When Dinsmores made the first banksticks with a screw end to penetrate hard banks they were great. Much wider diameter tube than modern ones, but they'll go through anything barring a solid concrete bank, so long as you have the strength to twist them. I still have a couple.

Fox bank sticks are pretty good. They come with a lever for extra torque, and a sharp cutting thread. Need to cover the tip or it'll work its way through your bag.

@@borderlands6606 Got four of them. The original Dinsmores had a lever also. I wonder where Fox got that idea from. 🤔
TIP: Put your banksticks in your bag upside down! Then the points won't go through the material. Don't tell. 🤫

One of the few swims to totally defeat me was on the upper Thames above Newbridge on a stretch called 'Pickford's' where I had a cotswold stone ledge underwater in about 6" of water. I can't remenber how I got around it, maybe I emptied my box and sank it in the water?

Ingenious stuff. I try to take the minimum gear necessary to do the job, which can get silly as I forgot my catapult the other day. There's usually somewhere to set up a bait waiter on the daftest of swims.

Use an ESP "bum bag" for single baits like maggots and it holds the catapult. I move a lot. Like the towel.
