Nice review you really captured my feelings about the book. Since you mentioned the audiobook, It is read by the author and he really does an excellent job. I hope that this one wins.
What a difference between this review and the last one😂! I am so happy to hear such positive thoughts on this book, as I generally like Matar's books and have high hopes for this one.
I’m a bit more than halfway and loving it. I needed to pull back as you revealed something I didn’t know, so I’ll come back later. But this is really refreshingly told without pretentiousness and I feel like I’m learning much about Libya, where I’m almost done with This Strange Eventual History and I leaving with no real knowledge or feel for Algeria or even the tension with France.
Glad that you also enjoyed it. Maybe you also missed out the fact that the novel could be misleading since the author is from different political perspectives. Also, I want it to win the Booker Prize but I doubt it will since most of the previous winners kinda resemble the writing styles of Held by Anne Michaels, IMO.
The best book on the list (by far) in my opinion.
These reviews are secretly what gets me out of bed in the morning. From a total roast to a beautiful hymn, you never know what you gonna get 😂
I agree, I think this is one of those rare Booker listed books that I would recommend to most people
Exceptionally astute review. Well done, DK!
I'm truly and deeply hoping this will be the winner!
What a great review of a wonderful book!

Well said! ❤️🔥
I'd read this earlier in the year and was super pleased to see it on the longlist.
*puts on TBR immediately 😇

I think this was very well done BUT as time goes on I find it's not sticking with me which is interesting.
