He said at the beginning that high IQ doesn't make a difference while low IQ can make one etc. okay when he claims that did he talk with people from both parts of the spectrum? How is IQ even measured/what is it trying to measure? Why doesn't/does it make a difference in certain areas in life? What is the standard deviation of IQ from those tests, are they really accurate etc. is information he probably never researched one minute in his entire life before his ADHD kicked in talking about a topic he has little to no understanding about, and it happens all the time. It literally happens ALL THE TIME. You don't need to be an expert when it comes to IQ to understand that he is talking straight out of his ass (as he does for everything which remotely has something to do with science).

    My problem with iq is that it is meant to represent a single ability which explains achievement in completely unrelated cognitive tasks. Even though iq is very predictive of performance on these tasks, calling iq an ‘ability’ seems conceptually incoherent when you think about what an ability actually is.
    In order for an ability to be exercised, there must some essential feature of that ability which shows up in all the tasks it is exercised in: for example, quantitative reasoning is an essential feature which shows up in all mathematical tasks, and thus indicates an underlying ability (mathematical aptitude). This doesn’t apply to iq, and the reason for this is actually by design - the g factor was constructed to explain the correlation between all cognitive tasks, irrespective of their relatedness to each other. But what this means then is that the concept of ‘intelligence’ in iq testing is inherently undefinable in terms other than its generality, which sets it up for failure if the goal is to measure an aspect of a person that actually exists.

    • @mikedang3613
      @mikedang3613 11 месяцев назад

      There are subject exclusive evaluations. You can see your results per subject before they are compiled to find a mean g factor. This is a moot point.

    • @hihello-sx1sx
      @hihello-sx1sx 11 месяцев назад

      @@mikedang3613 Not sure you’re getting my point here, I’m not denying that there are multiple subjects that are used in compiling your IQ score. I’m saying that your performance in those individual subjects cannot be explained by a single underlying ability, given the fact that the subjects themselves lack common elements between them, which is something you’d expect to see if one single ability is being used within each and every one of them. The whole premise of g and IQ testing presupposes the existence of this single ability, so the idea seems untenable to me from the get go.

      @@rushyscoper1651 yeah. Motivated is a really good point too. I think they have a lot of overlapping qualities. The major difference is that motivation has a lot more independence from people than passion as a concept.
      I think the way to add onto my idea of passion being a major mark of success is by adding that “good character” is needed to be successful. That’s not really true though.
      To add onto your idea of motivation being needed, it is only important to have the right motivation. That’s really hard to find the right motivation though because everyone starts at a different direction. The right idea comes from knowing where their at and what works.
      I think one thing that’s important to note though is that both any measurement of passion along with measure of motivation would correlate more closely to economical wellbeing than intelligence. Just passion has more of a financially profitable focus than the undirected idea of motivation, but motivation incorporates the idea of good character more easily to it. I am not sure how much character connects to success though in real life. I don’t really see that actually taking place.

Guitar and having a good time because that’s what’s important in life. Being real and healthy. A person with an 80 IQ that’s nice and wholesome is going to live a better life than a 130 douchebag.

    IQ is useful on a population level but not very useful for most individuals.
    If you’re not stupid (or a midwit), you realize that a score and correlations can’t possibly determine your ability, it’s merely a prediction. It can even be a good predictor, but why would you ever rely on a predictor when you can observe?
    It’s like trying to determine your ability at playing basketball by height when you can just play basketball and figure it out instead of trying to predict. So it goes with its _correlations_ with income, academics, life expectancy, etc. It’s merely a predictor when an individual can just observe the variable in question.

    Among other reasons, a multiple choice question test to measure IQ is absolutely moronic. You have a 25% chance on guessing on an answer and getting it correct. Also the lack of knowledge hardly implies that you are less intelligent than someone else. Someone who hasn't had much schooling could have a much much higher capacity for learning than someone that has had the schooling. IMO standardized testing is hot garbage and needs to go away.

    • @buckbuckleyson2259
      @buckbuckleyson2259 Год назад +1

      The standardisation removes the bias that comes from multiple choices. Your iq is showing when you say 25% chance of guessing correctly because usually there are 6-8 answers on these tests too. But it's not a tally of points, it's weighted to have a distribution. Do I need to explain more or are you understanding now?

    the fact that having low IQ in our society means that you are a waste of time to teach is, like xQc said, more harmful to children and culture than not even measuring IQ at all. idk maybe if we worked on making specific tests for specific skills that would help kids see what they're good at, we'd have more grown adults who are good at jobs they love.

      You raised a fair point and proposed an alternative gj. But you can’t dismiss iq completely, it does measure your ability to solve problems and how quickly you are able to do it. Intelligence is one of the most fascinating things and people dumb it down so much it’s sad

    • @PikChouk
      @PikChouk Год назад +1

      @@M00ONTAGE yes but people usually tend to relate iq to intelligence when they really shouldn't, someone smarter doesn't especially have a higher iq compared to a dumb person, those tests are there to calculate your "potential", your strenght and weaknesses, not so much anything else. It shouldn't be used to compare two people beceause it simply isn't made for that

    • @hablo_papøl
      @hablo_papøl Год назад

      @@PikChouk there is definitely correlation between smartness and IQ scores. many iq tests literally test your skills in vocabulary, mathematics, spatial reasoning, memory and so on and the score you get is directly dependant on your performance in these areas, so people with higher IQ are definitely smarter in general than others. nevertheless iq measurements do not grade your performance at individual tasks or skills, people who test higher IQs arent more skilled at everything, rather they are better at most things than people who test lower because they simply are better and faster at learning than people with lower IQs.
