I watch this solo every single day for about 1 year and I'm not, even a little bit, tired of it. It's amazing how every time I watch it I learn something new
You three drummers that I listen to they were great. and I surely wished you all could play again so I will just listen to these what with what I have and I'm very thankful for whoever put the configuration of their drum set on they all look very nice but I'm sure they're pretty expensive.just want to thank all of you for displaying the skills that you have put in hours and hours of work perfecting your skills for the public to enjoy thank you very much
That goddamn groove towards the middle to the end where he's playing his LEFT foot on the 1, so he can get a Kick AND a Hi-Hat on the 1 but still keep the other foot rocking, I have thought about it, never have seen it done before, this guy is an innovator
Or Ron Bruner Sr. Playing for folks like Diana Ross and being friends with Will Kennedy and Marvin Smitty Smith and having them becoming Uncle figures to Ronald hehehhe
My father recently began playing drums again after a 40-year break, and he went shopping for some new sticks the other day. He bought about 5 pairs. One of them caught my eye. They caught my eye because they’re fluorescent orange! He bought a pair of Ronald Bruner Jr. signature Zildjian sticks. I gotta say, my dad knows what a good stick feels like even after 40 years without playing. I love Bruner’s sticks. They’re kinda small but they have some weight to em. They just feel all kinda good. And my dad’s five stroke rolls in the Sousa marches sound almost as good as mine.
Damn!!😱 The hi hat and bassdrum footwork combination, coordination and control is unprecedented🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The hand speed chops and rudimentary uniqueness of the whole drum solo is on another level😄✊🏾💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
When he plays his foot ostinato @1:55, I like saying "Tuh!" on every instance where he strokes both the kick drum and hi-hat pedals at the same time. I just like how it sounds to me.
caferrara Then how come most of the top drummers idolize Cobham for his contribution to drumming than this guy? Most of the stuff this guy is playing isn't just drumming masturbation.
Yeah Ronald is the older brother, Stephen is the middle child and Jameel (on the road with "The Internet" is the youngest and one heck of a Keyboardist
He must have watched Mahavishnu videos from Montreux many many times...;-) Well, I´ve been there and saw/heard B. Cobham three times with Mahavishnu and once as solo artist. Today is the first time for me to hear a drummer with a comparable power, energy and ferocity. He may be a little bit sloppy sometimes and have a little dropout on the rims but he then goes really wild and beats - quasi as a revenge - the shit out of his fabulous sounding Tama kit. Hard hitting drummer style at its best!
I don't know if "sloppy" is the right term to use, I saw a lot of drummers live and Ronald has the complete control of the sticks (like unreal), so it's pretty much impossible for him to be sloppy; if he sounds so somtimes, he totally wanted to do what you hear. Anyway for the rest I totally agree with you.
Certainly inspirational in his own right. I definitely can hear some Billy Cobham in there as well. I could name a few others too, although I don’t want to discredit his own talent or undermine his amazing creativity
I've been outa the scene for a bit. What's this new fandangled contraption that allows you to play double bass and high-hat with the foot simultaneously?
Cameron Alidor Can you elaborate on that? The high hat is still operating with the left foot. Is this an alternating foot method? Dennis Chambers does it as well
Samsgarden Most consistent double bass patterns (i.e. straight eighth notes or sixteenths) are lead with the right foot (R-L-R-L-R-L-R-L). The cool way to do this is to lead with left foot instead (L-R-L-R-L-R-L-R) with one half of your left foot on your auxillary kick pedal and the other half on your hi hat pedal. Dennis Chambers did this quite often, and it's something I use a lot with my band. Leading with the left foot on double bass allows for a lot of patterns to possibly include a hi hat ostinato in addition to the double bass pattern. Shameless plug alert: if you want a good example of this from me, check out my band Battling Delirium's new EP "Blue" with the track called "The Fall of Amaliel". In the beginning of the song, you'll hear integration of double bass and hi hat before the verse vocals start. The EP stream is on www.battlingdelirium.bandcamp.com. Thank you for the reply. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know. :)
Not sure about new but as long as your HH and left bass pedal are close enough to each other, put your foot in the middle of them both so you play the 2 together.
This guy can only be the son of Billy Cobham ...... very fera .... let's go to that ai ... I'm in the translator ... to honor this beast ... a hug from the gaucho ... BRAZIL. ... !!!!
Wow, how good do those drums sound?! I guess that's why they cost €€£££$$$$ Such a wonderful drummer too, can't figure out what those stickings are for the life of me... Best stick to what I know... RLRRLRLL.... ;)
This level of talent is insane! it's actually unbelievable without actually seeing and hearing it. Absolutely love this guy.
One of the best drums solos I have heard...this is definitely in my top 5 of all time.
drummerchamp same!!

