Great video! I love that you plan on keeping your new Jeep stock. I'm tired of seeing videos of Rubicon's with 37" tires, 4 inch lifts and custom suspension systems, etc. Most of us don't have limitless cash to drop on these mods. For me the ultimate video would be your new Rubicon, along with a Willys, Sport, and KL to see how they compare and in the real world.

Thank you so much! That’d be a great video and I’d love to shoot it… the difficulty is finding people with those vehicles who would want to wheel. I’m lucky enough that Davon and his girlfriend will take on my Rubicon with their new Broncos (his is a 4 door, hers is a 2 door… but they’re still waiting on them to be built). It might be tough to find someone with a stock 4 door JLUR willing to wheel it on a hard trail. Still, I know they’re out there. Making scheduling work is a big challenge for us as I work a lot. In the meantime, I try to focus on the trail vs the vehicles, but I get seeing different vehicles do a trail helps. Sorry if this hard to understand, I worked overnight and need a nap.

Biggest difference is all the aluminum. Pros: less weight, better fuel mileage, ride and wheeling abilities. Cons: dents like a beer can. All in all the JL is just leaps and bounds better than the JK. Rides better, wheels better, feels better. The improvements are very noticeable especially going back n forth in them as we do. Jenn does love her old rattle trap tho🤣

I bought a 2021 Hella Yella 2 door Rubicon myself. Pretty close to yours but I also have the tailgate reinforcement and the satin black grille. To me the Jeep looks really awesome with that satin black grille. I have kept it pretty stock except I opted for aftermarket bumpers front and back. I don’t want to take away the iconic look of the Jeep. I keep it pretty stock and enjoy it just the way it is and it’s honestly a blast. Thankfully I have mine garaged so in the summer I can keep the Jeep stripped down, tube doors installed and cargo net on the back so I can take the doggies with me.

I think they did a great job, the question mark is long term durability and reliability. Personally, I think it should be as good as the JK was and that gave me 9 relatively problem free years. Only recently had it been acting up even tho I think that is all sorted out. The suspension on the JLs is really incredible tho!

Yikes! I had an outside mechanic tell me I needed a new motor, took it to the Jeep dealer who confirmed he was full of it. Talked to some of my buds who knew the 3.6L and they all confirmed the dealer was right. However, the outside mechanic had my Jeep held hostage for 6 days and I work on call 24/7. My awesome co-workers in Grand Junction saved me. That event was what made me start looking into a trade in to go back to a factory warranty and theoretically if it needs something, free rental cars. It is disappointing a bit too tho, if I had time and not a stock based RUclips channel, this JK could be turned into a great built Jeep. Someone will get a great Jeep tho!

Congrats on the JL! John and I have come to find certain things aren't necessarily better than the JK:
    1. The 2-piece fenders on the JL are much more easily split when they get hit on rocks. I've had my JK stock fenders for 14 years, and although they have been hit, dented and pop off, they go right back on. John's JL fenders, although they went back on, they had split on the seam, making them look pretty worse for the wear...and this is only after 3 years.
    2. I understand why thy made the doors aluminum on the JL to make them lighter, but the drawback to that is how easily they dent. Again, after 14 years of use and abuse with my JK, I don't have any damage to my doors or sills, where John's JL is beat to hell. Again, it's only a 3 year old jeep. :-S
    3. The rear license plate on the bumper of the JL is the stupidest design ever. As soon as we saw that we knew instantly that it would be knocked off...and it was. We've also come to find that the rear bumpers don't protect the body as they should. John's JL got all sorts of corner damage on his tub.
    4. We also have issues with the top lever mechanism that folds the seat forward. The very first time I used it, it broke in my hand. You would think that anything "Jeep" would be more rugged and durable.
All in all, these are the few things we found that weren't up to snuff, but compared to the JK in other aspects...like speed off the line, overall driving performance, ease of soft top...it definitely has its good points. I'm sure you'll see the differences as you drive it. ;-)

