The industrial designer side of me loves this thing for being so striking but also quite understated. It also feels like it offers the right amount of tech for an EV. It feels modern and advanced, but not gimmicky or like it’s trying to change things that didn’t need changing in the first place.
I remember Polestar being the performance house of Volvo like AMG with Mercedes Benz. I could live with a Polestar. It's a car, not a giant electronic gizmo. Polestar is separated from Volvo but has the same practical no frills attitude. Comfort, relative comfort, and no show. You would not know it's a Polestar EV until you were told. This car would be great as a commuter car. I would want to have EV charging infrastructure built out more before going on long trips.
also the big difference between this car and a model 3 is that it actually got good interior and exterior for its cost compared to model 3 that feels cheaper than a 20k car
The polestar is one of my dream cars. The way it looks screams Volvo (in a great way) and it's a really well thought out car. I would 100% have this over a Tesla ANY day the one thing I'm not amazed by is the tablet slapped in the middle of the interior. I feel like it could be a bit more integrated with the dash.
I'm so glad you referenced those lifted Legacy sedans! I always thought those were so cool and the Polestar 2 evokes that vibe (in a good way). Love the styling inside and out on this one. There are so many cool Volvo details, too - I love how the turn signal click sounds like a finger snap!
Polestar feel like the spiritual successor to what SAAB could have been if things went a little differently for them. At one time the 900 turbo was so exciting that it was written into a Bond novel, but BMW really took over that mantle and SAAB had endless management troubles. The Polestar 2 really reminds me of a Saab 9-3 Aero, though - sedate and practical until you put your foot down. The "Architect" archetype was really covered by Top Gear as well :)
I had the chance to drive this vehicle, fully loaded with the Napa-leather seats. It has some great power, and it isn’t too punishing when you floor the accelerator (referring to the crazy g forces in Teslas and the Porsche Taycan), but it is undoubtably a powerful car. The main issue for me, with this car is that the car feels extremely cramped on the inside. I am 5’9, and I wasn’t quite able to fit comfortably in the back seats in terms of headroom and knee room. The rear seats are not adjustable and are extremely upright, so it is quite uncomfortable on long trips. The front wasn’t much better for space either (because of the tight footwell); only did I felt comfortable when I sat in the driver seat and adjusted everything to my liking. The car is just fairly cramped in terms of interior spacing, but it makes up for that with the amazing technology. The centre screen is very responsive, and the dash is well designed and easy to read. I drove it on mountain roads, and the car handles beautifully, and the steering has a good weight to it. It’s definitely a considerable alternative to the Tesla Model 3, as it offers far better build quality. It feels like a regular car, and it’s you don’t mind small interiors and just want a understated (while rare) but powerful car, the Polestar 2 is quite a good car.
I absolutely love this car. I have the same one same color, same specs but with the Napa leather. I really enjoyed watching your video. You are a great reviewer BTW. I LOVE the blinker sound!!!
I ordered a standard range Polestar 2 two days ago. Just going to drive it around the city. Looking forward to seeing the Polestar 3, might upgrade then!
I love the practically frameless side view mirrors compared to the mirrors that are sunken in. Sometimes I can't see my blindspot since part of the mirror is behind the frame
This is such a relaxing video that I have to imagine this could be a really relaxing car. And yet, you showed it can do the thing if you ask it to. That's my favorite kind of car. Mellow, but can turn it up if I want.
There's a lot to like here, I love the styling, interior looks and probably feels great. The issue here is range, it's just not good enough for the price, at least imo. There are also better ICE powered sports sedans out there for similar or lesser money. A wagon version might change my opinion though, specially considering it's a volvo. Really enjoyed the video so thanks for that, Tedward.
Yeah there's a few EU based EV companies selling super low range in the USA, not sure why they're bothering to pay the fees to sell here when they'll only get a handful of sales. Best example is the Mini Cooper EV with 100 miles of range... loool
The Performance pack and those Ohlins dampers make a huge difference in the Polestar 2. There's a very good reason the Performance pack is a $5000 option. I am strongly considering one of these for my first EV in the next year or so and if I do that then the Performance pack would be a must have option for me.
I may be looking at the Mazda 3 and Integra, but if I had the money I'd get one of these loaded. It's like a Scion tC grew up and was that one friend who nobody would expect much of but showed up to highschool reunion a successful entrepreneur with three businesses.

