Paul is not exactly the most gifted guitar player but he has a penchant for songwriting ; especially tunes with strong melodic hooks . The resourceful use of his abilities and his creativity allow him to be one of the greatest songwriters in music history . Peace and good health to you … Miles from Canada .
Paul is like the teacher you never had, where you wouldn't mind getting homework. When Paul speaks, everyone hangs on to every word, that is what you call a legend.
This is easily one of Sir Paul's best--& I believe this includes his Beatles work. The song is simply amazing, both musically and lyrically. What a gem.
Can't help but notice that all these years later, Paul is still playing the Right-handed guitar that he bought in New York in 1964 to do "Yesterday" on the Ed Sullivan show. They still had to watch their money pretty closely, so a custom hand-made instrument was out of reach. Instead, Paul spent several hours at a music store playing every acoustic guitar they had, and this particular one by fluke had the amazing sound we still hear. This also explains why it is a right-handed guitar he plays upside down, only switching the strings. You still see the pick-guard on the wrong side.
I could have bought the album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" almost only for this song. Blackbird was already one of my favorite... now I can tell why "Jenny Wren" touched me so much musically...
Like so many girls, Jenny Wren could sing But a broken heart took her soul away Like the other girls, Jenny Wren took wing She could see the world and its foolish ways How we spend our days casting love aside Losing sight of life day by day She saw poverty breaking up her home Wounded warriors took her song away But the day will come, Jenny Wren will sing When this broken world mends its foolish ways Then we'll spend our days catching up on life All because of you, Jenny Wren You saw who we are, Jenny Wren
A big surprise, although his voice is obviously failing, he still has that amazing bell tone in the upper register. For most of us, it's the high notes that go first. Further evidence that Sir Paul is not quite of this world, but graces us with his music.
Tis not often, PickerDad, that one can sum up Paul McCartney in 3 sentences. What you wrote was brilliant; accurate; and all the way thumbs uip to a total summary of Paul ever since the early 60's whn they were pre-fab...toi fame...to present day,. I tip my hat to you; Paul is genius, just as John was. No doubt. Don't even get me started on the tremendous merits of George, how he too, grew into his own immense gifts of songs and music. Thank you, my brother----Jenny Wren REALLY put a lot more distance to the art of songwriting and singing that could be imagined...and that was some 11 yrs ago! And he is still cooking in the garden, in his backyard, of chaos and creativity!
How lucky are those spectators to be able to sit, watch, and enjoy an intimate performance by Paul McCartney - just the man with his acoustic guitar? It doesn’t get any better than this, in my opinion. Wow, how lucky are they!
Prior to the realease of Paul's album, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard in 2008, I have always felt that Mull of McTyre, what with the Scottish Bagpipes, was the most beautiful song he ever wrote. But then again, there was also Waterfalls from McCartney II. From the first time I heard Jenny Wren, to me, its absolutely the MOST beautiful McCarney composition of them all! By the way, if you have never heard the entire Chaos and Creation in the Backyard,.,,which has Jenny Wren on it---buy it and check it out! A great record! Songs like Waiting for Your Friends to Go (inspired by George Harrison; Paul said, ":A George type song", and many other gems on it, is magnificent! Paul IS musical genius!
This one is so beautiful it's even hard to express with words, and the duduk solo is heavenly. Unfortunately, I think this is the last of Paul's signature stirring songs as of today, coz his latest album didn't give us anything as beautiful as this one...
beautiful song and such a great follow on from Blackbird. Makes me weep every time I hear it for my late mother who was a Wren in WW2. I reckon this album with poss exception of BOTR was his best post Beatles album. Either way, deeply moving.
Beautiful,,,I want macca to come up with some more like that,,,.not easy,,,but I'm sure he could do it ....he does it so well.... and yeah,,,I think it would easily be on the white album....

I gave this song to my girl. Her name is Jenny. Yes, if you look at it, it can be translated to random ways and moments in all ones life. With this song I have seen each moment all the way through remembering stories she'd tell me in ernest. What it comes down to, is that she has had a beautiful heart all along the way of her life's hardship. And now, once again with her, as she realized who we are together, her weary walls have fallen away and we are catching up on the life with the love she always knew existed. Her song is beautiful.
How awesome it would be to listen to Paul like he thought of you as a studying musician yourself. I know some people weren’t following his story so much as today’s information overload and 5sec candy sound bites needed for the next fix we’ve succumb to. God save the children from mediocrity and blinding commercialism.
One of my favourite McCartney pieces. He seems to paint very specific elements of my life. It’s also as if he wrote it for some point in the not to distant future.... Like, now. Just, stunning.
I love the mistake he makes at the start of the second time round. He just plays it off beautifully and cracks on. Proves he's human like the rest of us. Many a time I'd drop a drum stick or break a skin at a gig and would just have to wing it whilst I recover. Awesome moment!
Picking through the harmony governd by a song Black bird went a wandering Fluttering but strong The walrus once had had it's fill on the mystic road After went the the magpie feasting on it's load

This is one of my favorite McCartney solo songs. It would fit right in on Rubber Soul.
It has more a White Album sound actually.
Derek Martz more like the white album
@@Diego_Aracena_Kovacevic more like an anthology sound for me.
Diego Aracena Kovacevic Agreed, as they learned finger picking in India two years after Rubber Soul. :) Blackbird-ish and Mother Nature’s Son-esque.
Derek Martz never actually heard of this song... really cool to hear it now.
Takes his youthful misreading of Bach, turns it into his own personal late period masterpiece. Ladies and Gentlemen, Paul McCartney!

Paul is like the teacher you never had, where you wouldn't mind getting homework. When Paul speaks, everyone hangs on to every word, that is what you call a legend.
Interestingly, I remember reading somewhere that if Paul didn’t become a musician, he probably would’ve actually become a teacher !
My music teacher
He really is a genius of our times.
most definitely
I would say he really is THE genius of our times.
Greatest composer of the 20th century
In the original recording Paul used an Armenian Duduk for the 'duu duu' part, and it sends goosebumps down my body. What a master of sounds.
This is easily one of Sir Paul's best--& I believe this includes his Beatles work. The song is simply amazing, both musically and lyrically. What a gem.
agreed
Just beautiful....
Can’t go along with you on that but it is your opinion and that’s cool

he also keeps it tuned down a half step to help him sing.
Where'd he bought it?
Dexter Rutecki ya he always uses this one in concert to play yesterday.
Dexter Rutecki whole step actually.
It was actually in August, 1965 that Paul sang Yesterday on Ed Sullivan, not 1964. ;)
Paul is an absolute treasure of this world, the impact he had (ad still has) will forever live on.
A beautiful song. He was gifted then and still is. His song writing skills and guitar playing has not waned.
A genuine solid gold genius. Try to imagine where music would be without him. I'm 74 and still get gooseflesh and a tight throat when Paul sings
Makes me cry to know that there's as much beauty in the world as this song. Thank you Sir Paul.
Musically speaking, Paul is not human!! He is Divine!!
Yes to sir paul the great....

It's exquisite. There is NO end to his creativity.
his vocal pitch is still seemingly effortless and so pure, gorgeous pitch just falls out of his mouth.
There's a canal boat on Regent's Canal in London with the name Jenny Wren. Saw it at Camden Lock.
How lucky are those spectators to be able to sit, watch, and enjoy an intimate performance by Paul McCartney - just the man with his acoustic guitar? It doesn’t get any better than this, in my opinion.
Wow, how lucky are they!
we've never deserved how lovely paul is, but this, is just too much for us to have. tears
Love that it's also a Dickens story
A very true Dickens story.
