Ok, so not just picking my favourite artists, qoing with my top 10 TLM Listographies based on"
1. Quality of show/review from TLM
2. Positive impact of the discography on me
3. The learning experience with a new artist for me
4. Most fun/memorable shows/ listographies
10. Thin Lizzy - Sorry Joe, don't agree with you on this one. I really enjoyed getting to know a band i mostly ignored over the years, a mistake on my part. Wonderful band. Albums Bad Reputation, Johnny the Fox, Fighting , Jailbreak still high on rotation for me.
9. The Jam- One of my favourite bands but kudos to the TLM lads for a fairly respectful and professional job on a band they didn't know well.( and they were the Patreon poll winner so they didn't have a choice :) )
8. David Bowie- A mammoth task . A full Bowie discography can be a risk for a channel such as this but the guys handled it brilliantly.
7. The Black Crowes - One of the most entertaining reviews from the boys. And like Thin Lizzy, I got a kick out of getting to know a band i mostly , previously ignored. Had alot of fun going through their discography. Great band, great sound.
6. Mott the Hoople - This was one of Jason's greatest hours. His love for this band came through. Had a great time getting to know their music even more and picked up a couple of cool Ian Hunter recommendations from Jason in the comments.
5. Stevie Wonder- A key moment i believe in the TLM's progression. A universally lauded black artist given the TLM treatment. Shout out to Joe for being the inspiration, but great work by Jason and Kramzer who out of their comfort zones provided excellent support. Oh and a beautiful discography. A reminder of how great Stevie really was.
4. Peter Gabriel - Excellent review of his work. One of my earlier TLM experiences ( during the "Listography " era). Top class body of work from Gabriel when looked at in totality.
3. Supergrass - Really enjoyed this surprise (for me..wasn't expecting them to be a fave of the channel somehow) love-fest from all TLMsters. The band are a favourite of mine so that helped.
2. Black Sabbath - Always respected Sabbath but wasn't deeply familiar with all their work. The lads schooled me on their greatness. Great show.
1. Steely Dan- Another Joe labour of love but an excellent review and the discography of this band is of course immaculate. My number 1 TLM hour ( and a bit) . This week anyway.
My jaw dropped when Joe picked Tom Waits as his worst artist covered on TLM.
My jaw is now aching from grinning ear to ear after watching Joe pick Kate Bush as his favourite artist covered
👏😁💃
I assume there may be a few artists who would be above her on his favourites list, but this, as I see it, wasn't about that. It was the "discovery" of Kate Bush that put it top of his pile?
We all know about Zep, The Beatles, Radiohead blah blah blah (and Kate Bush in my case) but it's that discovery of something new, through your channel, that excites.
Keep up the good work 👍
This channel has meant a lot to me over the last two years, helping me get through a rough patch in my life, as well as introducing me to a lot of great music I have missed. I have watched most episodes, many even about artists I thought I didn't like, or still don't like. But I have learned so much more than I knew before. The fun weeks are the weeks where the boys disagree about the rankings, I like the strong opinions, and since you three are lifelong friends, then you know it won't affect your friendship. Thank you for your tremendous work, it really makes a difference.
Here are ten of my favorite episodes, either because I really loved the band, I learned a lot that I didn't know, or it was an enjoyable to watch the back and forth.
10. Eagles- Kram is right about how they are often overrated, but Jason quietly knows their strengths also.
9. Abba- Joe's joy in this episode is so infectious!! He's right about a lot of it!
8. Fleetwood Mac- Had no idea about the quality of their pre-Buckingham Nicks music, was really impressed after digging into this! A great find for me!
7. Byrds- Thanks Joe! Knew almost nothing except three songs by them. Honestly came away loving most of it! Perhaps my favorite discovery from watching the channel.
6. Billy Joel- The back and forth between Kram and Joe on their opinion of his music made for some contagious watching!
5. U2- I grew up on this music, so I really enjoyed the discussion. Seeing Jason come around on The Unforgettable Fire was cool.
4. Steely Dan- I love the Dan, so I was pumped for this week!
3. Bruce Springsteen- An early favorite of the trio. A great, long discussion of a music icon!
2. Squeeze- Honestly, this video seems a little rushed (I've watched it a few times) but the fact that you gave my favorite band a week of their own is something I'm forever grateful for.
1. Bob Dylan- I like Dylan, I don't love him, but the fact that Kram and Jason could break down so many albums so thoroughly and explain why they mean so much to them was a glorious learning experience for me.
I'm only going to count the ones you have done as a trio.
