Hey could you help, I found a 2009 kfX marble red. Super good deal. Could you tell me best way to back plug, is there a gas shut off. And best bolt on Exaust that just goes on?
I use liqui moly 5w 50 full synthetic atv oil.... its better for extreme conditions and temperatures (high and low). and has maximum protection... but its not cheap 10w40 atv oil is fine too and more readily available
I just bought a 2004....the guy I got it from said there was NOT an oil drain plug, and that he just leans the quad over to drain the oil out. Didnt sound right to me but I am total newbie to atvs....please advise me?
thats rubbish, the drain plug is a 12mm dia. bolt with a 1.50 pitch. ..there is a hole in the skid plate, the bolt is above it... the oil pan is aluminium though. mine got stripped so I repaired it with a time-sert.... much better now. If there is no drain plug then I guarantee he stripped it and put a bigger size in to block it up instead of fixing it. See if theres a bolt, take it out and get a time-sert drain plug kit. Theyre not cheap but it will be better than stock because it will be screwing into steel not aluminium, much less chance of stripping. Also you will be able to do future oil changes much easier.... time sert takes heat extremely well too DONT get a helicoil to fix it.... theyre nowhere near as good as a time-sert. a time sert screws in, (create a thread in the oil pan, screw in the insert, then the drain plug) whereas a helicoil just uses compression for the insert. Time sert is a much better permanent solution. There is a guide for the kfx700 fix using a time-sert on youtube. Its easy to do. kit is about $120....you will need awrench handle or a 12 pin socket so you can turn the the tap which creates the thread for the insert, and also install the insert with the included insert tool... you will also need a drill to create the right size hole (drill bit and counter bore are included) , Its much easier to do than it sounds. Grease everything too (drill bit, tap, bore) less chance of getting small metal bits in the pan). You will also need to get a drain plug if you dont have one.... theyre $30 ish. What you need is a m12, (12mm) plug with 1.50 pitch. The crush washer is usually included. You can get all parts on amazon. If you cant get the existing bolt out you could make another hole in the oil pan for a drain plug... Ive seen a number of people do this sucessfullly....I would still use a time-sert so you dont strip it with oil changes... unfortunately its easily done as the oil pan is aluminium. If you get a time sert kit the drill bit you get will make a new hole the correct size.... make a hole in the skid plate too for easy access... about 50mm or so... this will allow oil to come out too without going all over the skid plate. Either way you do, its not difficultr
Love my 700 great bike

What is the correct way to check the oil level ? Do you screw the dipstick in or do you just insert the dipstick and then pull it out ?
Screw in the dipstick
@@nathanocean1061 Are you sure? My Honda Foreman manual says to check it with the dipstick unscrewed.
my oil pan drain screw hole got stripped, I fixed it with a time-sert. much better than a helicoil

Yeah about that….. haha there should be a drain plug under there.
Looks like a bolt head. But should be under the lowest point of the engine but could be covered by a skid plate
