cant wait for 5 graphically impressive cave paintings
A personal favourite of mine is "OOGHA BOOGHA" by AAURH UUH
Mr. Peanutbutter ah so atari 2600
Kenetic Kups Atari 2600 best graphics = Solaris, 1987. It's looks like Star Fox to me.
5 graphically impressive porn games.
Bubsy 3-D? 🤣
The second one actually looks like a GBA game wtf
More like ds
Cannon Fodder?
I'm clicking on this again just to comment on it, because I forgot to this morning. You should do a 5 Graphically UNimpressive series for the PS4 or something - any system known for its visuals. I have three games in mind for the PS4 already...
(is Black Tiger one of them)
But of course!
I was going to say dumpster bear but then I remembered it's on the wii u
the parappa 1 port though the original had badly colored graphics anyways
The Golden Bolt's Game Reviews I think this is an interesting idea, but the problem is technology moves forward quite fast so what is known for graphics changes with the times, and while things that are technically impressive for one reason or another are pretty easy to spot and show, stuff on the other end of the scale leaves too much open, since something that is very aesthetically pleasing but keeps within it's bounds or isn't interested in pushing boundaries (or even is made with different kinds of boundaries in mind, like Retro City Rampage) will qualify for that kind of list. It also would probably come off as kind of negative, mean-spirited, and way more subjective, since even a game like Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite which reuses many ancient assets and looks horrific has at least some people defending it.
I'm not sure if you'd count it since it was incomplete and never officially released, but there's a version of the first Resident Evil for the GBC that got shockingly close to the PS1 version.
Kevin Stevens any dump for the incomplete file?
scapegoaaat - Here's a video of the game, with a link in the description: ruclips.net/video/PRCd2VVmLXw/видео.html
When you showed the Toy Story Racer game, I was like "HOLY CRAP! That's great graphics." And then you showed the gameboy color version.
Still great graphics… for the, um, GBC.
@@ianchandler4649 yeah, compard to the original game, I'll let it have the "you tried" badge
Hope you didn't actually think the first one was for the Gameboy Color. Maybe the DS, but even the GBA could never run it like this.
@@CutieFakeKirby why do you even watch these videos then? You obviously don't understand the concept & also have no appreciation/respect for the Gameboy & Gameboy Color.
To be fair, the original game does look good for a ps1
I'm surprised you didn't mention the town menus in Shantae. The over-the-shoulder perspective giving the illusion that Shantae is standing in the middle of the town and rotating to face the different buildings looks really cool.
"Alone in the dark is a resident evil style game" wut
You can tell I wrote that line super late at night
That's because Alone in the Dark was the very first horror game before Resident Evil
Project Firestart for the C64 had all the survival horror conventions in place years before Alone in the Dark.
+Scott Elliott Music
I think MC Chase meant first "static-3d camera" horror game before Resident Evil
Well, Resident Evil was an Alone In The Dark style game...
I would say Wario Land 3 was one that stood out for me.
Josh Powers That game is one that defined my childhood. What a good game that was and still is.
Do a "5 graphically impressive Skyrim ports", because you know.. I think we have enough by now :b
Dingleberry Tech 5 impressive doom ports would actually be a good video.
gododoof digital foundry already did it
gododoof it was a good video
The voice of the FMV is going to give me nightmares
W͓̳͔͢a̫̲͙̕ͅr͎̜͓ ̶͔h̝̦̘̺̝̻̩a̫̻̝̦͙s̱͖̳͙̰̭ ̰̳̘͕̺͍͇͘n̝͔͍͖͖͞ͅͅè̯͍̲̼̟v̲e̲̪̦r̪̘ͅ ̳̮͟b̨e͎̰͜e͉̱n̹̘͕͘ ̼̺̘̗̙̬͞s͚̻̼̱͔o̮͔̘̹ ̧̲̟͖̘̮̝͖m̹̠͇̦̜̭u̹̩̰͍̕c͈̜͚ḫ̢̯̫͕ ̶F̸̪̜͙͓̲ͅU̝N̨͕
Distilled meat lol
You can find a clean, more accurate record of the Cannon Fodder GBC intro here: ruclips.net/video/dKjTCSikTus/видео.html
EXTERMINATE!
