I've been collecting & using knives for 25+ years and I would have to agree that the Benchmade Bugout delivered the biggest change to the idea of an 'EDC knife' in all that time. Leveraging off advances in materials & including modern features the Bugout really brought it all together and I thinks its sales prove the point. From this list it's the Para 3 for me (sorry I'm a Spyderco fanboy and the blade better suits my needs). Always love these types of vids - makes you realise the good stuff out there.

My current folding edc is the Benchmade 496 Vector, but I change quite often because I own so many edc folders. I also edc a fixed blade. My favorite for a year now is the Benchmade Hunt series Steep Country 15006. The geometry & blade material of this knife is the perfect size for carrying inside the belt but outside the pants waist. It disappears underneath my untucked shirts & doesn't print through.

Was kinda disappointed to not see the pm2 on here which is what I carry. I get that it’s bigger than what some people would prefer for an EDC. But I still find that it fits easily in my pocket and it’s not super heavy. And when deployed the longer handle plus the thumb ramp is such a great combo. I feel power and confidence behind the blade of a pm2 that I haven’t quite experienced with other EDC knives I’ve tried.
I also love the bugout and have carried it a lot, but the pm2 just feels so freakin solid. Every time I use it I’m reminded why I gravitate towards it more than other offerings.
But to each their own :) Thanks for the vid!

I wish they could get some new/better designers at some of the featured companies, and unless you're spending big bucks right now you're stuck with some UGLY stuff. No thank you to plastics, carbon fiber, and star trek looking designs. I've never liked chunky ZTs or other overbuilt knives, not a fan of what case has been putting out (aesthetically), modern kershaws, spydercos, the list goes on... What really blows my mind is that a company like case or buck hasn't ventured into modernizing traditional designs, like how did Pena manage to beat Case to the punch in making a framelock trapper? Hell if you look at the Twosun ts232, doesn't that scream high quality american pocketknife? I have one, and it's fantastic, probably one of my most beloved knives. But it took a chinese manufacturer to do it first?! Lazy, unimaginative, greedy corner-cutting accountants and executives is how. Benchmade puts out some good looking stuff, I have a bugout with brass scales, love it!

@@Ajaxykins Kinda have the same tastes. Wish there were more "modern classics". I don't care for most uber-tactical or fantasy/futuristic designs. I've been really impressed with some of Civivi's button locks lately. The Cogent, Elementum (button), Altus, Conspirator are all right on point, aside from me wishing they offered better steel selections. The new Chevalier they just put on the website for pre-order has me very excited. I'm hoping these catch on and the big name manufacturers catch on.

The ZT 0640 is a knife you have to mod in order to get the most out of it. The clip is right on the edge of useless, so budget for something from MXG Gear or Lynch. The scales do a poor job of locking the pivot in place so it’s difficult to adjust the action or disassemble the knife, they’re also downright fugly… look to Sharp Dressed Knives to address this issue. While you’re at it, a larger thumb disk from Gray Precision makes deployment easier and more enjoyable. I’ve sunk Sabenza money into my 0640 and finally love it. I’m just not convinced it was worth it. Too many compromises and shortcuts in build.

It was interesting to see that the Sodbuster Jr. had what appeared to be a stonewashed blade. I remember them in the past having a very high polished blade.

Nice selection, Seth! 👍 I love the DPx HEST/F. The jimping is supposed to be wire stripper, BTW.

Nice choices for american made blades, however, I wish you could have included Bear and Son. They have some good designs in their tactical line. The Rancor is an awesome knife!

Towards the end of the war there was the Me 262. I think there was a Heinkel 178. The Brits were 1st credited with gas turbine engines.

The Bugout is a nice knife but the quintessential EDC from Benchmade is absolutely the 940.

Great presentation Seth! But am I the only one who thinks the Toor Knife looks like a Chris Reeve? (which i like as it is about half a Sebenzas Price :D)

Only one that interests me is the new Buck 110.
As for the other stuff frame locks and liner locks are a accident waiting to happen.
I had a kershaw liner fail cut me bad. Secondly the prices are insane. $200-300 for a little folder. These are production knives they are not custom. Yet they want custom pricing. At least a folder takes to machining I'm still amazed what people pay for fixed blades because it has a company name on it.
Guess it's time to order some steel and a few grinder belts. 💰 🤑 💸

Great choices! I actually own a Hogue DEKA and a Bugout and mini Bugout. The DEKA is just a fantastic knife and as you mentioned it is incredible value for money because they get all of the details really dialed in. The DEKA action is smoother than any AXIS lock Benchmade I have had out of the box - almost no difference once the Benchmade has been "broken in" though. The grind and edge on the DEKA is also much better than the Bugout. That said, the DEKA is a little bit more expensive, thicker and heavier than the Bugout - which is justified because they use 20CV and G-Mascus on the DEKA vs S30V and FRN on the base/regular Bugout and . There is also no mini DEKA option yet which I think really needs to happen. They are both amazing knives, can't go wrong either way. My personal favorite of the $175 and under range Bugout is the olive handle with stone washed blade finish and gold accents - it is just really classy looking.

I got a Magnacut Deka on pre-order, I'm looking forward to getting it and seeing how it stacks up to my Bugouts.
