From what I've heard and read, this song is about the time in Corey's life when he was homeless. So I get why there was angry Corey, to represent how he felt during that dark time in his life. P.S. is I could suggest one Slipknot song it would be Gehenna, extremely underrated and it has all the Corey Taylor vocal styles
technically, this album was released in 2002 with the track Bother added, I had a copy on CD from right around the time Slipknot was solidifying their line up - pre Corey, and as you listen to Corey's vocals on this album it is easy to see why he was invited to join Slipknot, by the time he was invited to join, Stone Sour and Slipknot were the two most popular bands in Des Moines, but Slipknot was getting more attention by the main rock radio station as the group was unique and one of the DJ's was pushing them as hard as she could without getting herself fired, the wiki page doesn't list any of Stone Sour's pre-Roadrunner recordings, and there were two other demo/independently released albums prior to this in its original form - which didn't change that much other than Jim Root going in and re-recording the guitar parts
I think I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you. While I would say angry Corey is definitely not always necessary. I think in this instance it’s important because it shows the emotional arc of his inner turmoil. Quiet reflection, sadness, and finally anger. Just my opinion though. It’s always interesting to hear different perspectives.
The song is about him being homeless and on drugs and how he felt inside and how people reacted to him and how people react to the homeless in general.
Written may also just mean like the structure, instrumentally and whatever not. I would find it really hard to believe after all these years that corey had no writing of any partof these lyrics - they're smothered in him haha I also like to think of this song as a little brother to Sulfur, as the chorus' strike a similar cord in my opinion :P
I think Corey actually wrote the lyrics but Shawn and the others wrote the music. Because from what I know about Corey…. This is just so him!! I love this song one of my favorite when they play it live :D
Just to correct your assumption that Clown had a hand in writing this song - the "Shawn" listed in the songwriting credits is Shawn Economaki, the original bassist, not Shawn "Clown" Crahan. The only other Slipknot/Stone Sour member was Jim Root.

Hesitate should be your next Sour choon. Just thought I'd chip in my two pennorth.
I freaking love this song! I don't know if you've heard this one yet, but you should listen to Gone Sovereign / Absolute Zero
