- Welcome to Skinwalker hunt! In this game you have to hunt down the Skinwalker, which is a super fast and super scary creature. Maybe I'm actually the one being hunted?
This game is very similar to Bigfoot and it's so much fun! It's so much better than I expected. I had an amazing time with this terrifying game and I hope you enjoy! Much love and see you during the streams :D

I hate being that person but no skinwalkers and wendigos are not the same. Wendigos don't even look like that in legends but some dude decided it should so now everyone thinks it does. They are tall, skinny, rotting, cold humanoids with sharp teeth. Until dawn wendigos are more accurate to the actual legend then the deer head creature. Also Skinwalkers are shape-shifters so I honestly don't know where the deer head came from for the Skinwalker either I'd have to do more digging I guess.
I just get annoyed that everyone always says they are the same or mixes them up. I've just always enjoyed these types of creatures and legends so that's probably why.
You're not the only one. Was going to correct that as well. I don't think very many cryptids have multiple names like that to my knoowlege
@@XxzaidosxX yeah I could see how some could be considered the same but with different names. Like Bigfoot and yeti. Those are very similar but a wendigo and a skinkwalker are completely different. The only similarity would be they are both native American legends. I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds it annoying tho so thanks for that.
The stories actually come from two different Native American groups and Regions. The Navajo in the Southwest are the source of the Skinwalker and the Alogonquin in the Northeast are the source of the Wendingo.
@@beccagirly9397 Yep. And I meant different names for the same creature like bigfoot and sasquatch. Yeti to bigfoot in my mind is more like a polar bear to a brown bear. Similar but still different
@@granatmof Also as far as I know from limited knowledge skinwalkers just exist like any creature, while wendigo come to be when a person resorts to cannibalism

Didn't the developer confirm that the character you play as in Skinwalker The Hunt, is an actual descendent of the character you play as in Witch Hunt? I remember vaguely that being a thing.
I'd love to see a more modernized version with more shit, controls, and what not.

hey just fyi, the skinwalker isn't a 'fictional folklore monster'. that's like saying christian angels are fictional folklore monsters. Skinwalkers are figures in certain native american belief systems that are extremely important and it's insulting to brush them off in that way.

@@stephenrego6065 yeah they were but some got confused and thought it actually was a Wendigo or that Skinwalkers and Wendigo's are the same thing, however as far as i can remember the Skinwalker is like the native american really fucked up version of a werewolf. instead of a wolf though its usually a coyote whereas a Wendigo was a human that ate another humans flesh on cursed ground or engaged in some fucked up ritual. Do bear in mind that this is only a rough recollection and its been a while since I've actually brushed up on myth/theology about them.
Wendigos dont have deer skull heads
Wendigo is Northeast Native American, I'm not entirely sure of which tribe. I also mostly only know the pop-culture stories where wendigo is a sort of cannibal spirit. The people whose legends include the wendigo are ambivalent about the story being used in pop-culture. Some of the depictions of wendigo I've seen match the beast in this video game.
Skinwalker is from the Dine (Americans would call them Navajo, but I believe that's the wrong term). The only thing I know about it is one mythologist of my acquaintance has said it's a heavily taboo subject to even talk about it and the only thing he was willing to say is that none of the pop-culture media versions get even close to what the myths are like.
The common things I hear about the skinwalker (which are almost certainly wrong based on the one acquaintance) is that they're a sort of witch that can astral-project, possess animals, change shape, walk unseen, etc.
So they're probably a mish mash of various other pop culture monsters using the terms from the Dine myth.
I was looking up the Wendigo earlier, and found this: "The wendigo is part of the traditional belief system of a number of Algonquin-speaking peoples, including the Ojibwe, the Saulteaux, the Cree, the Naskapi, and the Innu."
Of course, I have no idea of the truth or of accuracy (I'm not Native American), but most of the Native American people I've seen speak about it online don't like the fact that the Wendigo is used in pop culture, as it's taboo to even say its name, and you'll often find them censoring parts of the name if they speak about it at all. In its original stories from the tribes, the Wendigo does not have antlers or horns or an animal skull for a head. We should come up with a cool name for the deer-head creature sometime!
@@Dragonbleps huh. I know that onyx path got some cooperation with members of one of those tribes in writing out the Manitou pantheon for scion 2e but that the Dine flatly said they had no interest. But also not from any of them and only know in context of hearing dev talk when the devs pop into the discord occasionally.