So honourable mentions - Squeeze, Simon and Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, Steveie Wonder, Neil Young, Supertramp, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Talking Heads, Steely Dan, Talk Talk, Radiohead, Abba and Joni Mitchell
My top 10 are
10 Peter Gabriel
9 R.E.M.
8 Fleetwood Mac
7 The Pixies
6 Bowie
5 The Police
4 Kate Bush
3 The Beach Boys
2 The Beatles
NUMBER ONE: (of course) THE SMITHS
Its been a year and a half since i started to follow Listography/taste like music. Your strength as a musical centered chanel comes from the dynamic between you three, your consiatency in quality of input! Anyway, been my favorite ever since the bob dylan video. Keep it up. All the thanks.
Very entertaining twin videos. I liked Jason's approach: being surprised by a new artist, or one we had previously neglected, is an exciting experience.
These 2 videos were great fun! Wonderful to see the variety in your choices. It shows that we can critique music in many different ways according to our individual criteria, but in the end it comes down to we like what we like and we don't like what we don't like.
This channel is one of my favorites and definitely my favorite music channel. I love all of your thoughts on albums and different artists. The amount of discographies you three cover is insane and I always feel that your insights are really brilliant and funny. I especially have to thank you guys for introducing me to Blur and Roxy Music who have become two of my favorite artists recently
Roxy Music - David Bowie & The Jam were my three favorites. Looking forward to Echo & The Bunnymen , Kings X & this week Siouxsie ! Really good channel guys with some really good regulars in the comments 👌
I would say the artist that I most enjoyed that y'all covered was the Beach Boys. Being that I am mainly a hard rock & metal fan I never really bothered much with them. After watching your video on ranking their albums I decided to dive into their discography a bit and give them a try. I was very surprised at just how many really good songs they have and I really enjoyed it to the point where I now have a chunk of Beach Boys songs downloaded to my phone. Much thanks!
Stoked for you dudes!! Made me appreciate music so much more and dive into artists I never thought I would. Thank you so much!!
Congratulations on 10K! Here's to many more.
Music, like all of the arts, is a never ending sea of discovery. Like metal detecting for the soul. I’m pushing the door of sixty now and still finding great stuff helped along the way by people like you. So thank you for pointing out some nuggets and congratulations on 10k. Sound blokes the lot of ya 🇬🇧
In no particular order, but memorable for me personally (more often than not because the lists intrigued me, or I was especially pleased that the band/artist was chosen)…
1 - Badfinger (Jason covered them upon my request back in the days he was flying solo)
2 - Todd Rundgren
3 - Pulp
4 - Pixies
5 - Supergrass
6 - R.E.M.
7 - David Bowie
8 - The Cure
9 - Dinosaur Jr
10 - Sonic Youth
Would love to see lists on the following…
1 - Prince
2 - Manic Street Preachers
3 - Ween
4 - Frank Zappa
5 - Cocteau Twins
I too would love to see Zappa and Ween.
My Top 10 of the artists you covered since Kramzer joined:
10. U2
9. The Beatles
8. Madonna
7. Radiohead
6. Steely Dan
5. Pink Floyd
4. Muse
3. Talking Heads
2. The Beach Boys
1. Depeche Mode
Good stuff Sir Eyeball. You know, if they ever did a Residents albums ranking, it would have to be a 4 part mini series.
Well done Joe for your number one pick. Saved the whole segment!
I am enjoying this channel so much I an having trouble revisiting the bands they talk about I have already heard or listening to the ones I havent
Congratulations again on 10K…speaks to the quality, consistency and pure work ethic…always investing in the channel to make it better! Looking at your overve, I still think Bowie week was the outstanding moment. Such an excellent presentation and discussion…I’ve gone back and watched those videos several times. Joni Michell and Rush weeks were great, seeing the passion and perspectives you all brought to those artists. Also loved seeing the respect for Bob Dylan…getting Joe on board and on record for a re-mix would be a tremendous session/discussion. Well done. JPE
I really enjoyed the Sonic Youth and Tom Waits listographies In particular. They’re two artists I’ve gotten the most into these last couple years (looking up Tom Waits rankings was how I came across this channel matter factly). The different viewpoints and tastes from everyone was interesting, and the struggle Joe faced during both videos was just HILARIOUS 🤣
Hey Jason, Joe, and Kram, congrats on 10k subs!!! So well deserved. Been with y'all since AOTY 1996, and it's so crazy how much y'all's channel has grown since then. Can't wait to see 10k more!
Huge congrats on the 10k gents. Not gonna comment on today's other video as I am trying focus on the positives. So keep on rocking, and go Gene Clark!
I like Joe’s take on this- best experience or discovery- would be fun to have all three review with that as assignment.
The best discovery for me was Pulp- I was unaware they existed and enjoy some of it.