something is special about him. it's advanced but so pleasing. never too quirky to have fun with it. and his attack is just so crisp and satisfying.
What you see here is a perfect mix of dedication, persistence and god-knows-how-many hours of practice, brilliant solo. Keep up the good work.
Exactly.
I watch this solo every single day for about 1 year and I'm not, even a little bit, tired of it. It's amazing how every time I watch it I learn something new
Glad you like it that much!
WTF!?!
That was brilliant... so many influences in one drummer... absolutely stunning!
When he hit that upstroke on the crash at 0:09 I knew this was gonna be something.
Seen and heard most of the greatest drummers to come onto the scene in the last 40 years. This Ronald fella...is beyond words.
wuahaha he wipes his sweat off with a Meinl towel... LOL the humor of this guy is always on point. hero
Swear to god I don't think anyone got that xD
You three drummers that I listen to they were great. and I surely wished you all could play again so I will just listen to these what with what I have and I'm very thankful for whoever put the configuration of their drum set on they all look very nice but I'm sure they're pretty expensive.just want to thank all of you for displaying the skills that you have put in hours and hours of work perfecting your skills for the public to enjoy thank you very much
yep crap cymbals but Great Gongs !
i definitely hear a Chambers influence but he still maintains his own feel.Badass.
a mix of Billy Cobham, Will Kennedy and Dennis Chamber. Ronald Bruner. what a dude!
Steve Gadd too
True, also carter beauford, André Ceccarelli, Horacio Hernandez, Vinnie Colaiuta and Weckl..
TAMA is that company and this dude reps it so well. Cant stop watching!!
That goddamn groove towards the middle to the end where he's playing his LEFT foot on the 1, so he can get a Kick AND a Hi-Hat on the 1 but still keep the other foot rocking, I have thought about it, never have seen it done before, this guy is an innovator
Dennis Chambers did this in the 90’s
Virgil Donati took it into a whole another level.
@@maqirama definitely, both drummers are good in their own way of playing.
Tama is sounding better than ever!!!
***** I'm falling in love with their drums
BEST DRUMS MONEY CAN BUY !!!! TAMA STAR !
OHRID59MK Could be...... I'd love to have a Tama kit, but I wonder if my Sonor's would be jealous?
Full on - Stunning solo - reminiscent of Gergo Borlai in respect of creativity & musicality - exceptional !!!!!!!!
What if I told you Gergo and Bruner have pretty much the same or similar influences? :)
+Moog168That is very interesting - I think that both Gergo Borlai & Ronald Bruner Jr are "genius" level Drummer/ Musicians. Thanks for the info
+Frank McMullan there also good friends lol
Love when he goes to the Aux snare with the fatback sound/grooves!
Billy Cobham and Dennis Chambers had a baby and his name is Ronald.
Or Ron Bruner Sr. Playing for folks like Diana Ross and being friends with Will Kennedy and Marvin Smitty Smith and having them becoming Uncle figures to Ronald hehehhe
+Moog168 I get your point, and a valid one at that. My ears just hear a mesh of those two, will Kenedy and Marvin are both amazing tho.
Spot on.... Add Tony Williams Too
I heard a little bit of Gadd at the end
How about Tony Williams?
It's like, if a drummer was a super hero, this is the guy.
My father recently began playing drums again after a 40-year break, and he went shopping for some new sticks the other day. He bought about 5 pairs. One of them caught my eye. #BestDrumSolo ..... ron takes you on a journey and its lovely
Nice playing and composition. I've seen some of his solos where he is just going off constantly, he is a great player when more composed.
I like how he starts tuning the snare around 5:54
Good God they just keep raising the bar..This is so crazy good
Phenomenal performance and those Tama Star's sound fantastic!
Some of the players out there these are absolutely face-melting. I have no face. Melted by music. And soul.
I can only say that when his kit looks at him before playing they think "oh shit here we go again!" Best drummer ive ever seen.
Death Metal Jazz Drummer
Damn!!😱 The hi hat and bassdrum footwork combination, coordination and control is unprecedented🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The hand speed chops and rudimentary uniqueness of the whole drum solo is on another level😄✊🏾💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
thank you for your great inspiration brother Ronald🎵 God Bless you🙏
Represent chief, I heard, Buddy, Krupa, Cobham, Chambers, Sugarfoot, Joe Joe, Max, Tony, Stubberfield, Bonam, Carter, DeJohnette, Appice Gadd, Jones, Pudie, Blaine and then some.
One of my favorite drummers!!!!
Incredible playing - stretch for that ride bell! ;).
DUDE,S SETTING NEW STANDARDS
Cool that he did a mini Dennis Chambers salute with the double bass going while on "break".
