@@bijosn it was a win win situation forsure because he could have knocked out Pantoja, but UFC know even kick boxing legends can’t do nothing if they get submitted
Japanese fighters are still lacking that overall completion that other mixed martial artists in the UFC are able to achieve. EVERYTHING needs to be on point, not just striking or not just grappling. You could see the other side of this with Tatsuro Taira and his fight with Brandon Royval. Taira is a phenomenal grappler, but couldn’t dominate like usual when facing a more complete fighter. Same thing here, but the opposite.
That's nearly every fighter that's not in the rankings, whether a striker or grappler. There's always a lack of completion, especially fighters from other promotions that has different rules, like where Kai Asakura came from. It's not just japanese fighters, it's nearly every fighter outside of any rankings like the ranking of the UFC.
Chinese and Japanese fighters are at a big disadvantage because there is no wrestling kids can do from a young age, like in America and other places like Russia. You can learn wrestling for basically free, and it's even taught in school if you join the wrestling team. People don't understand how much of a grappling advantage you have over people if you start wrestling at a young age. Look at all the successful fighters coming out of Russia, a place where wrestling is everything, and it's taught in the youth. It's sad and actually unfair to Asian fighters coming from countries with little to no wrestling. You could say wrestling did not play a role in this fight, but actually, it did. If Kai is able to stop that takedown, Alexandre is never able to get to his back because the two of them would be standing, which is where Kai wanted to keep the fight.
Biggest difference is that the UFC has terrible rules which allows grappling to dominate. Upkicks should be fine it would be so much more exciting and realistic like a real fight
Position reset each round, gloves so strikers can hit more, canvas floor , cage is 50/50 it makes takedowns easy but getting up also easy(er), knees on floor banned (go see ONE champ to see wrestlers use that ruleset to full extent), and soccer kicks usually benefit the top guy (see kai's rizin matches). Upkicks have always been allowed so long as the guy on top isnt on his knees (thats how niko price ko'ed james vick), and kai was not in closed guard long enough to benefit from that upkick ruleset to actually change the match had it been allowed. Ufc's rules have been very beneficial for strikera if u contrast it to the 1990s original ruleset. Imagine if merab and belal played the no time limit match... they'd hold ppl down for 30-40 minutes....
@@pipagsock4205 upkicks are allowed excepy upkicks to the head when the other guy has both knees on the floor. So upkicks from bottom when other guy is standing is legal (price vs vick, reyes vs provchazka), upkicos from bottom towards non-head area of person with both knees on floor is legal (burns vs chimaev), only upkicks from bottom to someone also on ground (defined as , knee on canvas) is defined as illegal, and even then its actually just to prevent figtets from using rule loopholes to land soccer kicks

Kai has ordinary been fighting on bantamweight. However, this game was held on the contract as a title match of flyweight.