Glad you all have such different tastes- congratulations on your channel.
Going through some giant discographies in one week is impressive 😳
Looking forward to everything coming…. This channel is so interesting
...forgot to mention the Byrds episode, I've watched that one 3 times, and purchased 5 albums based on it, what a great job on that one
Some of my favourites that I have done along with you guys or found great albums from after the episode are - Steely Dan, King Crimson, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Mott the Hoople, Gene Clark, The Smiths, Elliott Smith. In some cases I already knew the whole discography but it was great to revisit, in others I found some new albums I didn't already know and in some I found a great new artist that was new to me - in any case it was a great experience.
I'll give an honourable mention to Kate Bush because I wasn't around yet when you covered her but I love that episode and her discography. Joe's excitement in that episode is always a joy to see.
Just want to say that I really enjoy your channel! Thanks for all the genuine and great content!
Thanks!
1) Neil Young - you never forget your first
2) David Bowie
3) Black Crowes
4) Counting Crows
5) The Byrds
6) Pixies
7) Led Zeppelin
8) Pretenders
9) Pearl Jam
10) Pavement
They've done the Pretenders?? Somehow I missed that one.
I liked Joe's approach to this (mostly). Those bands or artists that did rise most during the segment!
Keep the show running!
Now to the positive side (and regardless of what you think of me, it is the majority of the videos), the top videos I loved watching the most, and it is not necessarily that those are my best loved artists, those are really the videos I loved to watch the most:
5. Dwight Yoakam - that was a brilliant choice of artist for the channel that is not a country lovers channel but for most people "I do not like country BUT....". The whole discussion around the topic of that we all find something in country music nevertheless (and rock music would not exist without it to start with).
4. Fleetwood Mac - this was great for really giving the non-Nicks/Buckingham periods of the band their chance and love, especially the enthusiasm of the Listographers for those earlier phases was a highlight for the channel.
3. Gene Clark - covering those "minor" artists that hardly ever appear in those top 10 lists but are really worth listening to at times is more interesting than just another Pink Floyd video.
2. Sonic Youth - Joe was not the only one suffering here, because I have albums as low as 0,5 stars from that band and up to 4,5, so there is a lot of bandwidth and a lot of aspects to cover - and the video did that.
1. David Bowie - 2,5 hours and not a dull moment. There is a different Bowie for all of us and never has that been better represented than by the three hosts on this video. Of course the quality and variety of the artist helps, but it was also that everybody's heart and soul was fully into it from beginning to end.
The Boys also deserve credit for doing COMPLETE discographies. A lot of channels will just do "top 10" Bowie albums, etc. Kind of a let down when that happens. "Worst" comments are usually the most entertaining . .
@@NaughtyVampireGod Another important aspect I forgot to mention is "own preparation and ranking" which is an extra fun. I know a lot of discographies beforehand but often just have a "gut feeling" for many of the albums if they are not the top ones. Doing some consequential ranking and rating has in some cases lead to some personal surprises, either proving that I value an artist much more than I thought I did or - the opposite case, that I got rid of an artist I thought I needed when in truth I always wanted to eliminate the discs but never dared.
@@roxannewalsh Excellent commentary! Recent example: I don't really like Siouxsie and the Banshees as much as I thought I did. The Blondie discography I could do in my sleep - but re-listened to everything anyway. The Shins discography was the most consist: 5 albums - each 4 or 4.5 stars.
@@NaughtyVampireGod This will be interesting tomorrow...Siouxsie for me were always a band that never made it to the top tiers (bit like Thin Lizzy) but I always liked them. This has not changed, but I was surprised how many of their albums made it into the 4 star or above territory.
@@roxannewalsh I thought there would be one 5-star album in the lot, but the highest i got was 4.5 with two albums to go.
Congrats on the 10k fellas! Love the channel. I think my favorite weeks were Bowie, Beach Boys and Stevie Wonder. Keep up the good work 🤘🏻
Love it! My favorite weeks were David Bowie, The Byrds, and Black Crowes. I found some new albums I was not aware of. Thanks guys, my favorite channel on RUclips.
My top 5 favorite RUclips channels right now:
1. Tastes Like Music
2. Trash Theory
3. Shutup & Play
4. Overly Sarcastic Productions
5. Todd in the Shadows
Don’t know your 3 & 4. I’ll have to check em out
@@TastesLikeMusic Imo, Shut Up & Play is the most definitive guitar "how-to-play-xxx" channel on RUclips. Overly Sarcastic Productions covers topics like history and literature in a very entertaining way- e.g. Pope Fights!!!