Lol
Am I the only one a bit suprised to not see "Perfect Dark" on this list? I remember being blown away plugging that game into my GBA, I was so used to GBC games being so much worse than my GBA games, but that one felt like one of the bunch
A few from my youth that were impressive:
- Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets
- WarioLand 3
- Shantae
- Rayman
- Lego racers (kinda dated nowadays)
- Kirby tilt 'n tumble
Part 2: *Faceball 2000*
I think it might be worth it to look into maybe reviewing handheld games, maybe try a couple underappreciated gems and see what happens.
Yeah I think so too, I'm working on a video about Max Payne on GBA right now
I'd love to see that
You apologize for ruining my ears right now mister.
sorryyyyy
Lot of things come to mind, but first and foremost Towers: Lord Baniff's Deceit. It's a real time 3D dungeon crawler, like Ultima Underworld with FMVs.
Given the video I just saw, it's not real time 3D. Those are static images.
Real time as in not turn-based.
It looks more like Dungeon Master than Ultima Underworld.
My man, back at it again
You put toy story stuff on here and I arrive trying to escape the creepy toy story test animations stuck in my head! But when you mentioned travellers tales I was fine.
Love your channel minimme! I'd be happy to see you do graphically-impressive games for, well, every console pre-2005, while you're at it! (I feel like the PS3 / Xbox 360 generation was when impressive visual feats stopped being so dramatic)
I remember seeing Alone in the Dark for gbc in Game Informer magazine and immediately thinking it was a misprint of maybe a low budget ps1 game. It was very impressive for such slow hardware.
"Creatively bankrupt" What about a list of your favorite games, or moments in games, or history of 3D, or list of games that were cancelled, or celebrity voice acting in games. Idk just trying to think, Great channel so keep it up!
Not bad ideas yo :) thanks
Yea I have some criticism... These videos are impeccably brilliant! They bring back so many memories. Keep up the good work...always!
haha thanks so much!
Cool list. It sounds like a really unique point in time - the processing capabilities of the GBC were still pretty simple, but massive cartridge sizes (in comparison to say, 5 years earlier) produced some real surprises with pre-rendered assets.
Top 5 most graphically impressive keyboard buttons.
The Space Bar is number 4
My sides
Lmfaoooooooo I'm dead
fish files ! a really pretty looking game
I'm surprised there was no mention of Street Fighter Alpha, that was an incredibly impressive conversion that didn't try to faithfully emulate the arcade but instead the developers put their own GBC spin on it. Fluid animation, gorgeous colours, very impressive, especially when you compare it to the original SF2 on the original GB - which was a really poor port IMO.
Still, great vid! I love vids like this, you often run across unknown gems that are worth playing even today :)
I’ve heard that Cannon fodder actually sounds better on original gbc hardware.
It does not sound better i have tested it.
On an original Gbc?
Yes
Well that's odd.I heard countless times that it sounds alot better on a GameBoy Color
The GBA doesn't perfectly replicate GB/C audio, most notably it's missing some features on the noise channel which developers often exploited to simulate digitised audio. That's why games with complex sound effects may sound worse on GBA, such as Pokémon Yellow and indeed Cannon Fodder.
If you play GB/C games in Visual Boy Advance, you'll get a similar result to playing them on a GBA. Indeed, Shantae appears to be being played in its "GBA Enhanced" mode that alters the colour palette.
"X" was a Star Fox-esque tank combat game that was pretty good. it was only released in Japan though and from what I recall it's quite rare so I understand why it wasn't included
If I'm thinking of the right game I think that was an original Gameboy game rather than one developed for the Color - it'd be perfect for one of these vids on the original GB!
Jeezus!! That Cannon Fodder fmv sounds like the Max Headroom signal-hack. xD
Man that GTA ADVANCE pause theme really gets memories back while he's talking you could hear a faint soundtrack
That cannon fodder 3d selection screen was insane
You could mention The Fish Files for your next GBC video. Incredible graphics, reminiscent of Lucas Arts games.
And addams family
great video man ,, plz keepup
Cannon Fodder was one of my favourite games when I was younger
Good quality here with the graphical upload of the game boy color
0:39 BRO YOU SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME I THOUGHT THIS IS THE GBC GAME LOL
Great video as always!
