The Great Stink was an event in Central London during July and August 1858 in which the hot weather exacerbated the smell of untreated human waste and industrial effluent that was present on the banks of the River Thames. The problem had been mounting for some years, with an ageing and inadequate sewer system that emptied directly into the Thames. The miasma from the effluent was thought to transmit contagious diseases, and three outbreaks of cholera before the Great Stink were blamed on the ongoing problems with the river.🤣🤣🤣🤣

Believe it or not that is normal in Cambodia. Even the border guards who will happily get a few extra dollars from you don't usually take that much, despite this place being called scambodia. Even the bar-girls who will drain you of thousands if you're stupid enough, won't actually steal money from your wallet in their bar. But ice queens in your hotel room and cheap massage parlors are another thing, leave most of your money and phone in a separate location then.

If you go over to the subreddit called Cambodia, you'll actually realize that there are a lot of Americans having the same exact thoughts as you. The only "hard" part is that you need to have a plan, obviously, and a decent amount of courage, but once you finally decide to make that jump, it's actually not that bad haha. Like I said, you just need to get through the thought of "Should I actually do this?", and you'll see how great your decision was. Trust me, I've been living here for 10 years and it couldn't be better.

My husband working as chef for decades at a Thai restaurant here in WA state. Kao and her family travelled from Laos back in the 70s attempting to avoid land mines , one took her foot, exploding. Meanwhile she is the most hardworking, down to earth woman ever. Much love to the Laotian, Cambodian and Vietnamese people. What they suffered is Inexcusable in the name of corrupt wars back before I was even born. ❤

Ben the book 'The River of Time' by Jon Swain is an incredible read. It is his personal memoir as a journalist living in Cambodia during the 1970s when it was all kicking off over there.... It tells the history of that time but also about how he fell in love with the country and its people in the most turbulent time in their history..... You also have the Oscar Awarding winning movie 'The Killing Fields' - which is another true story....Jon Swain is one of the real life characters in the movie.

The thing I appreciate about your vids is the honesty. To hear other travelers, life is beautiful and perfect and no problems-rarely speaking about getting sick. I’ve been to India twice the past two years. Love my friends there and SOME of the food. But it’s so easy to get sick even as much as you try not to. So it’s very helpful to prepare travelers. And I hope the host countries don’t take it as an insult. But it’s simply honesty for we foreigners coming to visit.