@@TastesLikeMusic I should've also mentioned PBS Space Time and PBS Eons, which do a great job covering physics and natural history.
Congratulations on 10K, gentlemen. I got back from a road trip today and was surprised by TWO videos from you. It's been exactly a year since I discovered this channel (what? lists? ranking? music? These are my people!) and it's been appointment viewing since.
My "best" listography artists are those that I may not have known much on but grew to enjoy through your reviews. Tops on that list would be Tom Waits and P.J. Harvey. Kate Bush, Talking Heads, U2, Roxy Music, Stevie Wonder and Gene Clark were a lot of fun and informative, too. Hoping Siouxsie and the Banshees makes the top 10 best when you update this!
I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your channel! I have just recently discovered it, oddly enough through Sea of Tranquility. I used to frequent that channel, but they are very limited in the range of artists they cover, and they repeat their discussions alot. You all have a wide range, more aligned to my taste. My top 10:
1. Beatles
2. Smiths/Morrissey
3. Cure
4. Depeche Mode
5. New Order
6. REM
7. U2
8. Rush
9. Pink Floyd
10. Led Zeppelin
Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Billy Joel, Ramones, Pixies, Elton John the Boss, Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Eagles just right after those.
Thanks and welcome!
I was very happy seeing you guys choose acts like Depeche Mode, Madonna, and Massive Attack cause they're always overlooked looking foward to see Siouxsie & the Banshees, Björk, and Fiona Apple
The Listographies I enjoyed the most(not necessarily coinciding with the order I favor these artists, but close)
1.Neil Young
2.David Bowie
3.Steely Dan
4.Joni Mitchell
5.Black Sabbath
6.The Velvet Underground
7.Led Zeppelin
8.Talking Heads
9.Mott the Hoople
10.REM
(Honorable mentions;Stevie Wonder,Pink Floyd,Peter Gabriel,Genesis,Tom Waits)
My favorites in no real order:
Tom Waits
Pixies
The Replacements
David Bowie
Roxy Music
R.E.M.
Pearl Jam
U2
The National
Elliott Smith
Some of the heavy hitters were done before I discovered the channel, otherwise the Beatles, Dylan, Zeppelin and the great Pavement might be on the list.
Great to see The Replacements get mentioned. Been my favorite band for some time.
Totally agree with The Replacements, my fourth favorite band of alltime, only behind The Kinks, The Beatles and The Cars. All three of the guys seemed to like the Mats. Westerberg is one of the best songwriters ever
My favorites that at least 2 of you have covered so far...
1. The Beatles
2. Bob Dylan
3. The Beach Boys
4. Led Zeppelin
5. Neil Young
6. Stevie Wonder
7. The Who
8. The Doors
9. Pink Floyd
10. David Bowie
HMs: Black Sabbath, Steely Dan, The Clash, U2, The Velvet Underground, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, Creedence Clearwater Revival, King Crimson, The Police, Talking Heads, R.E.M., The Smiths, Genesis, Tom Waits, Queen, Yes, Rush, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, The Band, Roxy Music, Metallica, Nirvana, The Jam, Peter Gabriel, The Replacements, Thin Lizzy, Blondie, Arcade Fire, Randy Newman
*Note: I would've also included The Rolling Stones (top 3), Elton John (honorable mention), and The Cure (honorable mention) but those were solo Jason videos.
Whammy - Four sames on the top 10. Not bad! When HMs are included that goes up to 10 sames as I count them.
No particular order but:
- The Beatles
- David Bowie
- Roxy Music
- Kate Bush
- Peter Gabriel
- Pink Floyd
- Led Zeppelin
- Depeche Mode
- Steely Dan
- The Smiths
ongrats on the 10000 subs from a long time follower
Great picks by everyone .
I saw Martin Barre and his band last night , and he was nothing short of sensational .
The man is a ferocious guitar player ( and his acoustic playing is beautiful )
He tore through the Jethro Tull back catalogue with reckless abandon .
It was interesting to hear him cover Ian Anderson’s flute parts with his electric guitar .
He brought out Tull’s original drummer , Clive Bunker , for the second set , which was the entire Aqualung album , and an encore with Teacher .
If he plays anywhere near your hometowns , do yourself a favour and go see him .
P.S. : Will we be seeing a week on Tull in the future ?
Thanks !
excited for this. love knowing your opinions lol
The Beach Boys will probably be on all three lists.
not on Kram's list 🤨
1. R.E.M.
2. Neil Young
3. Elliott Smith
4. David Bowie
5. PJ Harvey
6. Pixies
7. Roxy Music
8. Talking Heads
9. Peter Gabriel
10. Mott The Hoople
Close Ones:
Tom Waits
King Crimson
The Replacements
TV On The Radio
Gene Clark
The Beatles
Joni Mitchell
Radiohead
Arcade Fire
P.S. we need that XTC redux guys!!! Top 3 band of all time!
