I always preferred this version over the official release mainly because of the last 10 seconds from 2:40 to 2:50. It adds something that I can't describe well other than just a feeling of calm intensity before the track comes back full force, which works.

I think that it's rather poetic that the same exchanged happened between Sam and Armstrong, but also between Sam and Raiden, in a sense, Raiden is carrying Sam with him.
