Comrade Dobler, I've enjoyed your channel for quite some time. I'm a fellow NFL-history buff, especially as presented by NFL Films. Thank you for the time you put in.
You mean entertainment football complete with obvious rigging to make the games more exciting and fake. Last season had the most OT games ever in NFL history. smh
Thanks. This was great. Charlie Jones, one of the greatest announcers. Darul Lamonica, Pete Banaszak, Billy Cannon, Gene Upshaw, Hewritt Dixon, Jim Otto, Fred Biletnikoff, etc
The Oilers were bowling pins that day. Raiders would smash them again in the '69 playoffs, scoring 50 points. Houston was tough, but they were no match.
i was never a houston oiler fan, but i do miss them. but as an OAKLAND Raider fan, i will never cheer for the las vegas raiders, this Raider Mystique was in its infancy, but would grow throughout the 70's. unfortunately al davis forgot about winning football and decided to play real estate mogul and move his team around. i am just old enough to remember the real Raiders, just such a shame that al davis was so wrong after the last Raiders' Super Bowl victory when he said the Raider greatness lay in the future. it was without a doubt in the past at that point. so sad.
I had season tickets with the Oilers that year and they were amazing how they managed to win with such a meager offense. They scored so often on takeaways and kick returns. But the Raiders were just too good. Head to head, Oakland was clearly the better team but without turnovers, Houston had no chance.
Great film! When this game started, the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys were just starting to thaw out after the classic Ice Bowl. What’s more is had the Cowboys won and the Raiders lost, we would’ve had Dallas vs. Houston in Super Bowl II. Two big Texas teams squaring off.
NFL Commisioner Pete Rozelle was at this game.Should have been in Green Bay instead. Both Texas teams lost their conference championchip games that Sunday.
why surprised? how was it not a modern stadium? it was 1968, what did you expect? they didn't get stolen tax money like in the new raider socialised stadium? cities back then actually owned the stadiums they paid for and made money instead of the private corporations of the chambers of commerce known as sports leagues making the money
I would think that the old way (the city owning the stadium and making a profit for the citizens) was a socialized system. The modern way of private corporations getting rich off of the fans and the taxpayers is not socialism in the way I understand it.
@@comradedobler3407 Right on. Perfect clarification. Too much marketing, advertising, and corporate encroachment (making everything their own). nowadays. Great book "What Money Can't Buy: The Moral Limits of the Marketplace" by political philosopher Michael Sandel, actually discusses how skyboxes at Metropolitan Stadium Vikings games was emblematic of the widening gap of the social classes and how it presented itself in sports. .

Much appreciated!
Amen!
You have done the football fan a real service. Great thanks!
@@comradedobler3407 You're wonderful!
Thise Oilers uniforms!Great look!
Sure beats today's "TV football"

@@osaji922 national fixed league
@@osaji922 sad isn't it the game once was salve for the pain of society but now nothing more than palette for commercials
imagine, quarterbacks were real football players at one time, allowed to be hit, and believe it or not, actually called their own plays.

Its' the music that gives this film its nuance
Gotta love the AFL !
I remember watching this game on tv, this real football.
I remember watching this game on television also I had just turned 50 and it was all in front of us
RIP Mr Darryl Lamonica.
The Raiders always had the Oilers number....
Thanks again Comrade for a great video. I had never seen this game. Just fantastic with Charlie Jones on the call.
Glad you enjoyed it
TY. This is great ! I feel like no time has passed. I remember the players and their attributes. I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

correct the 1969 houston oilers we’re kinda mediocre the 1967 houston oilers were kinda good
i was never a houston oiler fan, but i do miss them.

11 year old boy from Texas when I watched this game. I favored the Oilers but Lamonica with his cannon arm, was the star.
From Godzilla himself, I cannot thank you enough for this gem.
Love the song during the opening credits.

Could have happened in 1978 too
I too wished for an all Texas Super Bowl. I can’t believe I’m still waiting
Saw this on TV. I expected them to do better against the Packers in SB II
Great footage from a great game. The Raiders certainly were the better team from start to finish
This game took place same day as ice bowl at Lambeau
NFL Commisioner Pete Rozelle was at this game.Should have been in Green Bay instead. Both Texas teams lost their conference championchip games that Sunday.
I predict a Raider victory in The Super Bowl🙂!
These are great to bad the NFL shut down the NFL Films and you can no longer get these
Blocking below the waist was effective
Pete banazak was a tough runner
Won the East Division(Oilers) due to the Jets tie in their final regular season game.
Amazing that the city of Houston, has never made a sb, ( oilers, texans),
The kid at 24:57 was right.
LMAO!!!
"Modern Stadium!?"
Steven Zimmerman, Well, it was, to be fair.
