For those that have asked what the song was at 1:01 - that's from one of the ActiveMelody lessons, so you can learn how to play it if you want :) - Here's a link: www.activemelody.com/lesson/blending-the-major-minor-pentatonic-scales-in-3-zones-on-the-fretboard-guitar-lesson-ep530/
What a great video. The guitar purchase was great but to see you out with the boys on a roadtrip was really fantastic. A little glimpse into the "Life Of Brian" LOL. Ben did a GREAT job of editing. He's got real talent. Yes please, more of these videos!!!
That is a beautiful thing, to see a guitar well loved being handed off to a lover of guitar. Non-guitarists cannot understand the way a guitar carries the affection of the owner.
I thought maybe this was a story of “bought it and kept it under the bed” especially with the condition. But then the pics and the story - this man had a whole life with this guitar. Over 60 years! I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been to part with it, but you can tell he took solace knowing this special guitar will carry on a new life with a special custodian, who’ll care for it the same way but more importantly continue to entertain and be an instrument of teaching. I think that’s really special. You can’t take the guitar with you when you part this globe and it’ll outlive us all, so he couldn’t have done better in selling it on to you Brian. It’s got a special tone and can’t wait to hear it in the lessons! And special thanks to the good man for sharing some tales of the guitar and the pics! The pics are like extra original hang tags, or even better.
Love to see your collection sometime. This was great to see. I sold my 1967 Gretsch Tennesean I got for my 16th birthday in 1971 to buy a stupid motorcycle. I have regretted it ever since. I have looked for it many times in Poughkeepsie NY where I sold it. I'm 73 now and still have the original purchase receipt. I have never forgotten that guitar!
Brian it would be really great if you would take us through your collection, you have some absolute gems and the brilliant thing is you play them. Cheers
Along with others, I'd love to see more videos like this. Not just for the gear insights, but to see you away from your lesson environment. As a Premium member for over five years, you are as much of a star of the show as your content.
Wow so cool to see you and your sons on a cool adventure , I love the journey to new gear, it’s fun and memorable. One of your sons may end up with this guitar 25 years or more from now and they will remember this too. Very cool Brian. Thanks for sharing 🎸
In 1969 my parents bought me my first real guitar. A new 1968 Fender Bronco with the Bronco amp. My guitar teacher had a 335 with P-90’s. And a Bigsby. In cherry red. I own several vintage Fender and Gibson guitars. However I’m on the hunt for a 335 with P90 and a bigsby. This video brought me back to 1969-70 Thank you.
Very nice! I look forward to hearing it during lessons. I also would have liked to hear the gentleman play it before it left his possession. Nicely done.
I still have my 1967 Guild Starfire V lefty and it would be virtually impossible for me to part with it. While other kids were sacking groceries or waiting on tables in a restaurant, I was playing in a Rock n' Roll band! I put myself through the first 2 years of college with it. Sadly it was involved in a bar fight while we were on break and the face was damaged. There was no internet and I couldn't find anyone to refinish it. Finally I found a man who restored old pianos but he had no way to duplicate Guild's beautiful cherry color so it was changed to black and has remained that way since 1968. It is as much a part of me as my right hand and will be forever. I can only imagine what the man felt when you drove off with it but on the other hand he will be very proud and delighted to see your lesson using it. Despite what people may say, some things are truly imortal!
Brian I have watched you off and on for years and I never knew you had a family. Thanks for sharing and taking us along for the ride. Before you opened the case I imagined myself in that situation and got excited! I would love to see a walk through of your guitar collection.
WOW Brian! I want to Thank you and your Son(s) so much for creating and sharing this cross state rare guitar find. That guy took really great care of it much the way I do mine. Congrats! Tim 🎸😎
Wonderful story and video, Brian. It made me sad to think of the original owner parting with such a prized possession but it's in good hands. Loved your son's choice for the road trip music. Made me think there's probably a market for your incredible catalogue of compositions as background music for the myriad of home reno and gardening shows on cable T.V. Get your music out there. Could be another project for the boys. Just a thought.
This is great Brian. I really enjoyed learning the story of the guitar and your respect for its previous owner and the guitar itself. I’d love to see more of these types of videos please 🙏
What a great guitar story, Brian. And congrats for your son, doing his first great road movie. A movie about his father finding a new love! Great stuff!
Really cool video. Some of us have wives that have a number limit on our guitars. Getting that vicarious fix of you buying a guitar was actually very satisfying.