Glad you were able to test one out, even if it didn't end up being mine! (Nathan w/ the Beetle) I told you it's more fun than it might initially look. That's what I like. And they're going to make available a 50kW/67HP increase later this year for the US (it's already available elsewhere). The way that's mapped it will really wake the car up in that 50-80mph zone, where currently it feels a little sluggish.
Glad you made the observation-comment about 70mph being the “happy speed” where faster would “need more throttle than it should.” As a long time EV driver, I think this is what makes or breaks a good EV - the efficiency for some models shockingly drops above a certain speed. Air drag, lack of gearing, motor design, whatever. It’s the issue that kills range, making most EV people drive like grandmas and caters to the feminine aerodynamic styling of Tesla, which I hate. I love the exterior styling of the Polestar 2. Just waiting for the tweaks to improve efficiency, maybe with solid state battery in the next revision.
One of my friends who live in Lenox, Massachusetts bought the Polestar 1 like the one in this video, absolutely gorgeous car in a very understated way. I’d prefer the 2 door sports coupe, but it’s around $150,000. We took this car up to the summit of Mt. Greylock, and it was amazing. I drove on the way up, going as fast as I could without getting into an accident. It handled incredibly well. The only thing I was missing was having a stick shift to run through the gears, mostly because all my sports cars have a stick shift and Mt. Greylock is one of my favorite places to drive.
I do like Volvos effort, it seems like they have tried a different approach when it comes to their EV suspension tuning, I remember driving a typical XC60 and it feeling so floaty and boat like.
@@NOrlando952 Mate, I’m not sure which beat up XC60 you drove, but there’s not a single review out there that describes the current XC60 as floaty. I daily an M2 and my wife’s XC60 is pleasantly firm, never floaty.

I driven the P*2 myself and loved it. There's a ton of Volvo here and that reflects in the use of materials and build quality - better than the Mach-E and FAR superior to the dollar store feel of Model 3. I wanna see you drive a ct4v blackwing. My dad just put a deposit a one it should be here in 6 week. Pretty much maxed out with out the carbon fiber because they are on back order.
I’m curious about this too. If they were set to factory default, they’re towards the middle of their damping range. If I set up a test drive of one of these, I’m going to ask that they’re set full soft so I can see if Ohlins left a wide enough tuning window to make the car feel comfortable.
Would you have it over a Tesla? Also I misspoke at 6:11! The single motor version is fwd.
Neither. Because they lack an engine

Curious to see what those gold seatbelts look like after a year of use.
Can we just have a dedicated episode where we talk through each one of Larry David’s car choices on curb? It’s about LA so you better believe the car is a character
I hope you can review a lucid air
I I think it would be cool to see you drive the Ford F-150 lightning.
I believe Volvo/Polestar patented the frameless mirrors - that's why you don't see them anywhere else
“The Subaru nerds can let me know.” LOL
Would love your thoughts on the Ioniq 5 by comparison.
I wanna see you drive a ct4v blackwing. My dad just put a deposit a one it should be here in 6 week. Pretty much maxed out with out the carbon fiber because they are on back order.
I'm going to start saying "that's that weenie in the polestar" from now on lol
My job here is done
Hello hello!!!🙌
Goid review mate
That Polestar is just sooooo small. It's based on the xc40 and with a sportline hatchback...yeah...it's just so small.
call me nuts but i believe "boxy" design will make a comeback. like this car is way more boxy than a model 3 and it looks amazing
Already happening. Look at all the Hyundai concepts coming out
That little money yeah right that's a lot for a car sheesh
Polestar...the thinking man's Tesla.
How were the dampers adjusted on this particular one? Perhaps it could be made more compliant without sacrificing much body control.
I’m curious about this too. If they were set to factory default, they’re towards the middle of their damping range. If I set up a test drive of one of these, I’m going to ask that they’re set full soft so I can see if Ohlins left a wide enough tuning window to make the car feel comfortable.
That's the best looking EV out there in my opinion. The price is still way too high for normal folks, though.
This car is how I’d imagine a Saab 9-5 if they still made them
Awesome video! Reaally not a fan of that center console.
Looks a million times better than any Tesla.
Does the car have wifi ? Or is that a possible configuration?
is it a big car or an suv?
I really don't know where to draw the line
Not a fan of the electrification process so far... It does not electrify me at all!! BUT... must admit the Polestar is a good looking car👍👍
Goddamnit Tom why do you have to sell me cars I don't need in my life!!
mirrors look the best. small "bezels"