I was taught about the walker but only in warning. I was told by my aunt that if you hear knocking on the door late at night, don't answer it. The knocking will get louder and more insistent but the walker will not speak to you unless it has already taken the skin of someone close to you. If you have a peep hole, don't use it. Whatever you do, don't open the door and don't look at it, otherwise it will steal your skin .
I'm no native but I think that because i'm from a witch family, especially a type that believes to take every belief into caution, is how I think my aunt knew about the walker. (we don't use the full name as it will encourage attack). My kind of family practice many different kinds of religion depending on the circumstance and deity and believe that anything is possible within reason, you can't judge something to not exist if it only doesn't want you to see it.
So yea, keep your doors locked and don't answer at night unless you're expecting it (ask food delivery to call)

The Skinwalker is derived from Navajo/aboriginal culture. They're located around the southwestern United States (Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and so on) where they believe(d) that the creature would take on the form of animals/people (thus the name ''Skinwalker'' was created). The typical creation story for the Skinwalker is that a medicine man abused his magic for evil purposes, or just someone in general performed some unspeakable act(s) in order to obtain 'its' power (such as cannibalism, murder, etc.) and would then have to continue performing those acts to keep the power they gained.
The Wendigo, though, originates from Algonquian folklore- and these people were located in the northern and eastern states (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, etc.) as well as a large area of Canada. The Wendigo shares the same concept of cannibalism in its creation story, the Wendigo usually was made when someone ate another person in order to survive- and if someone was possessed by a Wendigo, they would have a craving for human flesh. Instead of shapeshifting like the Skinwalker, I've heard it can mimic voices or sounds to lure its victims in.
Basically, although they may seem similar, the two entities come from different cultures, different regions, and different beliefs. They're a bit akin to one another, but they're not quite the same thing. Some of this might not be fully accurate,, but this is what I know.

This game looks so fun. And the tracking mechanic may seem basic but, I think it really adds something great and the events (ghost, wild animals, ect...) It's just really neat.

Dude you need to play the Chernobyl map, it is so freaking good, there are radioactive spots, you can't eat any animals you shoot or you get sick and you even get to see very old wood cabin style houses and such being reclaimed by nature, it is so haunting and I love it so much though I am too much of a bubbleblowing bitch to play this game XD

I've been watching a lot of videos about the bigfoot hunting game, it has been cool, but nothing I would care to really buy myself, BUT THIS, as you even said yourself this is really similar to the bigfoot game, but technically better and has more stuff into it. To be honest I might add this to my (already too long) wish list so I can get to play this myself as well hahah

Bigfoot wasnt originally pvp, but bigfoot was an anoyning bullet sponge.
Then was a way to track bigfoot for a while using tracking bullets but they removed them to make it pvp
Wendigos and skinwalkers are two very different things, so I'm not sure why that person in chat said they're the same. The only thing they have in common is that they're both evil spirits, but skinwalker stories and origins differ. It might not seem like a big deal to some, but these are two beings that are an important part of Native American beliefs; skinwalkers are also considered very taboo.

Yo insym, if you liked this then you should play Witch Hunt... It's pretty similar to both the hunting games you've played, but leaning a little more into horror and taking place in later medevil times.
One of the people in chat also suggested you play Dark Deception... I agree, it's a really good horror game.
I think games like these should have randomizers for wild animals (if they don't already) that determines how strong an animals is and if they're passive or aggressive, or maybe if it attacks only after being attacked... I think it would help make things more real!

As exciting as this game seems to be, I did a bit of research on Skinwalkers and I see a common occurrence of “Traditionally, the Navajo will not speak with outsiders about these creatures, for fear of retribution by the skinwalkers. For that matter, it is a taboo subject amongst the natives themselves.” They must have had to talk about it enough for people to create this game. If they were pressured into talking I will be so sad for them, hopefully not

So a Wendigo and Skinwalker are different terms for different things from different Native American cultures and Folklore. The Wendigo story comes from the Northeastern Tribes and is a moanter and spirit associated with greed gluttony, the cold, and the wilderness and cannibalism. It's a spirit that can posses people and cause them to cannibalize during time of extreme famine and survival, although in some stories its a creature with a heart of ice. In some ways the Wendingo has some circumstantial similarities withe the Draugr of Scandinavian Folklore, although Draugr are more overtly undead,
The legend of the Skinwalker comes from the Southwest particularly the Navajo. The Skinwalker is a shape changing witch known for attacking members of the tribe. A Skinwalker is someone who has murdered and cannibalize a family member for the power to shape change. They possess superhuman strength et all, and are recognizable by their eyes. The only way to kill them is to identify them as a human, which causes them to die immediately, so they will target people who seem them. As a transformed creature they're often larger than the representative creature, and can shape change to multiple creatures. Most often they attack members of the nations in the area and rarely members outside of the Nations. They can cast a curse that a medicine man must be consulted to cure or else the person will die.
So the character model of the creature in the game is more associated with the wendingo. I'm not sure how the deer skull became associated with it. The Alpine mountainous forest is likewise more evocative of the wilderness in the Northeastern North America than the mixed arid geography of the southwest.
Both the Skinwalker and Wendingo are associated with attacking people, more or less, unlike Sasquatch, or at least most stories of Sasquatch.
