad, for 1965 this song is real some punk rock shit. I thought the Phone Jerks were putting their own raunch into a tamer song, I see I’m wrong.
Brilliant!
Have any bands covered this? The lyrics are ironic and fun, ANY band could play this!
this is just amazing
My god… a young Suzi Quatro. Be still my heart.
Cute but couldn't carry a tune, in a bucket.
@@gwine9087Get over yourself
@@gwine9087 Go outside and play. Leave the conversation to the adults.
@@davidhoward4715 This adult is, probably old enough to be your daddy. What's your mom's name?
I mean I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure she was 14 or 15 in these photos but hey you did say young
It took Suzi going over to England to make the "big time" and rightly so, she rocked it in leather!
This sends chills down my spine and this 4 years before Alice Cooper and Iggy and The Stooges.
Give the Iguanas a look up they were Iggy pops 1st group, Alice Coopers 1st band was the Spiders, don’t blow your mind is well worth a listen, it’s a fuzz monster.
philipcook2284
Iggy!! Vastly superior to suzi quatto.
So if there's a dude introducing the live video, why isn't there a live video?
Now I know where The Pandoras got their sound.
that song is so epic. should be a top classic hit
Loving the pics and sound, a mix of fenders and the odd Gibson and that vox continental. Are those Sunn Amps they are playing through? It sounds like it's a one take garage stomper taking the guys on going toe to toe!
Why didn't you just upload the video of them singing the song?

Are they the first female all band members group?
First (or one of) all-female rock group who played their own instruments and wrote (some of) their own material; there were several all-girl bands in the 1930s, and of course zillions of vocal girl groups in the 50s and early 60s.
the video looks to be of another song - any chance of seeing all of that video?
Looks AI now, lol.
