    I saw SAHB in the 70s. They were absolutely amazing. The evening began with the man himself walking across the stage in an overcoat and sneering at the audience and then walking off the other side. I thought he was some kind of caretaker. He was sizing us up... or at least that was what it looked like. Then that fantastic performance of Faithhealer. It really was the best gig I ever attended and I saw a fair old few bands back then.

      +Stewart Nicol as BILLY CONNOLLY I don't know if they wereTHE best live act in history, as SNasBC asserts, but they were pretty damn close, right up there with the best. Thanks to the airplay they received on WMMS in Cleveland in the mid-seventies I became a big fan. Unfortunately, I think there were parts of the country that never even heard of them...too bad. They DID put on one of the best live shows I'd ever seen - amazing, in fact.

    Their musicianship was superb, and Alex’s creativity was beyond amazing. Tear Gas meeting Alex Harvey was undoubtedly a match made in heaven. Such a shame that they never got the recognition that they truly deserved. Every single member of SAHB, is/was a world class musician in their own right. To combine this much talent into one unit, occurs only very rarely. An absolutely awesome band. RIP Alex, Hugh, and Ted. Long live Zal and Chris.

      I had tickets for SAHB, went to the gig, waited and waited and . . . . too drunk to perform, gig postponed, died before the rearranged date. BIGGEST regret of my life not seeing him/them live . . . People these days have no idea what real music, real musicians, real concerts were all about - I know that makes me sound like an old fart but I don't care, because I've seen all kinds of stuff over the years and 99% of it was better than 99% of what's being done today, because it was something in their DNA, not just something to get you rich and famous. Bowie ('73), Zappa twice, Springsteen, Ramones, Pink Floyd, Steel Pulse, The Tubes, XTC, Buzzcocks, REM and U2 (both '81), Clash many times, Captain Beefheart, Wizzard, Kraftwerk, Culture, Leonard Cohen, Kevin Ayers, Kevin Coyne, Toots & the Maytals, Specials, Squeeze, Ian Drury, Madness, Elvis Costello, Magazine, Massive Attack, Neil Young, Only Ones . . . the list goes on and on. Most of them were in the space of around 20 years - how many bands from the 21st century will you remember 20 years from now?

    Best live band ever. Alex invented the concept of putting on a show rather than just a group of musicians going through their reportoire. First time I saw them, they ended the concert with "Anthem". Half way through the song a Scottish pipe band entered the hall from the back slowly marching through the audience and playing. Never experienced anything like it, before or since.

    **** I saw them in 1974 at the Roxy Theatre in Northampton, PA. Tremendous! The Place Was Packed Early. About 15 minutes before the official start of the show the Faith Healer intro started and just kept playing (similar to the Jaws theme). The Audience was psyched. The Roxy is an old theatre with great/old curtains. After the show the band spray painted Rambo Rules on the curtains. Not a good idea. Alex did not live long, but he lived large. RIP!

    I first saw SAHB at Newcastle Mayfair early 70s when hardly anyone was there. Despite that, their performance was magical. I knew then, they were something special. A couple of years later, they came back & the place was rammed. I've seen all the great groups but SAHB is the best live act I've ever seen. Fantastic.

      nikos atsaves This flight tonight is their finest moment. Its brilliant. I love the production and play it at least once a month, but they were not in the same class as SAHB, live or vinyl output imo.. Alex hadn't much of a range, but he was a far more powerful vocalist than Dan. He was more of a screacher, and not much more range. Alex had onstage charisma, Dan is a decent frontman! I like Nazerath, but I love SAHB. SAHB were more eclectic and intelligent for my paper round money. That was enough for me..

      What about cleminson steve?not that agree with you!only 25%..!i love sahb too but only this song was played at the day wlile many naz songs stormed the radio.miss misery,witchdoctor woman,razamanaz ,hair of 5he dog,expect no mercy, to name a few.i love sahb myself,.alex was an extraordinary persona but i dont think that he had the impact on the music scene that you claim he had..naz were a genre of their own.

    • @stevemorrow3093
      @stevemorrow3093 8 лет назад

      nikos atsaves Its all opinion nikos, Alex was often cited as a working class hero as Punk exploded. I could see that irreverent attitude loud and clear, it got me into SAHB in the first place, and made perfect sense. I would say being acknowledged as an influence in arguably the most vibrant and ballsy movement ever, is quite a large impact and accolade. Don't you think?
      Nazerath were popular right enough but they were a straightforward rock act. Did Dan go into character and act out the song a couple of times or more every gig? Did Nazerath ever back the Who at the height of their powers and blow them off the stage just about every night? Zal was a front man in a sense back then too. It couldn't have been SAHB without Zal.
      There were dozens of Nazeraths back in the day. Every other long hair band was a Led Zep derivative, like Naz. Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Stone the Crows, even Hocus Pocus had the blues/Rock tag. So much as I like more Naz than I remembered, after reading your post, I cannot for the life of me think of the Genre that defines them alone. As I said, its all opinion anyway.

    Malevolently brilliant stuff. Always makes me laugh when people bang on about the punks (class of '76) being so revolutionary. SAHB was living proof that rock didn't need Lydon & co to make it nasty again; Alex was at it for years before (see also: Feelgoods, Stackwaddy, The Who, Pink Fairies, MC5...I could go on).

The Pistols. One Pefect Album. End. If you not got it yet you still have time..... if you didnt like the shenanigans blame the tabloids & McClaren but without that it wouldnt have been such a big 'new wave' movement and we needed it.. its called 'progress' rather than 'prog rock' maaaaaaaan....

    • @bestbutter
      @bestbutter 2 года назад +1

      @@babybison My point, which you've missed by a misspelt and pointlessly confrontational mile, is that Punk was sold by chancers like McLaren to a gullible market as something completely new. It was anything but. That's not to say no good music came out of Punk; the Pistols, The Clash, The Damned and quite a few others were shithot rock'n'roll bands. But a new broom sweeping clean the excesses of Prog? Bollocks. It was the natural adjustment that occurs from time to time, the ascendancy of a new pop-cultural tribe over another perceived to be on the ropes, keeping things fresh until the next one comes along. McLaren was in the right place at the right time to jump on a bandwagon and score some brownie points for public outrage, which ultimately meant nothing; what we all apparently "needed" was not within that schemer's gift; the mood of the time (pre-Thatcher WoD and the like) meant that no-nonsense, back-to-basics rock'n'roll would have grabbed the broader public and recordbuyers' imagination anyway. Meanwhile what might be termed 'Prog' licked its wounds and went underground for a few years. Fast-forward, and we have the likes of Radiohead, whether they care to admit it or not, channelling Pink Floyd c1973. But I digress, and I'll stand by my main point: that the artists I mentioned in my original post had beautifully nasty rock music - proto-Punk, if you like - wrapped up years before Rat Scabies added gobbing to the rock'n'roll playbook. I aim no value-judgement or adverse criticism at anyone but the likes of Talcy Malcy, and certainly not the better bands of the time. Maaaaaan...
