    This little camera was the first camera I ever used as a child. Was our first "family" camera. Amazingly simple to use and still takes great pic 40 years on. Love it.

    I worked in a photographic shop from 1980 -1996 and we used to take pics on various films including Ilford Pan F and blow the resulting negatives up to 20 x 16" to display in the shop. the results were absolutely incredible. My wife had one for years and took some amazing street photography type shots on various holidays in Greece Portugal Italy France etc. That little Zuiko lens was a true gem...

  • @oly35mm
    @oly35mm 8 лет назад +7

    Another excellent video on an absolute classic. The little 40mm f2.8 D design is possibly the best lens type for this sort of camera (10M+ users can't be wrong!)

    • @OldCameras
      @OldCameras  8 лет назад +2

      Many thanks sir. I can see what the fuss is all about now. :) And now that I know the exposure is dependable, I'm going to shoot it a lot more.

    Bought mine in a street market in Split, Croatia for €30 a few years back. I'd never used one. It didn't have a lens cap. I found a shop selling film, wound it on and shot the roll in a day, hoping I'd worked out how to work the camera. Some of the results were a bit unfocussed but where I'd got it right... wow. Amazing, colourful, sharp photos. I don't use it, but I'm not planning to sell it either. Beautiful design. Olympus should do a digital version in micro four thirds. Fixed 20mm lens, no autofocus, no rear screen. Just zone focus and a view finder. Work out what you got when you get home. Spartan digital photography!

  • @dabsan
    @dabsan 8 лет назад +3

    Great video Ade. Olympus really made some good 35mm cameras, I love my 35 RC.
    The selenium light cell on the Trip 35 is convenient and avoids the search for discontinued battery types.

    • @OldCameras
      @OldCameras  8 лет назад

      That's one giant benefit of the Trip. It's also the downfall, because if the cell dies, the camera becomes kind of useless. Well, you can still set the aperture manually and lie about the ASA I guess.. but life's too short for all that haha.

  • @Frisenette
    @Frisenette 8 лет назад +2

    The overlap is to make it possible to see the focus setting in the little extra window on the lower right. The one before infinity, the group, is the hyper focal range. That's why it's coloured red.
    I find rangefinders hard and slow to focus in many situations. It's often difficult to find a suited contrast edge to do the focusing on.
    I also find the lens mount on the 35 RC wobbly, cheap feeling and fiddly to use compared to the Trip.
    The Trip is also far easier to find and cheaper. It has a slightly smaller lens but would be my choice for most occasions.

    • @OldCameras
      @OldCameras  8 лет назад

      The Trip is far easier to find for sure. I see them a lot in charity shops around here. Wow, I didn't know about the hyperfocal range. That's good to know!

    Great video! I used to own a 35SP and a 35RC and, now I've watched your video, I want to buy both of them again. I have a few Trips, so they will do me for now. I'm old enough to remember the David Bailey TV advert but I had a Zenit EM back then. Anyway, thank you for reviving my interest in film photography!

    Thanks for your video. I have had one of these cameras (equally in as good condition as your own) for about 10 years, and it always performs well. It’s a very easy camera to use and it’s great for catching really sharp images.

  • @Motoguzzi750

    Just bought one today for £20 - loaded some HP5 into it a few minutes ago, will give it a go tomorrow. I read a few reviews of them, and just had to get one! Now I have all the cameras I will need for the rest of my life; Trip 35 and a Nikon FE. Now to get some accessories for the Trip from probably the Trip Man. Just a yellow filter and a lens cap . That's it. Oh yeah, and I was out and about in London when I found the Trip. all the best, Scotty. Love the vid.

  • @alfonsolopc
    @alfonsolopc 6 лет назад

    Why is it better to shoot full automatic? I tested my first roll with the trip in summer and for really sunny photos I would just change aperture to f16 and the photos came out just fine. Same goes for cloudy conditions, f11.

    Top tip; if you see one at a car boot sale/junk shop, to test if the selenium battery still works then put your hand over the lens and the red flag pops up in the viewfinder then the camera is working, if the flag doesn't pop up then it's knackered.

    I am currently shooting with my trip 35 for the first time on HP5+ . What film did you use in this photo ?

      Hi,
      The photos shown in this video were taken with the Agfa Vista 200 which is a pretty cheap colour film. I've also since used HP5+ with remarkable results.

      :) Thank you Megan. It's a mix of a lot of things as I've lived in a lot of places growing up. I'd say it's about 70% British, 10% West African, 10% American and 10% mish-mash jumble-jumble mumbo-jumbo :)

      I've got this camera today, just a question. Once i roll the film and press thew shutter button, should i still be able to keep pressing the shutter button once the picture has been taken? Will it ruin the film if i keep pressing the button while not rewinding the film? Thank you!

    No batteries are need at all for the camera to fonction ?

    • @Tywno

      No. The camera has a selenium light sensitive cell around the lens, measuring the available a light. There's an ingenious needle mechanism setting the aperture and shutter speed. ALWAYS cap the camera when not in use, to prevent unnecessary aging of the light cell. Once its dead, its dead. Manual exposure will still be possible. I'm a Trip guy till I die!

      haha. You better register #TeamTrip quick :) I have a lovely cap on mine. The previous owner either took exceptional care of it, or put it away in the closet somewhere for 35 years.
