Ralfy I have only recently come across your reviews and they are excellent. I have no problem with ads on You tube channels that I enjoy and watch regularly, particularly if it is people like you investing time to help others at your own expense. Thoroughly enjoyable and always great advice for newcomers to single malts as I am. Looking forward to some more cigar reviews, I am an H. Upmann man myself. Cheers
I like the long reviews, Ralfy! In keeping with the theme that when purchasing malts, we should get more for our money. The longer reviews mean that we get a richer source of information and entertainment. Cheers! And keep it up! :-)
Ralfy, I really like your videos, thank you! Im not only watching your videos for the tasting notes, I also enjoy all the extra information as im a malt novice. Your reviews are never boring and quite entertaining. So take as much time as you want! Tip: if you open a paypal account I bet there are a lot of people willing to make a donation to keep your car running and the whisky flowing :)
I thought I recognized that bottle this morning when I viewed your vid. There is a bottle of Old Malt Cask in our village store on Vancouver Island 2.5 hours from Victoria. It's not quite the same. It is 1 of 169, 19 year old and 50%, distilled 1991 and bottled 2010. It is almost unheard of to see an independent bottling of a single malt here. It is a little beyond my means at $175 cdn. It actually does say "no nonsense" on the bottle.
Thanks for this great review! I have found the rest of the cask ;-) There are 330 bottles from cask no. 6074 with 50% alcohol out there from Douglas Laing. I am now going on the hunt for one of them, since I didn't succeed with the cask strength version.
hey, ralfy! loved the review as always. i've been watching quite a few of your reviews over the past few weeks and have to say that they're thoroughly enjoyable. it's nice to have a straightforward, easy to understand review for those of us that are beginners to scotch whisky drinking. have you ever considered taping your reviews when you first taste the whisky? i think its nice to see the first response without any prior meditation . either way great review as always. keep up the good work!
G'day ralfy from Australia, another question mate, local store down the road has the Old malt cask - 25yo Port ellen... Have you tried it before and would you recommend it?
Hi Ralfy, of late Ive been seeing a few "alchemist" versions of SMS. Highland Park has an 11 &a 19yo alchemist Expr.& jus now I viewed a Mortlach 22yo "Alchemist" Exprssn. Are these the products or concoctions of the 'mad scientist' types?? Thanks much.
Hi Ralfy, really enjoying the videos! Quick question, would you recommend the DL Old Malt Cask series in general? I live in Australia, and they have a couple of them e.g. OMC Benrinnes 12, Blair Athol 12, Springbank 10 and have a tough time finding reviews or scores of these on forums.
Ralfy, my local store just got a few indy bottles of Mortlach. But this one was aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks (they told me there is no sherry maturation). Is this going to be different in style to the standard Mortlachs?
G'day Ralfy. Just wondering why gin never seems to get much of a mention these days. Every time i have some when im out i get 'O that's an old mans drink'! Do you like gin ? I personally love the stuff, cracking drink for the summer time especially. I usually tell the negative people to try it before being critical, and they are usually pleasantly surprised. Who started this "Old Man's Drink' thing?
good review, sounds like a very interresting whisky :) To the longer videos, I doubt any of the viewers are in a hurry. Give it time, if you feel like you could use a few more mins to talk about the whisky, go ahead :)
I'm from the USA - actually, I've never set foot outside its boundaries (yet!!! but I intend to change that very soon). I'd just like to mention to anyone viewing what a "sultana" is: in the UK, Australia, and possibly South Africa, it's usually used to describe a raisin made from a green grape. It gets a tad more specific than that, but that's the gist of it. Just mentioning, since as a native-US citizen, I never knew this until a couple of years ago. Most Americans won't know this term.
Since you asked for feedback on the length: I feel that you could be more brief in your preamble and take more time with the tasting notes. This one does seem a little long.
Hi man, what was that? I saw quite a bit stuff from you over the years and appreciate pretty much what came along, including your Bonneville 250 salty-malty-push-rod stuff (I bike as well (old Boxers)) but this review gives me a hard time... reading from what you wrote down the night before... not sure but seems to me you probably had some booze...maybe, maybe not was fun to watch anyway...going back in time when this seemed to be more on the improvised side or whatever ;-) Cheers & keep it up, Stefan
Oi Ralf! I finally got my hands on some Mortlach! It's a Signatory Vintage 12 yr that strangely surfaced at my local shop, and a bit of a steal at 50 some odd $. It says natural color, but must be chill filtered since it doesn't say it isn't and is bottled at 43%. Oh well. Anyway my question good sir - it says matured in hogshead, so I'm likely sipping an ex-bourbon matured Mortlach then, correct? I do get a bit of that beefiness I've heard about and some minty herbalness...
I actually prefer the reviews a bit longer like this. Tthe ads aren't that intrusive (they're pretty much part of the whole RUclips thing now anyway. Viewers can always minimise them as soon as they pop up - I've got quite good at it now!). If you're going to do longer vids, maybe you could put start of the tasting closer towards the start of the video. Then you could come back to the glass after a bit for a second impression?

Ralfy, No need to worry. Your reviews are the perfect length. There's never too much to be said about a fine malt.

You are exactly one of the things that make "RUclips" so neat and terrific; keep up the good work.

I don't mind adds at all because you provide very useful information. The more malts you can buy the more information we get :-p
Good that you've got the place drier and wamer, Ralf. Also, I don't mind the extra length at all.
It's always a pleasure watching your review but I'd stay to max 10 Minutes and not longer. Go ahead, my wife and I enjoy every single 'video' from you
Great review, I like the longer videos, more time for tasting notes.
ive actually been wating for longer reviews

Make the videos as long as you need to do a good review. Thanks for sharing another great whiskey!
Longer the better Ralfy!

I'm not the least bit concerned with the little bit of advertising. It goes to a good cause, after all. Hope it works out.
G'day Ralfy.
