that's way messed up. I just paid off a taylor guitar I bought last year and never looked at the actual statement. Sure enough they got me. Very dissapointing not to disclose it especially if you have had a gear card for years, a letter or email even would have been nice. Shady!!!! thanks for the info man! much appreciated!
Good job getting it paid off! I’m an excel nerd so I caught it immediately. Any guitar store credit card has this now. Sweetwater too. I learned to read after this 🤣
I just received something in the mail from Synchrony (Sweetwater) today about the interest rate going to 34.99% on purchases after 10/11. I’m sure one from Musician’s Friend is soon to follow so I’ll be tossing them in the pile to wither away with the old Guitar Center card.
It's definitely a Synchrony change...I received paper notifications on my Sweetwater and Sam Ash, as well as GC. Apparently we've been so "good" at paying our toys in full before the promotion end date, that they're not making any interest from us😂 Hence the up front promotion fee on anything over 6 months. My Sweetwater rep even texted me in case I wanted to order before the change 😂. Also, they increased the interest rate to 34.99%. Choose wisely 😁
I saw that interest rate spike! Holy crap I hope everyone pays their stuff off! I've had my card for probably 5-6 years and never paid a penny in interest! It'll stay that way! Damn us for paying our stuff off on time! That's cool your Sweetwater rep text you about it ahead of time! The 2% definitely isn't a deal breaker it's just a little less exciting now!
Anytime you get someone on the phone like that first guy, always ask to speak to a higher up. If that don't work, call back to get a new person to talk too. I don't blame you for looking into a $40+ charge. To many of them, and you've bought another piece of gear without getting it. They figured most people wouldn't notice and they'd get the extra charge. If at all possible, best to stick to 6-12 months on gear
For sure! Or cash lol. Sometimes something comes along that you have to jump on though so I love having it available. Half my weird random gear is because of their used options. Helps me find everything I’ve been looking for!
It will never happen that you'd order a drum set and you'll get two more 🆓️. I know it's annoying, it's only ten bucks, but at the 🔚 of the day, you'd feel if you missed breakfast or whatever. Namastè.
We need to negotiate everything we pay for honestly these financial sector frat boys are trying to take us for every penny we have through debt and interest.

Appreciate the info, was wondering why I was charged an extra fee with zero information on it
Happy to share. Not a big deal but wish it would have been a little clearer before hand. Sorry you had that too!
Always pay a little more than the bill and pay off before the promotional date ends, depending on the date.
Absolutely! I’ve never paid a penny of interest on it.

Isn't Musician's Friend and GC tied together somehow? You can find the exact same used item on each site........sister companies or something?
@@tyrannosaurusriffs Yes, I just bought a Dean V through Musicians’s Friend that was actually at a GC in Texas & used my MF card.
@@davej8045 I thought so. My MF card randomly closed years back.

@@tyrannosaurusriffs For real im still using a VCR just to avoid these streaming services. Audio and video quality on a 2001 VCR is quite good.

@@brianzulauf2974 makes sense! My kid has my 3 disc stereo from growing up so he's currently holding onto all of my cd's I collected 20 years ago.
