Sora won the Smash fighter ballot that was originally meant to decide Smash 4's DLC characters. That's how long it took for them to make this a reality. Not as the last DLC character in Smash 4, but as the last DLC character in the following entry in the series. The last character in a game called Ultimate with the tagline 'Everyone is Here'; that couldn't be more appropriate now.
Something tells me that the requirement involved scrubbing any and all references to Mickey/Disney... except for the keychain.
Which some people joke cost more than the rights to use Sora, lol.

The problem is that not too many people bought it to being with :/ What I meant is mostly the lack of third party support and the really tough last couple of years before the Switch came out, I have no regrets; but being a Nintendo fan at the time wasn't very rewarding. XD

Yeah, being a teen through the GameCube-wii u eras, Nintendo was perceived as being outdated technology for kids, and not “cool and badass” like PS3 and Xbox360. Everyone was obsessed with call of duty and online multiplayer games. I’m sad I fell into that mindset. I did have a Wii, but really only had a handful of games. Now playing Skyward Sword I’m shocked how good it is and sad that I could’ve played it 10 years ago lol.
I'm honestly so disappointed with my Switch. Everything's just so over priced and delicate and I just can't with that Joycon drift

For Sora to appear like that while everyone is in the dark, especially with the screen saying he’s finally here really puts a smile on my face. Kh is one of my favorite series so this is just mind blowing
And possibly a nod to his role in Kingdom Hearts where he's destined to open the Door to Light.

Sakurai mentioned in the stream that they had a poll for the 3DS/Wii U Smash game and Sora won the poll but couldn't release the results so fans wouldn't bug 3rd party companies.
A well known Twitter poll, conducted by a bot scanning all of Twitter from the US, UK and Japan found that Sora placed 1st in demand from both the US and UK and 2nd in Japan (the only person person beat him was Lloyd, the MC of Tales of Symphonia). YES we wanted this, and for a VERY long time. You can find a billion mods out there placing him in the game, usually as a response if Pit or Link.
I had the luck to see every direct related to Ultimate, from reveal to this, live. I had the luck to find this channel at the end of 2020 and see you get up to speed with a number of legendary franchises.
And I had the luck to see you watch this reveal live.

Sadly it'll be Cloud versions, so almost no one will get them (Not that I think the Switch could run the 2.8 version, let alone KH3). :/

But compare this to how Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest have been treated on the platform. Final Fantasy 7, 9, the remasters of 8, 10, 10-2, and 12 are all on the Switch natively with World of Final Fantasy as well. The only modern games not on Switch are the MMOs, 13 trilogy (which very few even want), and 15 and 7 Remake, which are some extremely demanding games.
Dragon Quest got an exceptional version of 11, multiple legacy releases, and a beautiful remake of 3 coming.
It's just really lame that they would treat the Kingdom Hearts series so much worse.

@@kitkat7074 I'm one of those people, actually, I only own my Switch and have no plans of going to buy a PS any time soon. I'm glad for those who are buying it that way, I may give it a shot for DDD and 3, but sales of the cloud based games don't lie, most people will skip them just because of that. :(
Nomura started to work on Sora and KH in general under the thought it needed to be as iconic as Mario. Almost twenty years later here he is, duke in it out with Mr.VideoGame himself. :') It's almost poetic.

It's not so much "retired" as you may be putting it, heck they still acknowledge the *trophy* concept in the story mode of Ultimate (it's part of how the "bad spirits" are created).
All things considered, this was a magical experience, watching DeeBeeGeek learning slowly and starting to feel the same emotions fans of all these games felt. With Kingdom Hearts being one of the games he has been playing, this felt like an incredibly fitting, emotional end.

Yeah I'm glad everyone understands that it's still a good pick for the last character even if you're not a fan of the series.
I personally think a better third party alternative would have been crash, since that way we would have had all the classic game mascots from the 80s and 90s era.

As much as I loved crash, this had way more finality to this title and was 5 years in the making. This payoff was absolutely worth the wait.

It's funny how the 2nd season pass is mostly modeled after Dee's favorite games and recent playthroughs (FF7, Tekken, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts)

Fun fact: The Smash characters have always been amiibos. The game has always been just a kid(Master Hand) playing with their toys & making them fight.
The official amiibo design(with the base & everything) is based on Smash’s representation of that in Melee/Brawl.

This stream was amazing! It was a very weird yet awesome experience to see my most desired character be in smash, despite me refusing to believe it was even remotely possible until it happened. Sakurai is watching you Dee.
You started your Smash Bros. journey just after Steve was revealed (and that's actually how I first heard of you), and I'll be honest, I was watching your journey back into Nintendo through the reactions that you did to the various Nintendo franchises. And let me just say, that was an amazing journey to witness. And to witness a series you just barely got into make it into Smash makes it a truly amazing thing.
Now Kingdom Hearts 4 needs to visit a world called, "Battlefield" or something similar - where a magical child brings warriors from different worlds to fight for his enjoyment. Sora will make friends with Mario and everybody and take down the master hands to free them from fighting endlessly.

KH is an amazing series have fun with it! so much heart warming moments and lots of things to learn even about yourself i played this since it came out in the early 2000's it's truly a beloved franchise highly reccomend!

Unfortunately the KH games on Switch outside of Melody of Memory are all cloud based, meaning you'll need good internet to stream them.
I would recommend the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, or PC collections over playing them on Switch. It's a shame they didn't develop natively run versions on Switch.

If it was, it should have many benefits and reasons behind it its just a tool to keep us getting used to authority for surveillance it's very creepy.

Not to mention the Steamdeck will be able to play Kingdom Hearts on the go now that the series is on PC.

Dee Bee Geek started watching Smash Bros content exactly a year ago around October 2020 I believe when Steve was revealed/released. One year later in October 2021, the final Smash Ultimate character was revealed and I've noticed every reveal since Sephiroth back in December. He was always hyped, excited, happy, etc. It's crazy how when he was starting to get into Xenoblade, Pyra and Mythra were revealed and Kazuya being Smash months later when Dee is a Tekken fan. Now with Sora as the final character and a character from a game he's playing nowadays, It's pretty crazy isn't it. Having this guy before not being that much of a Nintendo fan until a year ago and now is basically a big Nintendo fan now. This is why Dee Bee Geek is becoming one of my favorite streamers of all time. He deserves all the love from his fans including myself and I hope he continues to play more Nintendo related games on the channel.

Man, the sheer timing... I first discovered you catching up to and reacting to all the Smash announcements up until the then-recent Steve reveal... you played through much of Kingdom hearts and just 100% platinum KH2, still believed by many to be the best game of the series, even pushing through beating the extra bosses, especially Lingering Will...
Then this trailer bookends the whole staring at the flaming Smash logo and the final guest character? Sora.

It's been a delight watching this event live on your stream and hearing you explode with excitement like we all have in prior surprise guest character reveals as you finally caught up with the rest of us being excited for a new, and final, character for this once-in-a-lifetime crossover bonanza of a game.
Here's hoping Nintendo releases a physical "complete" edition of Smash Ultimate, because WE KNOW once access to the servers for the DLC is gone, it's gone forever.