Yes, a proper 3 panel XTC ranking is in order.
Yes, another vote here for XTC!
I especially loved Joe's approach. I likewise discovered/rediscovered Genesis in a similar way. Finally gave them a solid 'listen' about 4-5 years ago and became a belated zealot. Great video gents!
I especially liked the Billy Joel discography (again, props to Sir Joe) and look forward to a Sir Elton remastering.
Jason, love the special shout out for It Makes No Difference. Thats a top 20 all time song by anybody for me
Have enjoyed all your lists, even if I don't always agree. So keep up the good work and hopefully you'll tackle the mammoth Kinks discography soon. In terms of artists that you might not know that much about, then any of the following would make for interesting weeks: The Stranglers, Hunters and Collectors, Kent, Cardiacs, The Small Faces, Smithereens, Go-Betweens, Richard Thompson/Fairport Convention, Billy Bragg, The Pogues, Divine Comedy.
I’ve got one of these on my radar for my upcoming month where I pick all of the artists. Still not sure if it’ll make the final cut but I’m intrigued. 😉 -Jason
interesting list 👍
I was amazed to find out you've not covered prince yet is there a chance he might be coming up soon or you would think of tackling the master I would love to see your rank the albums for prince I even tried to do it myself at one point difficult not impossible.
The ones I remember enjoying the most:
6- Joni Mitchell
5- Fleetwood Mac
4- Gene Clark (Great discovery)
3- Tom Waits
2- Randy Newman (Great discovery)
1- Neil Young
Congrats on hitting the big 10K! You deserve it! My Top 10 Favorites (since the K-Man joined) are:
1. Faith No More
2. Pulp
3. Depeche Mode
4. Yes
5. Radiohead
6. Tears for Fears
7. Abba
8. Genesis
9. Pink Floyd
10. Rush
Genesis in April, 2020 was the first full episode I watched, hooked ever since!
Fleetwood Mac- discovered the Welch, Kirwan era.
Roxy Music- new nothing about them other than Avalon- Now own a couple disc's and found a good copy of Stranded on vinyl.
David Bowie- only new the hits, Station To Station is a masterpiece. Carlos Alomar's a groove machine.
The Smiths- highly entertaining episode
Jethro Tull sometime this year perhaps?
Keep up the great work!
10 The Clash
09 Fleetwood Mac
08 Steve Wonder
07 Gene Clark
06 The Band
05 Black Sabbath
04 The Beatles
03 Elliott Smith
02 David Bowie
01 The Beach Boys (Awesome show and my all time fave band)
Really enjoyed Todd Rundgren. I was surprised Jason did the whole discography with the Utopia albums.
so cool elliott smth at no.3
Great stuff. Are you guys going to cover sparks? They have a large and eclectic discography some really fun stuff it could make for an interesting discussion.
Probably will at some point.
Interesting couple of series - however, I would have found them more interesting if they were showing your top rated disappointments & positive surprises. The way it was done here seemed to be mostly just you favorite bands (as evidenced by Jason's and Kramzer's top picks ) - Joe deserves a salute for not picking the obvious one there. (And yes, I have read the headline is "The Best artists..." etc.). Anyway, could be a suggestion for a another couple of shows once you're reach 20,000 subs. :-)
congrats TLM!
1. The Beatles
2. The Who
3. David Bowie
4. The Jam
5. CCR
6. Metallica
7. The Cure
8. Elvis Costello
9. Iron Maiden
10. The Rolling Stones
your top 3 are on my top 10
I'm using Joe's approach and listing the rankings I enjoyed the most and not necessarily the ones involving my favorite bands. Dwight Yoakam was the best because I re-discovered an artist who I had always liked but only listened to occasionally. BIG win there. R.E.M. was great. A fave band of mine but a really broad catalog that meant a lot of different opinions. The Jam because I ended up listening to more than In the City and Weller's work with the Style Council (my preferred band of the two). Really good stuff. Eurythmics because, unlike Jason, I liked them more than I thought I would. Same for Madonna and Whitney Houston. Not music I'd normally listen to, and still mostly don't, but a newfound appreciation for what they do. And the Pretenders and the Cars because they are also strong catalogs that I hadn't really given much thought to outside of the hits and the album rock radio hits. And I discovered that the Pretenders later stuff is well worth the listen! Thx, as always.