Awesome info! I’ve been especially curious about #1 as I have tendency to take out my front passenger fender. John warned me about the rear steel bumper and that’s going to piss me off, but I wanted the front steel. I might add a protection barrier to the body in the rear as I don’t want to alter it from stock in any way for a while… except for lights! I am still running the stock headlights on my JK and yes they suck bad! I just can't justify spending over $100 for lights. The top end needed a rebuild which I did, otherwise nothing was wrong with it when I traded it in. My reasoning for trading it in was it was a 10 year old Jeep and my only vehicle… being an older Jeep, it needed to be built up if it was going to remain a reliable wheeler and daily driver. That went against the premise of the channel where I believe you can wheel them stock all over… so I choose to order a JL and keep it stock. If I had more money, I probably would have built the JK up, and ordered a stock JLU willys as my stock wheeler. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been off-roading for over 20 years and every new model gets built up more than the previous model. A stock JL Rubicon is a monster compared to what I use to wheel, so much that I think it makes trails a bit too easy (still feeling it out tho). I’ll likely be wheeling my mom’s Liberty more next year which will get a minimal build if anything. However, about keeping it stock… there’s so many advantages to doing this. 1) it’s my daily driver so it’s a perfect blend for wheeling and daily driving from the factory 2) I’ve never understood people saying Jeeps are unreliable and I believe it’s because I don’t alter it (20 years of Jeep ownership with rock solid reliability). 3) My warranty is completely intact as a stock vehicle… dealers/manufacturers will try to blame any issues on increased stress from mods even if that wasn’t the cause, I don’t have that problem. 4) Wheeling a stock vehicle on trails that your buddies tell people you need for 37s for is a lot of fun 5) Off-roading is about driver skill instead of vehicle capability to me, this is why I think the best driver in our videos so far is Davon in the blue Renegade. 5) I don’t have any time to build my vehicle (I’m on call 24/7, film and edit these with my off time, and have personal responsibilities). Building and not wheeling is a frustrating situation for me. Someone else will build my liberty so I can focus on wheeling and filming in 2022. 6) With time, I don’t have space to work on my Jeeps. 7) Finally, if I were to build something better than what I got now, it’d be extremely expensive to do it my way and I can’t afford it. Most people don’t build them how I’d build them. I appreciate the question and thanks for watching! Merry Christmas!

Great video, want to provide a bit of constructive critique. Lived in Denver my whole life, crime is always high in down town areas. My other issue was with the wheel section. The explanation is a little lacking. The idea of not liking a product based on visual taste should be made obvious. You could be leading people into buying rims that look just fine when they may not have a major issue. Are those jeep wheels known for cracking?

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  3 года назад

Thank you! Agreed, but I’m in a keycard access only garage. I’ve lived in worse crime places like downtown Memphis and I spent 5 years living in the area of Miami that a GTA game was based on. Still, I see your point. About the wheels, it’s just visual preference… and I think it’s a valid observation but most definitely an opinion. It is unlikely that any modern factory Jeep wheel will have those kind of issues and I assumed the audience would understand I was talking about appearance. My apologies for not making that clear. Thanks for watching!

Congrats on the JL Rubicon, which in my opinion is vastly superior to the JK. I had an '08 JK X 2 door with that 3.8 mini van engine on 33" Duratracs. It was a bad experience to say the least. I actually prefer my '06 KJ Renegade over that jk. It was great off road on 31" Duratracs. Anyway, your JL Rubicon has 33" tires stock with perfect stock height. There's absolutely no need to ever change it, ruining its geometry and more importantly your wallet. It's plenty capable and proves to all the misinformed that a modest lift and tires with good off road instincts allows you to wheel most anywhere.

Sounds like a dealer issue. I’d reorder from another dealership and not take what you did not want.

What color is it? Lol, I just bought a 2004 Rubicon so my next one will probably not be a wrangler. You should definitely watch my next video tho… my TJ vs my JL

If you are gonna lift and tires get a Jk or you have to go with a Jl rubicon. The jl sport doesn’t even have a Dana 44 rear anymore. Why I bought a gladiator,2 Dana 44s. If it’s gonna stay stock you might get away with a Dana 30 and 35, but my bud already has a replacement axle in his 2 year old jlu, cheesy axles

True, but all of the JL axles are all supposed to be upgraded over the equivalent JK axles. However only time will tell if they truly are. Lots of factors play a role in axle failure, but it’s definitely nice that Jeep put 44s on the JT. Thanks for watching!