Holy shit that's a great sounding kit.. with a hell of a drummer of course lol
Just incredible talented!!!
When he plays his foot ostinato @1:55, I like saying "Tuh!" on every instance where he strokes both the kick drum and hi-hat pedals at the same time. I just like how it sounds to me.
this guy out Cobham's Cobham!! One of today's great young drummers!
+stretchcity Cobham, Chambers, Tony Williams all in one!
+stretchcity Not Cobham during the early-mid 70's.
+Oneness100 Yeah, those guys, and Lenny White too, during the late '70s- incredible!
He outdoes even that Cobham. This is a whole new level.
caferrara Then how come most of the top drummers idolize Cobham for his contribution to drumming than this guy? Most of the stuff this guy is playing isn't just drumming masturbation.
Dudes like the Gospel drummer's final boss....
This guy is out of this world
he is the continuation of Dennis Chambers... even if the master's still alive!
you're right...Totally taking Dennis' style farther...
Dennis Chamber Hybrid
@@Theworkingclassdrummer nothing like Dennis Chambers
Amazing
True Freak of Nature 🔥🙏🏾🤦🏾♂️
I was there...It's an amazing performance :)
I think Ronald is the best drummer alive right now.
The broken stick did it for me lol speed accuracy feel chops sensitivity and taste best described in that performance
il est formidable Donald bruner
1:20 - RBJ is the only drummer I've ever seen do that cymbal choke with stick. Creative badass. 🔥
Did yall know this is Thundercat's (bass player) brother?
+Harry D. Whuaat? That's crazy!
The Bruner brothers 😝
Yeah Ronald is the older brother, Stephen is the middle child and Jameel (on the road with "The Internet" is the youngest and one heck of a Keyboardist
+Moog168 i grew up with them lol
+dudleypunch101 what were they like as kids?
Dammit if yama doesnt make the finest drums! Just got mine! Bb in ocean ripple. Wow

is there anything he can't do? that doesn't come out right...
Certainly inspirational in his own right. I definitely can hear some Billy Cobham in there as well. I could name a few others too, although I don’t want to discredit his own talent or undermine his amazing creativity
Either I am wrong, or that is a very very old Mac
...looks like a powerbook
Old School Mac. Nice!
Outstanding solo
What's the cymbal set up?
Chriiiiist ... 1.30 !!!!!!!!!!!!! astounding
Class.
Great stuff. What kind of hats and ride are those?
tdrum21 the hats are zildjian k's and I think that ride is his prototype model
I've been outa the scene for a bit. What's this new fandangled contraption that allows you to play double bass and high-hat with the foot simultaneously?
The contraption is called learning how to lead with your left foot instead of just your right. It's really cool, actually. :P
Cameron Alidor

gusbandicoot ^this. Thats how its done. Plain and simple.
so I have a question. Is he playing the hi hat and the left beater with his left foot? For some reason, im not able to tell.
Yes, left foot gracing both pedals. Another guy that loves this technique (and does some incredibly textured patterns with it) is Marco Minnemann.
Muito monstro pegaaaa toop lembre-se bateras unidos jamais serão vencidos 👍🎶
How is this finish called please?? Beautiful kit!!!
This guy can only be the son of Billy Cobham ...... very fera .... let's go to that ai ... I'm in the translator ... to honor this beast ... a hug from the gaucho ... BRAZIL. ... !!!!
Sadly enough, the only thing I have in common with this guy is the same bass drum mic... he's so super while I'm so freakin' average...
VERY impressive!!! Damn!!!
He's cruel man, cruel! Such an awesome attack!
Love TAMA
8:15

This solo has a lot of Billy Cobham and Tony Williams phrasing
7:53
Sweet!!!!
I remember when I used to not like this guy I must have been crazy!
Mostruoso ciao..Vanni.
Snare drum is too shiny that makes me hard to watch
I live for 7:55 - Ronald is World #1 at drumming.
When did he leave Sabian and go with Zildjian?
Just blizzard man
Thundercats brother is off the chain.
Dude smokes tony royster..
Flying Mammoon Tony is pretty much " Unsmokable"
Yeah, Tony was doing crazy shit at 13! Wouldn’t put him above that and definitely wouldn’t say smoked, just my opinion as well as your opinion.
Speed what other style?
😂.... EVERY!🥁
Yeah, this guy is pretty decent.
snare is too tight-sounds like plastic.. other than that, some fine drumming, very fine.
Steve gadd impersonation at the end
This cat reminds me of Dennis Chambers
If that is true you do k own Dennis Chambers
All those supremacist should see this guy. Perhaps they will feell different after that
Fast as a shark
AND PEOPLE TALK ABOUT JO JO MAYERS GREAT CMON PLEASE.