I'm proud of you guys, 10K is just the start... my favorite weeks were:
1. The Beatles
2. David Bowie
3. Roxy Music
4. Rush
5. Black Sabbath
6. Beach Boys
7. Bob Dylan
8. The Byrds
9. Tom Waits
10. Steely Dan
Like joe, i didnt just rank my favorite artists that you've covered.. i just recollected the listening experience matched with your reviews and where i was at the time.. Congrats again.. you rule
Thanks for all you do! How about a WEEN discography show? You might have a new top ten… : )
You have covered so many great artists that narrowing it to 10 is near impossible. Favorite artists often revolve around your formative years so my perspective is becoming obsessive about music in the early 80s.
David Bowie - Having said where my perspective comes from the 80s were not kind to Mr. Bowie. But you didn't have to look too far back to find those austere and wonderful Berlin albums.
Bob Dylan - For most of my adolescence I would have been in the Joe camp. Partially due to Dylan's output seeming sad and out of step and just plain awful at that time. By '89 and Oh Mercy, I had found my way through that magnificent 60s and early 70s catalog. Weirdly through a cover version of Absolutely Sweet Marie by Jason & The Scorchers.
Gene Clarke - Already a fan but still had albums I didn't know. TLM got me to dig into those. Thank you.
Tom Waits - Not a lot of love for him on the channel. But unlike Dylan and Bowie, Waits had a renaissance in the 80s. The one-two punch of Swordfishtombones and Rain Dogs had me hooked.
Joni Mitchell - The quality of her albums tapers off pretty significantly. But peak Joni, Blue through Hejira, are among my all-time favorites.
Radiohead - I was pretty indifferent to 90s Radiohead, but since 2000 and Kid A they have made challenging masterpiece after masterpiece.
Talking Heads - And following Radiohead the band that gave them their name! The first four Talking Heads albums are clever, inventive, and fun. And they introduced me to afrobeat and Fela Kuti, so just on that alone, they make the top 10.
Roxy Music - Again the first four albums are where the quality lies. Clever, inventive, and fun! No wonder Eno wanted to work with Talking Heads. Still weighing up whether to see them on their farewell tour.
The Velvet Underground - Again not a lot of love for VU in these parts. But similar to Jason's Beatles comment, a lot of the artists I love wouldn't be here without the Velvets. And like both The Beatles and Dylan they expanded the vocabulary of popular music.
The Band - For the longest time I would have said the self-titled second album was my favorite album of all time. It is still pretty close to the top. The first two albums are near perfect, Stage Fright can hold its head up and there are great tracks on all the remaining releases by the full line-up. Just check out Acadian Driftwood on Northern Lights-Southern Cross.
For future weeks, I recommend Townes Van Zandt, Marillion, Interpol, and redo The Cure please 🙂
Interpol would make me dizzy with glee.. help me campaign 😊
1... Beatles...
2... The Cure...
3... CCR...
4... ELO...
5... Roxy Music...
6... Simon & Garfunkel...
7... The Smiths...
8... George Harrison...
9... David Bowie... I still think his pre 'Lets Dance' are by far his best but this list did get me listening again even If I am still not that impressed with his latter career...
10... The Jam... I always thought I disliked the Jam but I always liked one or two singles, this bands catalogue was my biggest surprise of any you have done...
I agree that Bowie's one of those artists who has a pretty definitive dividing line between his good stuff and his not-so-good stuff. But from 1970-1983 he was consistently stellar. I'm glad you dug The Jam, they were kind of a revelation for me, too. I was never exposed to them in my youth but they might end up getting into my all-time top 100.
Those three number ones are pretty much impeccable. All amazing catalogues
It's fun hearing how diverse your 3 opinions are!
1. David Bowie
2. Talking Heads
3. Yes
4. Pink Floyd
5. Neil Young
6. Arcade Fire
7. Roxy Music
8. Steely Dan
9. Led Zeppelin
10. The Clash
These are my favorite artists covered so far. If the list were favorite shows, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, and Neil Young drop out.
1. R.E.M.
2. Oasis
3. The Smiths
4. The Beatles
5. David Bowie
6. U2
7. The National
8. Radiohead
9. The Clash
10. The White Stripes
I think every Bob Marley/ Wailers album from their formal debut in 1973 to their final album in 1980 can be reasonably rated at 4 stars minimum. From freedom fighters to investment bankers, everyone sings their songs to this day. Easily should’ve been included here.
Kram, you hit my two favorite artists: Neil and Bruce!
Damn, I forgot Pearl Jam and Boston. Boston could've gone on the other list too, but I put it on this one because it was so damn entertaining. It so good that I cried🤣
🤠 Congrats on the subscribers! Best list: Joe's....I reckon Stevie is #1.
