Just listened to Joana here again. I have followed the talents of female singers from as far back as Anita O'day, Ella or course, Rosemary Clooney and many others up to he present day ( excluding the more wailing pop singers ) Whatever other musical talent Joana may have I think she should really pursue her singing. She has a certain quality in her voice that cannot be learned. If she continues to develop her voice she has the chance to be a massively successful singer, I hope she does.

This has been a favorite song of mine since I heard the Harry Nilsson version in the '70s. Loved the Flugelhorn here! Joan Moné crushed the arrangement.
Good interpretation of this classic, highlighting the masterful solos of the 3 regular guests, Hamilton and Oatts on sax and Magnarelli on trumpet. Joana Casanova sings with her usual beautiful voice and elegant style, but I think she is a bit too accelerated for my taste, especially in the first verses, until Scott Hamilton enters and with his infinite wisdom gives the song the right pause and rhythm. I admit that it has taken me quite a few visualisations to get used to this fast rhythm of the vocalist, but good songs admit many types of interpretations. If Joana or the arranger Joan Monné (almost always infallible) have chosen this one, well, I'm not going to be the one to change their minds, what the hell. And in the end I liked it and enjoyed the version a lot. Besides, Joana gives us super luxurious details, like that "ja" at 04:34 (and she makes a face as if was saying us "I know you liked it"😉). Wow how she soared at the end and nailed that note. Great to see her smiling while singing too. Some of these girls really seem to have pipes in a small package, but rarely fly. Mr. Chamorro should stop trying to mold the next Billie Holiday and go about trying to mold the next Ella instead.
I doubt there's any "molding" going on. These kids start off listening to original recordings and some degree of imitation is to be expected. In time they develop their own sound and style e.g. Andrea Motis.
I disagree but in any case Joan likes to give as many people as possible an opportunity to front and Ms Motis has her own groups and is just happy to support the others whether in the trumpet or sax section or as a backing singer.
