  • A couple years ago my wife and I purchased a large old farm in far northern Maine. There are several large old fields on the 220 acres that have been fallow for 30+ years. Our goal is to restore some of these fields that once produced potatoes, into grassland. The grassland will provide habitat for bobolink, kestrels and other grassland species. They will be managed with delayed cutting in order to protect breeding birds and maintain the grassland structure. Two other fields will be maintained as brushy field which the moose love!
This is me using my 1955 Farmall 300 and six foot rotary cutter to reclaim one of the old fields.