The bands/artists which come to mind. XTC, although I remember this was a solo ranking, Blondie, King Crimson, Talking Heads, Steely Dan, Pretenders, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jesus and Mary Chain. Still waiting for New Model Army................. Please make the journey, it's worthwhile!
Excellent list as always, Sir! 😀 So . . the only one I am not really familiar with is New Model Army. Where should I start w them?
Thanks much Vampire God.. Thunder and Consolation or Impurity. Can't go wrong with either.
My top 10 Listographies:
10. Steely Dan
9. Stevie Wonder
8. Faith No More
7. David Bowie
6. Genesis
5. Yes
4. Talk Talk
3. Kate Bush
2. Tom Waits
1. King Crimson
I'd have to pick the bands that made me listen to an episode all the way through:
- Steely Dan (the first TLM video I watched)
- Beatles
- Neil Young
- Stevie Wonder
- Genesis
- George Harrison
- Fleetwood Mac
- Led Zeppelin
- Yes
- Roxy Music
The Listography episodes I enjoyed the most would be (in no particular order and I'm not talking about my opinions on the artist but my opinion on the episodes itself)
1. The Beach Boys - always fun when all three really enjoy an artist
2. Boston - one of the funniest episodes
3. AC/DC - watching Kram struggle to admit that he actually liked AC/DC was hilarious
4. Radiohead - Kram's utter love for Radiohead was joyous to watch. And Joe putting In Rainbows outside the Top 5 was both unexpected and totally expected.
5. Black Sabbath - this listography got me into the Sabbath catalogue so thanks for that
6. Rush - again, when all three enjoy the artists, it's great
7. Aerosmith - loved seeing how your guys opinion on the band went up by quite a lot.
8. Kate Bush - I don't really know her stuff besides Hounds of Love but watching Joe basically fall in love with her was heartwarming.
9. Eagles - Kramzer's hatred for the band and Joe and Jason both really liking the band made an interesting episode. I like the Eagles personally but I get why Kramzer doesn't like them.
10. Three Dog Night - I like Three Dog Night but watching Kramzer and Joe rip them apart while Jason watched on in slight sadness and accepted defeat was very entertaining)
1. The Doors
2. R.E.M.
3. The Beatles
4. Blondie
5. The Who
6. Pixies
7. The Jesus and Mary Chain
8. David Bowie
9. ABBA
10. Muse

Jason: 2/10 (Beatles; Bowie)
Kram: 1/10 (Bowie)
Joe: 1/10 (ABBA!)
I should've put Blondie in my honorable mentions. I like their early stuff a lot.
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 nice - I've always been a huge fan - -even some of later stuff is good but not at the same level
Whenever I come across that yellow, thirsty Vampire God logo, I know that a brilliant listing will follow.
My approach is the episodes that i was entertained or learned the most from
1) Black Sabbath
2) David Bowie
3) Arcade Fire
4) Counting Crows
5) U2
6) The Cars
7) The Smiths
8) Fleetwood Mac
9) Springsteen
10) Yes

Honourable mentions to Roxy Music, Blondie and Iron Maiden. . I love some Led Zeppelin songs but overall they don't quite connect with me.
In no particular order, except for Kate Bush, she's always my number 1, has been since I was 16. Joe, welcome to the KB fan club. It's so good to see you get into her music like this .
Just hanging around, waiting for my heroes...👏♥
😎👍
Hi guys, I'm running a bit late but I didn't see this video before, my best 10 would be as follows: 1)Bob Dylan 2)Neil Young 3)Joni Mitchell 4)Gene Clark5) The Byrds 6)Simon and Garfunkel7) the Beatles 8)Beach Boys 9)The Band 10)Stevie Wonder
Even though I didn’t agree with much of what was said, I was happy to see you guys do Oasis. A vastly underrated band in America who are much more than Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. And of course, The Beatles. The GOAT band.
Please do Midnight Oil..
yes, midnight oil is more than worthy!!!!!
I have my own RUclips channel about ranking music, which has been going for over a year now. I'm currently going through the top 10 albums of every year (almost finished that series) and I now have my own small but dedicated fanbase, which is cool. But I wouldn't have started down that path without the inspiration from you guys. So yeah, Chuchu is a Ranker wouldn't exist without Listography / Tastes Like Music. So thank you so very much for the inspiration. My favourite list of yours will always be the one I watched first and then immediately subscribed, which was Billy Joel. I loved Joe. I hated Kramzer. But it was so damn fun with the spread of opinions. Ironically, as time has gone by, I recognize that the person I'm closest in general parity with is actually Kramzer. We generally see eye to eye. But not on Billy Joel. Billy Joel rules, Kramzer!!!
I'll check out your channel.