I want part two!! I know theres other impressive games like.. Rayman, perfect dark, mario tennis, etc Theres just so many gbc games, you could even probably do a japanese version of that list hehe, Okay see ya on the next one, i love those vids btw
If you do a part 2 it could be worth checking out Tomb Raider and its sequel Curse of the Sword, Lara is so well animated and the backgrounds are very detailed, and in Curse of the Sword they're even animated
I really dig in Perfect Dark for gbc. It has full voice acting (sic!), good animations and generally nice graphics
I KNEW THERE WAS A TOY STORY RACER. I remember that shit blowing my mind when I was a kid!
Omg I HAD the alone in the Dark cart
i love alone in the dark in the gbc , i played it a lot of times when i was kid
Just like Cannon Fodder, Tarzan for GBC had a FMV intro. It was pretty much the back half of one of the movie trailers.
The unreleased port of the first resident evil also looks great!
Hey minimme, Cannon Fodder's intro does not sound crackly and robotic on real GBC hardware!
I recorded the intro directly from the headphone jack of my real Gameboy Color, here's a link:
vocaroo.com/i/s1imRMvTkw8v
I wonder why it sounds so different on other hardware and emulators.
It sounds bad on the GBA due to it having a different sound chip, and bad on emulators due to very slight inaccuracies relating to PCM samples in the way they handle their sound chip emulation.
My jaw dropped when he showed the first game...
The way the Toy Story Racer game works is the same thing Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver did on PC in 1998. This game also had a Game Boy Color port released in 2000.
shantae is such a great game omg. it's so beautiful and has so much personality, and it's a total blast to play to boot
Cannon fodder on the GBC is mind blowing.
Also donkeykong country on GBC. blows my mind.
Turok Rage Wars had awesome graphics imo. It stunned me as a kid.
Perfect Dark was pretty memorable for it's great synthesized speech
I would like to point out that Jake Kauffman "Vert" is the musician behind shantae tracks and has uploaded them to yt and even shares his thoughts on them via description
I was really sitting here thinking "I wonder if they'll show hamtaro: ham hams unite" but also, that is another late game boy color game that just looks really nice
I'd have to shout out the two Harry Potter RPGs that are on the GBC, as the spritework as some of the last GBC games was phenomenal, in the backgrounds and the small character sprites, especially from the Chamber of secrets one. The final battle with the basilisk also is a highlight of Sprite animation that definitely contributed to my early love of pixel art.
New sub! Great video.
I'm surprised that Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel wasn't here. That was extremely impressive.
Y’all should check Star Ocean for the GBC. Mesmerizing!
3d pool always stuck out to me too
Yoo nice vid
Is there any chance you could upload the full hq thumbnail to somewhere like Imgur?
I was always wondering what the art style of the original Shantae was reminding me of, but it suddenly clicked, the Neo-Geo Pocket Colour.
This was great 👍
Metal Gear Solid (2000) is another stunning example. The sprite work in that game and the amount of well translated gameplay mechanics from 3D titles is just insane. Worth checking out.
Rhino Rumble, Alfred's Adventure are two glaring omissions.
Klax's graphics and sound are also noteworthy.
That Toy Story tune is my jam!!
Wacky Racers, from the same people who did Driv3r on the GBA. It pulls off some trippy-looking Mode 7-like graphics on the Game Boy Color.
You forgot Donkey Kong Country
Moses98 its just dk land in color pretty much
Whatever your emulator did to the sound in the Cannon Fodder into, it went from sounding like a GBC to sounding like the Max Headroom broadcast intrusion.
Do you have a recording of the original running on a real GBC?
Tom and Jerry Mouse Attacks has a few FMV cutscenes, as does Tomb Raider.
"Another 5 more graphically impressive gameboy color games again"
Also cool thing to note is that right now shantae for the color is worth around $300 for some reason.
I had the toy story racer game, oh man I loved this game!
@2:02 , sounds like an angry Dalek!
Where does that elevator music sounding background music come from??? It sounds so familiar!!!
nextlastgengamer It comes from GTA 2. The tune is known as Car Jacking In Hilltown. The instrumental version in this video comes from GTA Advance in fact.