What a nice man, great stories love all the old pictures of him playing in bands. It must be hard to part with the guitar, but it’s in good hands and will be used to teach people guitar on youtube
Great video, and lovely to hear the history of the guitar direct from the original owner.....fantastic! And as other comments mention, it would also be great to see some of the guitars in your collection!
YES! Absolutely keep doing videos like this. Don't get me wrong, I love your lessons and am a happily-paid member, but behind-the-scenes look at peoples' passions and projects are always fascinating. Looking forward to more. Thanks!
Ok ! Absolutely beautiful 335, amazing save from the fire backstory, and yeah, great job putting video together by your son, and a very enjoyable story/video ! You sounded very good also ! 🎼👌
Great show Brian. Well done Ben. Looking forward to seeing more of it in this week's lesson. Would like to see more of these and maybe some insight into your vinyl set up and collection.
Great story and yes, please do more like this about instruments and their history. It was interesting to see what you played when you were checking it out. Suspect those choices go to your comfortable place and favorites. At least for this style of guitar.
that is amazing it looks just like my 1963 epehone casino with out the bigsbeeee i wish i had ...beautful guitar .. big thank you to Ben for the Excellent work on video realy master Craft there you are a very blest man Brian Beautful Guitar thank you all for shairing supper cool
Lucky you Brian. It's a dream guitar. Sounds pretty good in the fender amp. Ring like a bell. Happy day. (nice driving Andrew, great job Ben for the video.)
Wow, very cool guitar! Definitely do more videos like this. It would also be great to see your collection and hear about each piece, how and when you got it, etc. Bring on the guitar geekery! 😎
That's a great acquisition to your guitar family. I can't afford a Gibson ES, so I bought an Epiphone ES and just love it! Enjoy it, and I look forward to some great lessons with it!
What's remarkable is the condition of this guitar , it was well taken care of , it's great that it will be continued to be played, not stuffed away in a warehouse of guitars, your young lad there did a brilliant job with video , must of been fun drive , who was the DJ on the trip , look forward to the video lesson with the guitar, I
a unique and nicely made video showing a very important transition point in life, also an emotional and sentimental moment. the owner will be feeling he has done the right thing because the guitar sound is going to reach many, inspiring those listening to the lessons, for years to come. i checked in the AM website but this video is not seen. i accidentally came across this during search. may be you should have a menu line "blogs" or something in AM site where such media is posted so that members can see. good wishes, brian. may this guitar with a great legacy continue to reach far and wide through you. Unni from India/ AM member.
Thanks for sharing that story. I have wanted a Cherry 335 since we visited my wife's Uncle's house (early 70s) and he was playing his Cherry 335. A cool guitar, and who knows, one day I might buy one.
What a great find... years ago, I use to jam with a guy that had the same guitar (1961 same everything) I always wanted it. I can enjoy it through your lessons and playing. Besides, you play way better than I can.😁🎸
Oh wow, what a great family trip that must have been!!! 🚙🎸❤️ Great to see the backstory on this gorgeous Gibson acquisition and hopefully we’ll see more in the future!
Great video! And the editing was great, it really told the story well and pacing was spot on. Would love to see more of these, as long as the instructional vids keep coming :)
Thats my Pops! Kinda sad to see him let it go. Watched him play it all my growing up years. But..now he doesn't have to worry about saving it from another fire. Lol. Great video sir. Enjoy.
wow, that's awesome. Your dad is one cool dude. We spent a lot of time with him looking at old pictures and listening to his stories. His guitar is in good hands!
Really enjoyed this video. It's a great story, always nice to see a man pick up a much-wanted guitar, especially an oldie! (The guitar not Brian 🤣) Production was great too, really professional. Hope to see more like this!
Congrats Brian, beautiful guitar for sure and the man that you bought it from seemed like a great guy. My late cousin had a 335 almost identical to this one minus the Bigsby and his was a 1960. Hands down, it was the sweetest sounding 335 that I've ever heard/played. He played a C&W chord melody style similar to what you played minus the alternating bass It would be interesting to know what the value of the pots are; the newer Gibson guitars are almost always 500k but for some of the older guitars, Gibson used 300k for both volume & tone controls, which cut more of the high end from the tone

The one that starts at about 6:00 is EP568
Great to see you beat Mr Bonamassa to it! What a fine guitar. Congrats! 👏👏👏👏
Joe is the Blackrock of guitars
I find Bonamassa to be unlikeable.
Or Norm's guitars , as I mentioned in my comment at least the guitar will not be stuffed in some warehouse, it will be played , as it should be
well done…you ought do this as a series…every so often…ridin somewhere to buy a guitar…
