My dad used to rent a shop premises, which was the dampest building I ever saw. It had a cellar as in this video, with rivers of damp around "drains" at the edge. The cellar had open stairs to the shop above, which had very large glass display windows. In winter, when the minimalist "heating" was on (calor gas radiant heaters which seem to spew damp into the air?) you could not see into the shop from outside. It was riddled with damp, and you could smell it when you walked in. When it rained and people walked in with wet feet, the floors would be damp for days. Horrible building, which I imagine could have been easily made good.
Just finished a similar job yesterday, No HEATING, NO VENTILATION, Broken windows in various areas, lagging missing in areas of loft and some iffy ventilators cut into the ceiling of every room up stairs so direct cold Air coming in form the roof space. Clothes are being hand washed and hung to dry all over the house.. We surveyed this property in August, which we found a couple of areas of damp . We highlighted the lack of extractors. But wasn't told by the Tennant about the heating and windows didn't work . So December cold as you like the house is streaming with condensation . Which doubled are work schedule But also highlighted these areas... We managed to get the heating sorted 2x AA batteries 🤯 .. everyone is suffering from condensation issues more than ever as more people just cant afford to heat and and dry there property
Owner absent for three months, no heating, no extraction, no ventilation!? You're a better man than me Simon 🤣🤣 its why I always, if I can, try go full height, better, warmer surface full height and no chance of creeping above (even though it hasn't)
Totally understand, there was nothing wrong with what we did and if she had adequate ventilation this wouldn’t be an issue. Lessons learned though I’m not the finished article yet.
Hi sam, watched a fair few videos and have a couple of questions if you get chance to answer? I’m going to use the dry rods on a couple of our kitchen walls with rising damp. This has been diagnosed by a specialist but doing it myself as I’ve seen your videos and don’t have the money to pay someone. After the rods go in, I was going to liquid DPM the bricks before I pu foam the boards back on just for belt and braces. I know this may not be necessary but I’m just trying to save anything going wrong and it coming straight back through. Whether it’s necessary or not, will I be ok doing this or would it cause any issues? Also, the house is cavity walls and the inside mortar level will be much higher than the outer skin. Will i be okay rodding the inner skin and then the outer skin at a lower level? Otherwise the external level will be half way up the wall if i match it with the internal level? Many thanks sam!!
So is opening widows not adequate? The part open window causing condensation because of the cold air coming in rather than air being sucked out with a fan?
@@295walk I’ve not assumed anything. The window is knackered and won’t close so permanently open yet the problem is inadequate ventilation? I was asking a question not making a statement.
Can’t afford it ??… but been away for three months , where the Caribbean 😎…yeah, we can all play that tune !! 😝🤣🤣

Looks like vinyl silk paint as well minimising any transfer of water vapour, aiding the condensation forming 🤔
I always go and rectify if a customer needs it, good to see other people like your good self doing the same 👍
Thanks brother 👍
You're a true professional Sam. Love these videos.
Thanks John, love getting great comments. I’ll try make more better ones

Totally agree, the right companies will make a lot of money in the next 10 years.

Hi, if it’s a cavity wall has it not already got a physical DPC.
I wouldn’t liquid DPM the wall

Cold air doesn't have to mean mean damp air? . If it was vented well it shouldn't be a such an issue .

@@davep9096 you've assumed cold air caused condensation.

@@davep9096 The window open isn't the same as airflow or exchange so in my opinion its no it isn't adequate .
