I love how open minded you are, and how non judgemental you deliver your mesage.
On the subject, I myself kind of naturally rolled into intermittent fasting without knowing what it was and without any goal, after a bad break up.
The first two weeks I was in such a dark place, I literally didn't eat at all. (probably not a good plan, and to be clear, not promoting that here) After that I kind of had to force myself to at least eat something.
Gradually my appetite returned and I started to enjoy food again, but somehow I always only got hungry sometime between 3 or 4PM.
The thing was though, that for the first time in my life I was on my own, no-one to take care of and no-one to answer to. So no-one dictating 3 (or more) meals a day at precise times during the day, when I wasn't actually hungry, but eating because it was expected, or rather joining because the others were hungry.
And since I was working from home everyday, cooking a healthy meal every day between 3 and 4PM was no issue at all.
Then came my half yearly check up at the immunologist (I have an auto-immune disease called Ankylosing spondylitis), I was in my new routine for about 4 months, and my white blood cell count was way down, my joints were more mobile than they'd been for years, sleeping better than I ever did, feeling so much more energetic and doing some light workouts on a daily basis.
When I told her about it, I feared she would urge me back into the 3 meals a day story, but she didn't. She praised me for it and explained the intermittent fasting (first time I heard about it at that point), and that she found it rather a shame that most (even academics) still hold on to the 3 meals a day belief and especially the idea of breakfast being the most important one of the day, stating that it is more important that every individual learns to listen to their own body and what that body needs.
In my case it being 1 well balanced meal a day.
Unfortunately a few months later my mom died. That and and having to go back to the office on a regular basis, where I am regularly confronted by the sight and smell of food and not being able to stick to the 3 to 4PM routine that my body seemed to prefer, one year later I am struggling to regain that awesome thing I had accidentally found and seemed to work wonders.
White blood count is way up again, aching, low energy and not finding any courage to work out 😕
Oh well, maybe better tomorrow. One day at a time and not trying to expect too much.
Sorry for the long comment. Guess I needed to vent a bit.

Congratulations on finding this out about yourself. You could do this again if you want because you did it that time. I understand your motivation was accidental, i went through that once as well. The second time I did it was on purpose. I found eating breakfast/lunch no dinner worked great for me. I encourage you to try again if you want to. I know now that i can do these things and be successful and i choose not to do it. One day i might return to it. Till this day I can now go without food and hunger and sometimes quite by accident. So bottom line, good luck!

Thank you for this!! It’s so good to finally hear some direct insight and wisdom regarding “diet” trends, rather than a sales pitch for a new one. 👏👏👏👏
Question: Does it matter if a person stops eating a certain time before bed? I’ve heard for years that we shouldn’t eat after 8, shouldn’t eat after 9, etc. it’s been a common trope long before people were talking about IF. 🤔

Could never get tired of the background trees or bird sounds, gorgeous! Then the shot and bear explanation… “welcome to the boonies” haha!
I know you didn’t address ALL of the science since that’s unreasonable. Like you said, we can look it up ourselves. But I LOVE that you go deep enough to give some basis for what you’re saying. Talk science to me… maybe it’s because I’m nurse, but it’s great.
Personally, the unscripted videos are my fav. It feels real and like you just want to put the info out there for the benefit of the people who want to listen to you. Totally respect that.
Also, love that you connect the practical use of whether to IF or not.
    Thank you!!! 👏👏👏

I agree. It's not helping me except with my digestion issues. It gives my body time to rest between meals. I'm old. Apparently so is my stomach

Btw, I agree with your assessment on doing things easy and it furthering your journey. When I decided to fast it was tough at first. I’ve always been overweight and before getting into ketosis I didn’t think i could go without meals due to low blood sugar. After ketosis and then making myself fast, I was then able to understand and believe I could do it. That’s a big step for some people.

I wish I had your appetite man haha bulking is painful as hell for me.
With intermittent fasting when I'm asked about it I tend to say it's good for the people who I don't think will go through the effort of learning about nutrition and calories, if I think the person will learn about it though, I'll just tell them to start counting their calories and get into a deficit.
but I would say a good 80 percent of people will lose a healthy amount of weight with intermittent fasting just because most people don't have the stomach capacity or appetite to eat maintenance calories in a short interval unless if they go absolutely crazy. The most I can eat in one sitting is around 1500 calories, I don't have a very good appetite but I can't see the majority of people being able to kick back 2500 calories in one sitting every single night.

you mention in the description that you fast for 24 hrs every 4 months, what do you typically break the fast with? Is there preferred type of foods that are best to break a long fast?

    • @ThorenBradley

Honestly? Just a typical meal. Rice, chicken greens? Potatoes, Lean Meat, zuchinnni...something like that

Hey Thoren! My nephew, who is 14, has asked me to teach him how to workout. I am good on that part. However, he has a bad habit of not eating well. I think he is doing this to not gain weight and stay “skinny”. He has an average built. I think it will be easy for him to gain muscle.
How would you address his bad eating habits? I just need a perspective from a male before I go into the “you need good food resources to gain muscle” speech. Thanks in advance 🤙🏽

Dude i lost a lot of weight doing keto and if (later, didn’t start that way). I didn’t enjoy being on that team because it sucks socially to be in a diet. I wanted to go to a Mexican restaurant every day…. Think about that. Hey Bob where you want to go for lunch. Broken record… Don’t get me started on church get togethers. I got to where eating wasn’t fun or enjoyable, it was something i did to live. Also, i never thought better than i did on keto and fasting. I was a t-rex and began to understand the hangry snickers ads. My brain worked incredibly clean but i was a total dick to be around.
