i started a commonplace book because of your first video and it is bringing me so much joy - i write more, i keep notes about the things i’m researching and reading, i’m collaging again, and it’s wonderful! i carry this book everywhere i go and i find myself pulling it out and messing around in it rather than being on my phone, which is Great for my “oh my god our phones are killing us” brain. the way you conceptualize what a commonplace book is for and how to approach it is so wonderfully relaxed and loose, which makes it seem more accessible than how i’ve seen others talk about this process :)

omg that idea to introspective journal from the back to front and then more casual use from front to back is GENIUS!!!! I've always hated having the mix of it in one but still wanted to only have to deal with one journal and that is such a good solution!!!!!!

that makes so much sense! now i won’t feel bad for my journal not being just one plain thing

I do the front to back / back to front thing with my own journal too! At the front it's all regular journal entries and at the back I write down qoutes from books I'm reading and interesting stuff I find online. So my journals always end somewhere in the middle of the notebook. Glad to see I'm not the only one who does this!

Man you're so inspiring 😭 I'd given up on art and journaling after over 10 years of my books got lost in a move but watching your videos inspires me to get back into it, and with great new ideas I never considered! I hope to watch more in the future!

Totally understandable that you covered what you didn't feel like sharing! Loved this video, watched it while making a weekly spread in my bujo, which, thanks to you, I turned into a commonplace book as well (from the back side). It's helped me so much with my inner perfectionist berating me for my bujo not being as organised as pretty as I would like it to be - because it's no longer only a bujo, but also an amalgamation of everything and anything I write down there that's more to do with journalling and scrapbooking even.

Girl it's totally fine to want privacy! No need to apologize!
Also, thak you so much, your video saved my journaling experience. I was kinda giving up on it, but then you showed me that what I wanted was possible, and was totally ok. Thak you so much.
I clicked on this video because I was curios about how you apply your suggestions on your own journal.
Seeing that you too don't do pretty layouts, or mere aesthetic pages is so validating to me: the journaling community most of the time is all about pretty stuff… thanks again to do this video. I'd listen to you talk about journaling all day.
When I see one of your videos I know it will give me again the same strong feeling and love for this activity.
Thank you so much, really. I think words (that aren't even from my native language, lol) can't express my infinite gratitude.
    I wish you the best

if you're still looking for ideas on how to present the second book:
it might be good to start with a flip through video of the second one - and write down potential ways to go through it while you go through it and then let it sit for around 3 months while people comment and you think about it
but if you really want a bunch of ideas now: I would split the second one into 5 videos based on the main concepts or things inside and do more of a deep dive on each individual one - as this video went through all the surface level stuff
    but yeah
ideas based on things you said: talking through your process/insights into your mind, not a polished product, secret messages, retaining passion
ideas based on commonplace books on RUclips: how to, journal, setup, starting, vlog
idea from other comments on this video: art journal, sketchbook, thoughts, drawings, future reference, collected knowledge
some ideas of mine: empty pages, most important, mental boundaries
    other: echoes of past work
    btw
the bit at 10 minutes was pretty funny
    step 1: make a diary
    step 2: show the internet
    step 3: panic 😂
congrats on sharing your alien word soup!

Thanks for sharing your book however, this is not a commonplace book. This is more of a sketch book /art journal in which you have included some diary entries or notes. A commonplace book is more of a compilation of collected knowledge, ideas, quotations, and observations. It's a book where one gathers and organizes information from various sources for future reference and reflection. They are more like a database than a diary.

    These are not commonplace books.
I’m not sure why there is so much confusion spread online about this concept.
But a commonplace book holds information from the world around outside of yourself, like quotes, recipes, song lyrics, other people’s poems, data….
As your lovely journals are your own thoughts and your drawings, they are an art journal, a creative journal, simply a journal. But they’re definitely not a commonplace book.

Your journals are really beautiful. You are very creative. However they are not commonplace book. "Commonplace books (or commonplaces) are a way to compile knowledge, usually by writing information into books." I guess "knowledge" is the key word for what commonplace books are.