Edward thank you!!! I knew I had heard it before!!!!!
Warlocked was pretty impressive if only that it was the closest we got to a full featured RTS on GBC.
graphicly impressive wii games
Xenoblade Chronicles, Sonic Colours, Dead Space Extraction, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3...
Is that theme from GTA:Advance in the background?
The gbc had such good color contrast
that war game cutsceen was fucking insane it looked way too good to be GBC
You also have F1 Championship Season 2000 and Championship Motocross 2001 those use the same technology we have in Toy Story Racer. And if you want to see a nice FMV on GBC, take a look at Supercross Freestyle.
And to think most people think the game boy color is just a color version of the original
If you want to see a REALLY impressive tech demo, look up Stunt Race FX for Gameboy.
I actually own cannon fodder for gameboy color
Not officially released but the Resident Evil 1 Gbc port was amazing and graphically impressive you can get the rom online it's almost the entire RE game in Gbc style
Hamtaro Ham-Hams Unite! Is also a very graphically impressive GBC Game. It was also the last GBC Game released in Europe in 2003.
Is there a Master System video on this?
I had a dream about actual polygons on a gameboy color
The GBA was under-powered? It was in the Guinness book of records for most powerful handheld device (2001 or 2002 issue I think?). Unfortunately I can't provide evidence as I no-longer own that particular volume and that record obviously no-longer stands, but it wasn't an under-powered console at all. I don't think Guinness World Records have a "most powerful X" anymore because it's just so easily beaten and very difficult to ascertain these days - but it's certain that the GBA wasn't under-powered in 2001.
It is true that the GBA was planned for release in the 90s, which suggests that it was based on dated specifications and could have been more powerful, but it was the most powerful handheld device of its year.
Of particular interest to me is that the GBA was powerful enough to cope with a compiled high-level language (such as C) and these days you can write games for it in any language supported by the LLVM compiler, which is mind-blowing (you can write a GBA game in Apple's Swift programming language, released in 2014!). The device had enough memory and performance to handle rendering directly to the frame-buffer which was very impressive at the time, something that the SNES needed extra cartridge chips to achieve.
underpowered in comparison to the consoles
Compared to home consoles, it was under powered, which is what he meant.
Yeah, the GBA wasn't underpowered for a handheld, just compared to a home console. However, the GBC really _was_ strongly underpowered even for a handheld system. It was just slightly faster than the old original Gameboy which launched more than 9 years earlier!
Great list. If we’re counting imports then Mega Man Xtreme would be worth talking about.
what's the music that plays in the background?
Toki Tori was graphically impressive for a Game Boy Colour game. And just like Shantae, it was also released late in the GBC's life around 2002.
can you make a list with 6 items
Damn dragon's lair is a good port. very faithful looking
5:14 "If your interested in me, or them, or obscure video games, or " WHAT?!
You might as well do "Graphically impressive ___ Games" for every console at this point. I could imagine something like Little Samson being on the nes list.
Well, If you keep making them, I'll keep watching them.
The gameboy color had some quite neat tricks on it's belt, specially if compared to the OG gameboy.
For example, it has a DMA data copying hardware, which allows you to very quickly copy data from the cartridge to the video memory, which is how you can play movies on it like on the first game.
The OG gameboy barely can hit 4 FPS if attempting to do that (just ask the gameboy camera).
Also you can double the CPU clock, use a ton more memory, a HUGE color palette etc..
It was still very slow considering the fact that the original Gameboy came out 9 years earlier.
Tom and Jerry in Mouse Attack should be there too
For the gameboy color, those titles look like either gameboy advance or ds titles from how good they are.
Toy Story Racer - Sprites on top of pre-rendered track visuals? So basically it's Mega Race.
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare - The combat actually looks more playable than the original versions. Like virtually all survival horror games from that era, the combat was slow and annoying. And yes, I'm definitely including Resident Evil in that statement. Rather than make challenging enemies, the designers seemed to think that saddling the player with cumbersome combat mechanics equated to the same thing.
Hi, WTA, what is your emulator software and upscalling setting? my emulator look like crap whenever i tried to play in fullscreen. Thanks.
Alone in the dark actually is the father of Resident Evil styled games. Boi
That Gta Advance music tho