Would like to see Boz Scaggs and Hall & Oates.
The episodes I found the most interesting/entertaining:
ABBA
Boston
The Beach Boys
Also, would love the hear a producers discography. Imagine Jimmy Miller or Daniel Lanois. That would be interesting. Was blown away when I realised Miller's last was Screamadelica, which is in my top 10 90's albums,
I'll just lay out my usual suggestions for the future...Kinks, Van Morrison, Duran Duran, ZZ Top, Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead, CSN(Y), remaster Rolling Stones, remaster KISS...
I really like the open minded spirit. Really refreshing to hear good words about Christian Dylan albums. Saved and Shot Of Love are really great records. Kramzer makung the case for cut the crap and Still Crusin.. i really enjoyed that Beach Boys episode. Keep on cooking. It’s a great show.
Looks like everybody posts their favorite bands list, haha. So I moved in slightly different direction.
Artist/bands that I didn't like/know before they were covered here, in no particular order:
▪︎ Tom Waits;
▪︎ Siouxsie and the Banshees;
▪︎ The Beach Boys.
HM (and special thanks to Joe!): Stevie Wonder (perhaps the best non-rock artist ever.)
Though it was a small discography, one of the best ones was Elliott Smith. I actually got teary-eyed when Jason and Kram discussed From A Basement. Also really liked King Crimson because you guys were a bit out of your comfort zone. And Joe, sorry but I enjoyed Tom Waits week
Tom Waits was better to talk about than listen to. - Joe
1. Stevie Wonder
2. David Bowie
3. Rush
4. Black Sabbath
5. Beach Boys
6. The Byrds
7. The Cars
8. Iron Maiden
9. Peter Gabriel
10. Steely Dan
Any Death Cab coming up any time soon? Also they only have the 5 albums, but The War On Drugs?
I’m excited!
I boarded the train at The Smiths & I’m enjoying the transcontinental ride. These are the episodes that delighted me, triggered me and made me question my musical choices.
Conduct on!
Pulp
The Smiths
Daft Punk
Jane’s Addiction
Massive Attack
PJ Harvey
David Bowie
Roxy Music
U2
The Stooges
The best thing about this channel is that you can use the lists you like best to revisit artists you like but haven't fully exhausted. For example I knew about 50% of Bowie's catalog and 50% of Rush. I like both bands but where to start with the best albums I missed? This channels allows me to separate the wheat from the chaff. For the next few weeks I will be pairing a Rush Album with a Bowie Album, this week The Man Who Sold The World paired with Fly by Night next week Scary Monsters paired with Grace Under Pressure. But I could just as easily be listening to Tonight paired with Test for Echo. That would be tragic.
My top 10;
My top 10
1.Pink Floyd
2. The Beatles
3. Led Zeppelin
4. The Who
5. U2
6. The Smiths.
7. Guns n Roses
8. The Rolling Stones
9. The Pixies
10. Talking heads
I don't have a bottom ten but Sonic Youth would be my least favourite.
Favourite discussion was Boston hands down. Hilarious analysis of their last couple of albums.
If you like Talking Heads and Bowie, Adrian Belew's solo work is underappreciated. Agree with Kramzer about Bob Dylan - not one bad album over all these years and the first decade simply phenomenal. Rush is great, agreed, but they lost something after Grace Under Pressure.
The one I've liked the best so far...the beatles (of course)...e.l.o..slogging through neil young and stevie wonder's massive discography.. radiohead..(I actually bought hail to thief on vinyl after that one...cool)..pink floyd...elvis costello...bowie as well...I plan on doing a deep dive into pulp as I am somewhat ignorant to their music right now. So thanks for that...always looking for something different that strikes a chord with me...so I played ordinary people..(it was smart and rocked)...thats just off the top of my head so far...hope kramzer is feeling better...cheers
Forgot gabriel and roxy music...great stuff
In no order my favorite list:
Stevie Wonder
Radiohead
David Bowie
Steely Dan
Soundgarden
The Replacements
The Beatles
Alice In Chains
Nirvana
REM
Not going with all-time favourites, but rather artists that were either completely new, where I only knew a couple of songs/albums or didn't like them that much initially. All of these got five stars and some even a handful.
10. The Stranglers
9. T. Rex
8. Mott the Hoople
7. Gene Clark
6. The Smashing Pumpkins
5. Black Sabbath
4. Siouxsie & the Banshees
3. Kate Bush
2. Fleetwood Mac
1. Cocteau Twins
stevie wonder, joni, beatles, bowie, talking heads, king crimson. and i just realized belew played in 3 of those
THANK GOD stevie wonder is up there! easily one of the greats!
