My son's 99 Camry took 35 minutes to do this job. taking my time, after watching this great video. Motor/regulator was $34 new on Amazon with lifetime warranty. The original part was intermittently failing (open, of course) after 24 years.

Does the switches on the other doors besides the driver work? Also can you lock the door on the passenger side? Are you able to lock the car with your key?

On these older cars it's not uncommon for the grease to have failed on the regulator tracks and pivot points. This leaves a sticky mess and the regulator no longer moves freely, forcing the motor to work harder and eventually overheat. At the first sign of difficulty, the regulator should be evaluated before the motor is wrecked. Many times it's as easy as removing the old grease and lubricating the tracks and pivot points with fresh white lithium grease. Unfortunately, you still have to take everything apart and many people take the opportunity to replace the regulator and motor at the same time. The factory regulator will always be a more robust solution, so even if you want to replace the motor, you should consider cleaning up and reusing the factory regulator assembly.

Very well explained. What i need to know how did you find the guy to do the work while you were shooting the video. With Help like him i am upto this task. Otherwise i think it is very lousy design to replace window regulator

Oh it's a buddy that owns a garage so I thought I would record and show how to replace the regulator. I think Hondas are similar too. But yes these regulators can be tricky.

Just a quick question. If I can’t determine if its a faulty windows regulator, what are the other signs of it. Is the battery icon constantly on the dash e.g. Because in my case its there.

The camry didn't have a warning indicator for the windows. So is the battery icon on when you have the car running? If so, take the battery to a local auto parts store to have it tested. Besides that, a way you can tell of a window regulator going bad is slow or sporadic movement or you hear noise when it's opening or closing.

@@SkyShadowMedia thanks for your response. Engine is running fine, battery is brand new. It happened previously, a replacement fuse sorted the issue. Now same sympthoms, no dashboard gauge is operating, battery icon on. Apart from it everything works. E.g. lights in cabin, AC, etc.

Electrical issues in a car can be a headache sometimes. When you open and close your window, does it struggle or stop sometimes?

    • @AttilaNaray

Yeah its like playing chess. No up nor down. None of the buttons are responsive.

@AttilaNaray hm is all the windows doing it or just 1 or 2. If all windows are doing it, it may be something electrical. If it's 1 or 2, it's a sign the regulator is going bad. Some people say there's a way to grease the motor somehow since the other issue is the regulator's moving parts dry out.

Really wished you would have showed you actually attaching the window and keeping it in the track

Sorry at that point I had to help my friend hold the window while attaching it to the regulator and I couldn't record that part. If you can still move the glass down, move it to the point where you have access to the bolts that attach the glass to the regulator track. You will need a second person to help hold the glass when removing and attaching the glass. I believe it was 2 bolts at the bottom part if the glass attached to a white plastic piece on the horizontal regulator rail.

Sigh google failing to show how to get the window back on track....

It can be tricky. Having a second person is helpful. One can try to slide the glass into the guide/slot and the second person checks where it gets hung up. I usually have the motor set to the half way down or lower to accept the glass. Reinstalling the glass is like a puzzle. Let me know if you have any questions.
