      Your welcome. It’s going to be very similar removal of the steering might be different but that’s it. If it doesn’t have the clips like this one it will have two torx bolts on each side of the steering wheel

    • @jimrossabrena7955

      Usually that's the steering column bushing. They go bad and there's two different designs. It's hard to get to. Someone that knows what they're doing can do it in an hour. Maybe two

    Is it neccessary to switch off the main power to do this? I found that its very hard to turn the steering wheel if i turn off the main power.

      Yes, you must disconnect the battery before working on any part of the supplemental restraint system (SRS) to avoid accidental airbag deployment and personal injury. The service manual says to wait 30 seconds before starting to remove the airbag, but an old airbag and clock spring replacement procedure I found (from a recall on older Kia Rondos said to wait three minutes.
      Also make sure to record (write down or take cellphone pictures) of your radio station presets and Bluetooth phone pairings, because they may be lost after having the battery disconnected.

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  5 лет назад +1

      You need to first check the airbag codes. It could be a number for things causing the airbag light to be on. The clock spring is the most common on Kia's but fist check the codes

      @@fixitish I'm not getting any codes after clock spring replacement but the airbag light goes off briefly after start up and then pops right back on. BUT the horn works now! Any thoughts?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  5 лет назад +1

      KMack I’ve had this happen before. Do you have a scanner to clear the airbag codes? On some vehicles even though it doesn’t have codes you still need to go to clear codes to get the airbag light to go away. Try that first

    • @sharkinstx
      @sharkinstx 4 года назад

      Here's what the service manual says should be replaced/checked after a front airbag deployment:
      "When the front airbag(s) deployed after a collision, replace the following items.
      -SRSCM
      -Deployed airbag(s)
      -Seat belt pretensioner(s)
      -Anchor pretensioner(s)
      -Front impact sensors
      -SRS wiring harnesses
      -Inspect the clock spring for heat damage.
      If any damage found, replace the clock spring."

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  4 года назад

      William Blydenburgh did you check the code before you did this repair? Yes you’ll have to clear the codes any repair shop should be able to do it not just the dealer

    • @Wielki_Kocur
      @Wielki_Kocur 4 года назад +1

      If the light was on before replacement you have to reset it via diagnostic interface - airbag light won't go off by itself if triggered in all kind of vehicles.

    What does a clock spring do?

    • @chocos901021
      @chocos901021 4 года назад

      it tells the ecu at what what angle your wheels are at if they are straith or not .

    • @sharkinstx
      @sharkinstx 4 года назад +1

      @@chocos901021 No, that's not what it does - that's what the steering angle sensor does. The clock spring is a movable contact, basically a piece of tape with lines (circuits printed on it) wound like a mainspring in a mechanical clock, and the "tape" is contained in a housing. The tape winds and unwinds as the steering wheel is turned, so that the airbag module, steering wheel controls - audio, phone, cruise control, and even the heated steering wheel, if it's so equipped, and always connected to the wiring harness in the car.
      In Ye Olden Days, some cars used spring loaded pins in the steering wheel hub that made contact with copper rings in the column housing, so that the horn always had contact.

    So I have a few questions, so the airbag light only turns on when I turn my steering wheel. When it stays the still the light turns off. This is for a Kia Forte 2014, by the way. Is this an issue that can be fixed by replacing something, is it a easy fix?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  5 лет назад

      First step should be checking the codes but if it happens when you turn the steering wheel I say it probably will be the clock spring, it is very common to go bad on this car
